September 28, 201214 yr Author comment_538438 My friend made lamb bacon not very long ago and it was amazing. September 28, 201214 yr comment_538440 I have had beef bacon in Islamic countries. Bacon actually doesn't come from most pigs. You have to make them especially overweight in order to get them to produce bacon. I would also like to state that none of the pictures above are of bacon. They are of the nasty fatty fake so called "streaky" bacon. This is true baconhttp://www.yorkesofdundee.co.uk/wp-content/uploads/2012/06/dry-cured-back-bacon.jpg Report

September 28, 201214 yr comment_538477 I obviosly prefer real bacon, but sometimes streaky isn't too bad! Report
September 29, 201214 yr Author comment_538483 I like both. Bacon is bacon and fat is flavor. Fancy pants restaurants take thick cuts of the streaky bacon and use the original pork belly name. It's all bacon and it's all good. Roast pork belly. The fat melts in your mouth, it is sooo good. Also, a heart attack waiting to happen. http://i122.photobucket.com/albums/o255/nathans74/images-1.jpg Report

September 29, 201214 yr comment_538507 Also, my fridge is never without at least 1 pack of bacon in it. If i use said pack, i go to the store that same day or the next and replenish my stock. Report
September 29, 201214 yr comment_538511 Isn't that char siu?No It is plain strait forward Bacon, sometimes referred to as back bacon. It is from the the same part of the pig as a pork chop (in fact it is essentially a thin sliced chop) rather than the belly of the pig. It has much less fat so doesn't just turn to water when cooked. September 29, 201214 yr comment_538572 No reason as far as I can tell! A good butcher should be willing to give you anything (wthin reason). and if it's an unusual cut it'll probably be cheap. Report
September 29, 201214 yr comment_538582 I obviosly prefer real bacon, but sometimes streaky isn't too bad! Streaky bacon is superior to back and side bacon when it's the good sort. Unfortunately it's almost impossible to find good streaky bacon. Most specimens have way to much fat, cut way to thin, plumped with water and "smoked" in the sense they once were in the same room as a guy who knew another guy who had a smoker once... we swear. People then have a habit of cooking it down to the point it's less meat and more pork flavored sawdust and salt and well. Edited September 29, 201214 yr by Rand0m her0 Report
September 30, 201214 yr Author comment_538586 Beef Bacon. There appears to be several brands available. http://i122.photobucket.com/albums/o255/nathans74/images-2.jpg I agree with RH about the overcooked bacon. Sawdust is a great descriptor. In fact, poultry and some fishes are the only meats that should really be "well done". Report
