Okay.

A very dear friend of mine sent me an iTunes card.  Don't get me wrong, I'm thankful.  He's been my best buddy for nearly 40 years.  He and his family had stood with me through thick and thin.  I love him ,in a platonic sense.

That being said.  I don't have latest piece of iJunk made by crApple.  Hell, I don't even have a cell phone.  I have a near psychopathic hatred of those things.  The last one I owned, I put that thing in the microwave.  Yes, the nuker.   Not because I fell for some prank online, I wanted to watch that thing fry.

I wanted to watch it die.

I've crushed one under my foot.

I've thrown one out the the window of my car as I've been driving down the TCH at 100 km/h.

I've pounded one into to dust with a sledge hammer.

Have I told you how much I hate those goddamn things.

No, I'm not joking.

So I got an iTunes card.  I'll never use the thing.

Is there a charity I can give it to?

Is there someone here who would like it?

Happy Saturnalia my friends.  Wishing you and yours all the best.

You can sell it on ebay, and there are a few gift card accepting charities but I dont know if they would want an itunes card or if they are legit.

With that said you don't need apple anything to use it, you can use it to buy a movie or what have you. You could also give it to someone you don't know well as a random act of kindness, like your favorite server at a restaurant.

I hate cell phones. I despise Facebook, even though my wife is hopelessly hooked. Twitter is nothing more than Instant Messenger on overkill. The internet is the greatest invention of our time, and it has super enhanced my life in many ways, but anything that brings so much good to the world can be twisted to everything bad in the same degree. Unfettered technology, with no boundaries or ethical standards, will continue to corrupt our youth until they can no longer function in the real world.

That being said... you don't need an Apple device to use iTunes. I don't use iTunes myself. I still buy CD's and Blu-ray if I want to spend money on music or movies. Merry Christmas my friend.

I've sold gift cards on ebay.  TBH, never got the point of any gift cards, be it to a store or a visa gift card.  Either you only have option to spend at one store, or you use most of your visa gift card but just a dollar or a few cents, and never use it all and sits in your wallet.

Be careful with selling over ebay though.  There are people who buy them then spend the money and then request a brefund that there was never any money on the card when they got it.  And ebay usually sides with buyer.

Honestly I’m not a fan of gift cards in general. If a $20 gift card cost $20, why not just give that person $20 cash and let them choose what they want to spend it on. Rather than limiting it to one store.

I buy CDs. Sometimes I rip them, but my car has a CD player and I still have a stereo with a receiver, turntable, CD player, etc, which are older than you. it’s kind of wasteful because I buy individual ITunes, etc. but then want the cd if I like it enough.

I'm jealous... I lost all my vinyl in the early 90's from theft... switched everything over to CD. I still have tons of cassette tapes, but nothing to play them on, and they're so old they would probably fail anyway. Another lost art from the internet. It destroyed the music business... along with shopping malls, travel agents, and newspapers. I used to spend hours in Tower Records. Next to go will be movie theaters. I have SiriusXM now, and that's good enough for our road trips. :)

I used to be a radio DJ, both in college and professionally. Music was my life (still is somewhat). My husband wants me to get rid of my vinyl, but NOPE!! not gonna happen, wouldn’t be prudent. So we have several hundred albums, several hundred CDs, and thousands of digital items. I refuse to pay for radio, so when I drive I listen to FM, hook up to Pandora via Bluetooth on my phone, or play CDs. I have a zillion cassettes somewhere buried in my basement. IMO, nothing sounds better than vinyl.

Music: People just stream music now, there's still money in it.

Shopping mall: All of the females in my life prefer going to the mall and spending HOURS UPON HOURS trying on things they most likely don't end up buying, so it still has its place

Travel agents: true.. but I know my mum still prefers to go to her travel agent than buy tickets online

Newspapers: come over to London some day and try the London underground? loooool at every station, there's people in newspaper kiosks trying to shove their media up your nose

You are correct. I felt the same way about paying for radio. We then got a free year when we bought a new car, and never let it go.

Music: People just stream music now, there's still money in it.

You can't possibly understand. No one can understand if they didn't read Circus and Creem magazines looking for next releases and tours. No one can understand that didn't break the plastic wrap off Dark Side of the Moon, Houses of the Holy, Goodbye Yellow Brick Road, or Billion Dollar Babies, and lay it down on a turntable for the first time. There was a magical time for music, and it's long dead. We can still hear the distant sounds, but everything is but a moon cast shadow compared to the original years of the masters. I have done the best I can to show my kids what it was like, but it's never good enough.

I hope you all had a wonderful Christmas season.

Thanks for all the suggestions.

The only one I could come up with was to pay off my overdue taxes that Officer John Parker (badge number 6144), from the CRA keeps calling here about.  Really, I didn't know the Exchequer accepted iTunes gift cards!  LOL.

I don't stream music myself, never saw the point of it.  You can't save the song you want, or I've never been able to figure it out.  Never mind the fact that I don't have unlimited internet, so I have to watch my bandwidth.  If I go over, it gets expensive.

I used to sell things on E-Bay, made some decent money at it.  However, I stopped because  I was badly burned.  Never mind that now they take 10% of your sale.

I missed vinyl personally, now a buddy of mine is an audiophile and swears its the best format.  My dad has a turntable, and still listens to all of his records from the 60s, 70s, and 80s.  I can remember going into town with my parents and going to Sam the Record Man and Fred's Records, with my dad.

I did have a Fisher Price record player.

I still remember my dad bought a Sony Walkman in the very early 80's.  I think I was in grade one.  My mom got so angry with him, because he paid over $200.00 for it.

I grew up with tapes.  When I graduated grade four, my graduation present was a Ghetto Blaster (well, that's what it was called!).

The first tape I bought was 'The Lonesome Jubilee", by John Cougar Mellencamp.

A few months ago, I found a stereo with a tape deck at work.  They we getting rid of it, and it magically made its way into the trunk of my car.  Now I'm able to listen to all of my old tapes, including the mixed ones, I made in my youth.

Presently, I have a SiriusXM radio, but rarely use it.  Only when I venture beyond the Montreal area.  Hard to find a English language radio station that plays rock.  Mostly what I can find is a station playing what I call 50 varieties of Kesha.  I can't go pop music.  They play the same 20 'songs' over and over again for three weeks.  Then they become 'Classic Hits'.  That is the special hell of Virgin Radio, which I was forced to listen to by the youngster at work...until the radio mysteriously disappeared.  No, I didn't have anything to do with it...I think the Warrant did.   My car stereo is locked onto CHOM 97.7, all the best rock from the 70's to the present.
