I've created a monster...

About a month ago, I was talking about setting up an aquarium.  My husband was dead set against it.  He didn't want them, didn't like them, and wanted nothing to do with them.

I happen to like aquariums, I find watching the fish relaxing. So, I went out and bought one.

Yeah, I heard about that.  I got in a bit of trouble over that purchase.

Five days later I bought the fish.

When I got them in the tank, he spent an hour and a half watching them. He looked at me and said, "I can't believe they are making me this happy."

Side note, my husband is autistic.

He went ahead and named them, Sisyphus, Meredith, Tag, Current, and Tony.  Current and Tony have since met with the great toilet bowl in the sky.

Flash forward to, well, right now.

I have no idea how much he's spent.  Our rec room looks like a science lab.  I've been sent out to buy an ever increasing amount of fish related stuff. 

Hell, I found out recently there is such a thing as a fish veterinarian. 

Yes, a vet for fish.

No, I'm not making this up. Just search "fish vets" on Google.

Never knew that was a thing.

Now, he want's to go across town to buy a 55 Galleon tank...with all of the special furniture, pumps, and Lord knows what else.

You know what?  F**k it.  If that's what he wants.  If that will make him happy.  Then I'll do it.  I'm glad that he's gotten this involved.  It gets him off the computer and the cell phone, and it stimulates him intellectually.

Then I'll happily pay the price.

2) Naming sense of the fish, I have questions, many questions >_>

I'll have mine blackened with lemon.

All teenagers should keep fish... they'll never afford drugs.

Half hour drive across the city., for fin rot medicine.  One hour and 92 G**D**M dollars later....

On a side note, I saw the aquarium he wants and the whole set up is affordable.

@ Dontavian, he knows about them...D**M you Reddit.  He's been quite active on Reddit asking piles of questions.  Like I said, I really don't mind.  He's engaged intellectually and is physically active taking care of them.  It's better than sitting on a computer playing games all day, or fooling around with his phone.

I once had a gold-fish as a child whom we befittingly named Jaws, because he ate all the other gold-fish.

with the combo of "Sisyphus, Meredith, Tag, Current, and Tony", I was wondering where the names come from. No theme or logic comes to my mind to tie them together. You got greek, old english, random item, physical unit and random Soprano aficionado.

with the combo of "Sisyphus, Meredith, Tag, Current, and Tony", I was wondering where the names come from. No theme or logic comes to my mind to tie them together. You got greek, old english, random item, physical unit and random Soprano aficionado.

Yes, I asked him for explanations.

Sisyphus: because he likes to swim against the current of the pump.

Meredith: Your guess is as good as mine.  He did tell me, but I'm hard of hearing, and didn't catch it.

Tag: Likes to chase the other fish

Current: He was black and silver, currents are black.  I don't know, like I said, I'm hard of hearing, I think I might have misheard him there.

Tony: not the Sopranos.  Think Tony "Scarface" Montana.  Love that movie.  He was silver.

Postscript: Well I went and did it.  After my Coy (Company), Breakfast, I drove across Edmonton to Big Al's.  Bought the 55 Gallon tank he wanted plus a stand.  Just spent the last four hours putting the thing together.

I wanted to surprise him on Christmas Morning with it, but no one I know could store it. 

So when I got back home, I asked him to come and help me get something out of the car.

When he saw the tank, he stood there in the back garden and cried.  It took a while before he could help me bring it all in.

He's already talking about the fish he wants to buy.

I'll have to post some pics, when he gets it set up.

Like I said before, Hang the expense.  It made the man I love happy. That matters more to me.

Back across town this afternoon.  Yep, you guessed it...Big Al's.  Ended up getting some air stones, a pump, and bunch of other aquarium related stuff.  

Getting a little bit scared now.

He's done one hell of a job.  Set up an air curtain, testing the water, and planted the plants.

He's enjoying it.  Like I said, as soon as I can figure it out, I'll post some pics. 

It's turned into a labour of love.  I'm glad of it. 

He's after telling me this is the best December he's had in a long time. 

He's engaged, he's happy. that's the least I can do for the man I love.

My husband has decided to set up  hydroponics. We are currently growing lettuce, strawberries, and Forget-Me-Nots. The flowers are for me. I like flowers.
