Let's play a game

saZp1K.jpg

You are held captive at a concentration camp and your son tries to escape but gets caught. He is ordered to be hung but you must be the one to pull the chair, meaning you will live with the fact u killed him. If u don’t, your inmates children get hung as well as your son. What do you do?

What would you do and why?

Reply below with what you would do and why?

Guys please try to answer this with your emotions involved too, not with what you think is the most "logical" or "honourable" thing to do.

It's not possible for me to answer this question. I would never live under those circumstances. I would never allow anyone to take my freedom from me like that. I would have long ago led the rebellion, died fighting, or used that chair to beat the jerk to death that gave such an order. I would be the one hung for escaping, and I would kick the chair myself before making my family do it.

My primary goal throughout my entire life was to eradicate any possibility of anyone ever telling me what to do. I succeeded, so it's really hard for me to ever imagine such a scenario in my life. I hope to inspire others to be as happy and fulfilled as I am.

hmm....I can pull the chair and make many more sons... :D

Seriously, total resistance is the only viable option here even if it means getting killed in the process.  I would gladly give my life for any of my children.

I truly understand the saying, "I would die for you", the day I held my first child in my arms and the siblings that follow him.

I would never get captured and put into a camp. I'd die defending my home and family from evil. In America we are allowed to actually own guns so if somehow it went down this path the people would rise up and stop it. So yeah, I wouldn't be in that situation, and therefore cannot answer. Now if I lived in a country's let's say England where it gives the citizens no right to defend themselves from tyranny I might be fucked. But then again I hate children so I would never be in a situation actually have a kid to be hung since I'm never planning on having kids nor do I ever want them, which in all honesty is probably a good thing haha

Here is a real moral dilemma question: you are taken captive in your sleep. Uppon waking up you discover that there is another person taken captive with you. Instructions are read to you over a loud speaker. You have two choices:

1) you have to force feed the other captive parts of your body until he eats both your legs, or

2) if you refuse to comply 12 nuclear bombs will detonate in undisclosed cities

no one gave context to the country you're in, the world is so much bigger than america, so it's not valid you use that as a base for your argument

Nope. I could not do it. Morally it is the right thing to do, but I could not kill my child. But if you are putting emotions into the mix, this is not a morality test.

Having never been in that situation it is impossible to say.

I would like to think that I'd take a utilitarian approach and pull the chair and plot some elaborate revenge. Either way your kid dies... in the second scenario you'd likely end up dead too.

In the first scenario you have a chance for revenge and the sympathy of other inmates, you could also attempt to make it as quick as possible.

In the second scenario (lets assume you survive) the others would likely largely outcast you, and from the survivors of such camps, the best chance of survival is when others have you back.

If I were the son, knowing the situation, I'd rather be killed by my father than some stranger.

As much as some of us want to answer with "I'm going down in a fight refusing to be captured", sometimes luck or bad judgement gets the better of us. We all make mistakes and could find ourselves subdued and handcuffed before we know what is happening.

Seeming that we are held in a Concentration Camp, gives the notion that it is a Governmental Entity (high security, low chance of successful escape) running the show. Unless their is a Civil War raging or nearby freedom fighter groups, the prospect of me being rescued is very low. My feelings would be we are all going to die here eventually, whether by exhaustion, starvation, or execution. With that said, I honestly don't think I could pull the chair, so I voted not doing it. I won't take part in killing an innocent man, and if the guards choose to execute more innocents because I refused to become a murderer, than so be it. That is on the guards' conscience, not mine. Like I said, it seems like we will all die soon enough anyway given the guards harsh execution sentence over an escape attempt, so it won't be long before more executions are ordered. Therefore I am not going to die knowing I became a murderer in my last few days/weeks/months on Earth.

This is starting to remind me of the Conflicted Card Game. Some of the questions they present are incredibly thought provoking.

The idea of war is not to die for your country, it's to make the enemy die for his.

Fine...

I don't pull the chair because I don't want to be the one to kill my kid. And if my inmates kids die, well being dead is probably better than being in a concentration camp, plus they were most likely gonna die anyways so yeah that option. Plus they aren't my kids

i sentence Samus to 1 year labour camp for asking difficult questions.

I doubt a proper answer to that matter is possible.

Most pple wont make their choice until the very last moment, even they had some time prior to think ab that.

And then they will decide out of heart, not necessary rational.

Edit 1:

Theres a conflict in that case btween rational behaviour and emotional ability/strengh.

Obviously, the rational choise should be to kick the chair.

Due to reasons above, most pple wont be able to follow rational way, no matter of consequences.

Thats also the reason, economical theories and predictions doesnt fit well into real life.

Without that emotional component, that seems to have (sometimes) a stronger effect, the commercial business wld be dead.

So to answer that Q: no, i wld not kick the chair.

And i think 80%+ of population will also not do.

Edit 2:

There are 2 cotradictic effects:

A: to kick the chair is rational

B: not to kick the chair is also rational, cuz the loss of son and own guilt wld produce emotional distress.

It seems that effect B overtrumps A

---------

Im unable now to choose btwn Edit 1 and Edit 2.

And that causes me to feel emo discomfort.

As Samus is the causer, i demand $9mio compensation for personal suffering.

I can't say at the moment what I'd do given put into that situation.

My thought atm would be likely to challenge/fight a solider/guard and force them to shoot me.  If they kill my son afterwards, it wasn't at least me doing it and I played no part in the killing of them.  If they kill the other inmates children following my death, again I was not around to see it or be the reason they were dead.

The fact of the matter is your son is dead one way or the other.  Either you do it, or they instead do it for you while also killing the other inmates kids.  Either scenario, your son has no chance of living, especially given he was caught trying to escape.  It's not like if you don't do it, they will let your son live instead while killing the other inmates kids, he's dead no matter what.

Your chance of living if you don't do it is about as bleak.  Given if you don't do it, and the result is the hanging of the other inmates kids, those other inmates would either ostracized you, but more then likely, find a way to kill you themselves.  I know I personally would want to kill that person.  I don't think anyone/other inmates in that situation would blame anyone for trying to escape, as they all probably plotted a way or brainstormed a way, but the attitude changes when the actions of another in turn resulted in the killing of my kid who was not apart of it.

I would ask to take his place, then I would fight them with all my strength, I will protect my kids with my last breath, this isn't me be blaise, it truely what I would attempt to do.

For continued dedication and tenacity, as a warrior and as military officer. Wolfpacks has been fighting both in this war and the last with complete abandon, he has also been pounding the pavement as Commanding Officer making sure every enemy has been covered.Without members like you IRON would be less of an alliance. Well done.

he horse to talk

The story of teaching the horse to talk is one that is good to bear in mind in many situations. It runs like this.

Many years ago in a far away country a wise old teacher was in trouble with his King. The King sentenced the teacher to death, but listened to the teacher's appeal.

The teacher pleaded for the King to give him five years in which to teach the King's horse to talk. The King liked to own unusual things and a talking horse would certainly be unusual and after considerable thought said "yes".

A friend of the teacher said to the teacher "Why did you make such a rash promise? You know no one has ever taught a horse to talk." The teacher said in reply: "Sometime before the end of five years:

1. The King might change his mind and pardon me.

2. The King might forget that he sentenced me to death.

3. The King might die.

4. I might die.

5. I might teach the horse to talk.

In any event, I gain five years."

I would appeal with a made up story to reach the guard's avarice. That my son's escape was to go find our families hidden great buried wealth and buy time where things might change.
