And no crap about dinosaur eggs being first. We're talking chicken eggs here.

Evolution happens between generations, in the differences between the parents and the offspring. Regardless of at which point the chicken was not quite a chicken, at some point it was almost a chicken and it laid an egg from which hatched a chicken, making it a chicken egg.

Its the chicken.
The way I look at it, God made the Chicken, and then the Chicken laid the egg. No need to think to hard about this one.

I've always gone with the egg.
Because what is the first chicken would be dependant on when we evolutionarily classify it as a chicken, therefore that particular individual came from the first chicken egg. But that also means the first chicken egg was laid by a non-chicken. *mindblown*

Whether theist or not, you have ot admit evolution does exist. All things evolve in some ways. New creatures are appearing from old ones all the time.
So, I tend to think the Turtwig is correct in the thinking the first chicken egg had to come from a nonchicken, so I'd have to say the egg came first.

if we speak purely genetical, the first was a chicken. For a chicken can lay a chicken egg but an animal can't lay a chicken egg as its genetics aren't that of a chicken. IN the egg is a chicken, but the egg itself is made by the hen and not the seed within.
metaphorically its the egg, as the genetic change needed to produce a "chicken" happens at the fertalization of the egg itself, so a to say that the egg produced gives sanctuary to a chicken but the egg itself isn't.
With language again the chicken is first, as a chicken egg can only come from a chicken. cause and effect play here. Claiming an egg to be a chicken egg but not comming from a chicken will make any language teacher cringe.
The biggest thing is offcourse, what does one classify as a chicken and what as a chicken egg, egg's were present way before chickens were. As such the question "chicken or egg?" has the obvious "egg" answer, but "chicken or chicken egg?" has "chicken" as answer.

The real question is which tastes better: a groundbound bug-eater or its menstruation?
