[Riptide]

At age 7 when I was living in South East Asia (Thailand), I encountered one of my favorite types of animals at the time - a nice, big black snake, sunning itself in our yard so I decided to investigate.

Doing what snakes are prone to do when escape is not possible and an inquisitive child is trying to pick it up, it bit me on my thumb. I don't really have a clear memory of what happened, but I'm told that, somehow, as it bit me, I grabbed a hold of it, so it couldn't just let go and get away.

So, I'm running around the house and back yard, screaming bloody-murder, flailing my arm with a good-sized snake attached to it, whipping through the air. My mother, apparently, crumpled as she saw it. My dad, un-phased, grabbed me in one arm and grabbed the snake behind its head with the other.

He left me sitting in the yard, crying, screaming and bleeding, while he took the snake to meet its maker.

Note: Luckily, it was a non-poisoneous snake, though it was an adult that was around 2 feet long and about 1 inches thick, more than enough to terrify my mother as it was attached to her screaming 7-year-old (Go ahead bring on the jokes.)

FOCUS: What funny injuries did you incur as a child? Don't have to be with animal...can be about any kind of injury...or mishap...

Oh man I was and still kind of am that kind that tends to have all sorts of bruises, scratches etc. Some of the things that I can still remember, mainly because I still have scares from them:P When I was about 7 I crashed and scrapped my left leg against a stone pavement leaving a flesh wound. When I was 9 during football on a not football area, I landed on a pointy rock with my left knee which still leaves a scare. When I was 13 I rammed a friend of mine while we were on our way to school on our bikes and landed on that same where my previous injury from when I was 7 was located. I was actually luckily because this time the wound healed way better then the last time. Most recently when I was 17 I fell of a mountain leaving a scare on my right side, because it couldn't be stitched anymore.

I was probably around 8 or 9 at my friends house staying the night.  They were renovating the upstairs and we weren't allowed up because of all the dangerous things left lying around.  Needless to say we were chasing each other around and i had a large nail (brand new not rusted) stab a few inches into my foot and stopped me dead in my tracks making me land on my face.

When I was 4 I was in Catholic Pre-School and it was playtime. I was playing with some milk crates that kids usually stacked up on top of each other to build stuff (Don't know why there were there exactly). One of the crates was broken and the edge was sharpened to a point. I swung the crate around and it went right through my calf on my right leg. It left a hole in my leg and I was rushed to the state children's hospital where I was given bubble gum sleeping gas (?) and got stiches on my leg. To this day, there is a vertical scar about an inch and a half long and 1/2 inch wide where i can't feel me touch it and I grow no hair there.

 

Note: This story was put together through vague memories and what I was told by my parents.

Cutting my wrist and permanently severing the nerves in my left hand whilst climbing down a cliff to get to a glowstick that was at the bottom.

Was playing soccer and went to dive to get the ball since i was the goalie and the striker missed the ball and kicked me full strength in the eye splitting my eyelid open.. Sad thing is he was down crying and whinging longer than i was.. I wanted to keep playing and ended up arguing with the ref to let me.. Untill i saw blood start dripping out at a fast past

To start off...ugh, snakes!  Hate them.

 

One time as a kid (was like 7), I found this sharp knife, and was intrigued with shaving off the bark of little branches (widdiling).  Well, I was holding the stick in not the best way and the knife slipped off he stick, and instead, took about a one inch chunk out of my left thumb all the way to the bone.  Still have a nice scar today.

 

Not me, but my cousin lost his top joint in his finger, because his brother though it was a good idea to stick it into a excerise bike (the fan part in the front), while someone was on it using it.  Now we joke with him saying instead of a high five, "give me a 4 1/2."

 

I thought it would be funny, on my birthday I got this new remote control car, and decided to put it on top my sisters head.  Needless to say, she had long hair and it instantly wrapped up a large chunk of her hair around the tire axel. My new remote control car was soon destroyed to get her hair out.

 

When I was 5, I grabbed a pair of scissors, and decided to go to a trash can, and start cutting my hair...I had to get a buzz cut, as there was no fixing my hair cutting

 

My mother when i was younger was heating up leftover gravy in the microwave.  As she was taking out the boiling hot gravy, she stumbled and pour it down over my head as I was sitting at the dinner table.

 

I have one other story...but it still is gruesome to me...I'll maybe share later

A few from being rather older. 

 

Camping with some scouts and some sausages in a frying pan catch fire. We take it off the fire and leave it on a tree stump because there is nothing for it to set fire to and we might as well let it burn out. An older guy sees it, panics, grabs a bucket and empties it over it. I will say this for him. It really did clean out the pan well. 

This next one was last year. Being bored and having lots of matches I decided to see what would happen if all the match heads were at the same end and caught fire at once. I was vaguely sensible and did this in the courtyard, and used another match to set a small fuse. What I did not anticipate was the 4 foot jet of fire that resulted. What was kind of interesting about that was that after the initial explosion the rest of the box and matches didn't even get singed.
