So, I recently thought I'd dust off New Vegas and play through it again with fresh mods. Since it's been a while (and seeing as it's a Bethesda game), I thought the best course of action would be to just start afresh and reinstall the whole thing.

 

So far so good, right? Wrong!

 

After the game downloads, I see that I'm missing the DLCs Lonesome Road, Courier's Stash and Gun Runners' Arsenal. They're also gone without a trace from the Steam Account History. Since I've purchased this crap in friggin 2011, the only proof I still have that I ever owned them are the related achievements from here:

I filed a ticket with Steam, and eagerly await their answer.

 

Did anything similar ever happen to you guys? How did you solve it?

Can't say i've ever had this happen, though i've never played that particular game.

Nope, never lost anything, but are those DLC's free, or did you have to pay?  If you paid do you have a payment history on the credit card (or whatever) to at least prove you did make a purchase from them around that date?

I payed, but the bank does not keep the records for more than a year (already checked that).

I suspect they will have records going back further than a year, but they would charge you to get access to them and provide you with a copy.  And being a bank, they will probably charge you more than the cost of re-buying  the DLC's.

Hate to state the obvious but have you tried validating the game cache?

I did, to no avail. But the problem isn't with the game anyway, it's with the steam account, as these particular purchases don't even show up there.

 

I have a sneaking suspicion that it has to do with the clusterfuck of the regional Steam update that happened at one point, but we'll see once they get back to me.

Not stream related but I lost guild wars account. They old friggin website had a broken recovery system, gl!

So, after an incredibly long and frustrating call to my bank, here's what PROBABLY happened:

 

1, I made the purchase, and downloaded the DLCs immediately

2, The Steam update happened shortly after which was seriously screwed up in my region. Several Bethesda games were unavailable for weeks/months (hell, RAGE is still unavailable on Steam)

3, Though the sum was put aside by the bank, but Steam never requested it to be transferred (probably because of the update chaos).

4, The transaction never actually happened and was eventually removed from the account history

5, Meanwhile, I've been happily playing the installed DLCs

 

You know the rest. While I didn't suffer financial damage, I wasted way too much time figuring out this shit.

Transactions via credit cards and etc can take a while to clear. Rather than making you wait, Steam just gives you the benefit of the doubt and gives you access to your purchase. The transaction failing to clear is pretty much the only reason I've ever seen Steam pull something from someones account. Chances are you got an email about that a couple years back once they realized the snafu.

The thing is, I have a Debit card not a Credit card, so anything I buy MUST be covered, otherwise I can't even place the order. It seems the funds were allocated to the purchase from the bank's side, but Steam did not actually place a request for them (basically, they didn't show up for their money). After years of purchasing stuff online, this is the first time this happened to me.

 

+ Add to the fact that I wasn't sure whether I used my wife's card or mine in this particular instance and you've got a good several minutes of calls to my bank.

If it's electronic it still takes a bit of time to clear, even if only 30 minutes or so. Steam places a hold on your account to check if it has enough money and to make sure it will still have that money when it comes time to process the transaction. I've seen it happen a few times with pre-paid cards, every so often mastercard will accept the transaction before they've authorized the card on their end, which means the retailer doesn't actually get their money and you have a slightly grouchy retailer.

Well, I guess that's that then, though I didn't know it can be an issue with a debit card. Either way, an unfortunate situation, I guess I'll just buy the stuff again (or as it turns out, the first time).

Never had anything like that happen. Although I have had some issues with Steam becoming unresponsive during big sales (Summer, Christmas). I'll buy something and it won't appear in my library. I try to refresh things a couple times and then Steam basically crashes. So I'll come back a few hours later or the next day and its always there. Hasn't happened in awhile since they probably improved their servers.
