How incredibly sad. They're saying the building may be a complete loss.

Possibly/Probably stemming from renovations currently underway on the roof/midsection of the cathedral. With that in mind, the possibility of the church being somewhat vacant in terms of moveable art is there, althou no word on that for the moment.
Most of the roof and the small aft tower have collapsed

Well shit. Saw this today, and was going to post a topic when I got home. Even though this is still unfolding, it's obvious that the damage is catastrophic. I always wanted to visit Paris, but never actually got there, now it's uncertain that I'll ever get to see this world-famous landmark.

Drone footage from approx 1h ago. Word has it that the 2 iconic towers in the front have been cleared of fire (but have received damage).

Devastating. As a history buff, I'm lost for words.

I was there in December. Horrible building, full of physical and spiritual darkness. Glad it's gone.

Interesting take.
Well, it seems that thankfully the main structure remained intact, and the building can be rebuilt in a few years. Damage to the interior is still pretty bad.
Think we can even "up" that positivity. I have seen several pictures from inside and we should thank fake ceilings
Basically, the wooden roof (still a masterpiece on itself) is gone, but the internal masonry and stone ceiling is mostly there (bar some collapses one being the tower in the center) and thus internally it is more heat and water damage then direct fire damage. Biggest give-away was when the first picture showed untouched candles on both the walls and near the altar, something you shouldn't expect with a raging fire. Also the various christian treasures were evacuated prior and during the raging fire itself. Also the various leadlight windows look intact.
Now it is firstly time to support the superstructure, find weak points and clear any dangling scaffolding still present.

Many big companies and governments are coming forward to donate for the renovations, apparently in 2 days time they have raised together over 700 million euros and the sum is still rising
Haven't been to Notre Dame or France, either way can sympathize with the locals. Utterly terrifying to see a symbol of your nation engulfed in flames.
