I've been watching The Walking Dead since Season 1.  Who else watches this show? Start with replying the approximate time you started watching it, if not from the beginning. How did you feel about the Finale tonight? What are you going to do till February?

Spoiler

The show is incredibly bleak/morbid.  The underlying message to the show seems to be that humanity becomes monstrous without "civilization" or that "civilization" was keeping humanity's evil streak in check.  It's not a message I agree with.  Somehow the zombies make people become heartless sociopaths with no empathy, and the ones who do have it are mercilessly punished on the show (the message being you can't have empathy if you want to survive).  Almost always the choices are win/lose, and at the expense of someone else.  The hypocrisy of the message is obvious when the Governor requires his band to cooperate (win/win) in order to prevail over Rick's group (win/lose).  The Governor's group, having themselves performed cooperatively, reject cooperation when the Governor switches gears and says cooperation wouldn't work between the groups, even though it worked fine for the Governor's group up to that point.

I think it would be harder to find someone that doesn't watch The Walking Dead than to ask if anyone else watches the show.

It's a staple on our DVR and we never miss an episode.

A co-worker/friend of my wife told her about how great the show is and she promptly came home and made me start watching.

We started midway through the first season using On Demand to get caught up, and hooked ever since.

I had a hard time thinking a never ending zombie movie could be any good.

But the more I watched it, the more I see that the zombies are only a side show... a constant threat that must always be checked.

The show is about survival and testing the limits of humanity to stay alive.

It's a brilliant plot and the most utterly violent show I have ever seen on TV.

As for the mid-season finale... when I saw Hershel smile... I knew he was a goner. It was just set up that way.

The little girl going down at the red dirt pile, I did not expect.

I totally expected Carol to come in and save lives... never happened.

I knew Michonne would get the Guvnah... just thought she would say, "I told you I'd kill you"... just to rub it in.

I wonder how many of the new group will end up as new regulars.

And I knew they had to lose the prison sometime... have to keep the show moving or it will get redundant.

Edit: I forgot to say what I will do until February. In January I will be checking out a couple new shows.

Black Sails on Starz and True Detective on HBO... also another staple is Justified on FX.

The Following will coming back too but I'm confused on how they will continue that show and hold my attention.

I was happy with the last few episodes this season when they brought back in the Governor..up to that point i was getting really bored of it.

It became...o another day at the jail..someone dies.  Rick still being a pussy

Then like 3 episodes about basically the same shit happening..people going for supplies, 1 dying....people getting ill dying...in an enclosed area...more people die from the now turned zombie.  It was stupid, nothing exciting, nothing that great, mostly just ridiculous gory scenes of people getting eaten or shot/stabbed in the head.

Then it got interesting, and at least exciting.  The whole sickness/flu was a good new thing to introduce into the story, but felt it flopped, and really wasn't that exciting or edge of your seat...mostly like i said, an excuse to show gory scenes.

I love the show..but tbh..it's become repetitive to me...and I don't know how they will keep it going but it needs to be something.  I think people leaving or past people who left(not dead)..being reintroduced by somehow people running into each other would help...but dunno...to me it's become another episode of not much going on besides 1 or two people getting bit.  Maybe meeting someone who is like a chemist who is working on a cure, and somehow the cure makes things worse...idh...i am not a show producer.  Think they could of drawn the finale event a big longer, instead of making it so quick and over...maybe some build up before the sudden attack..idk.

Obviously now the story is going to be people trying to find people who escaped the jail, as well as rick and his son trying to find the baby (probably taken from the girl who finished off the Governor).  They left it where there was no blood in the baby seat...so obviously the kid probably was taken.  The asian guy is gonna knock up his girl, get married, then one of them will die.

OMG! Im laughing so hard my stomach hurts...

I watched it several times over to see what I could catch.

The girls that were carrying the baby in a car seat were the ones that saved Tyreese from certain death.

After that they turned around and went back as Tyreese was yelling at them that they were going the wrong way.

I think the kids have the baby. It's just going to be chaotic trying to get the group back together.

The last time they had to split up Andrea ended up with Michonne so it may take time... who knows?

Yea...I think that will be how it starts out...there was so many groups that split up different ways...from Rick and Carl, the little girls, the people on the bus that included Glen, Daryl Maggie group, etc.  Did they ever show Maggie's sister again after she got off the bus?  I forget.  But yea. all ran/drove different ways, so I imagine some will find each other, and then the show will also show the others and them finding new people on the search to find everyone else.

My bet, somehow Daryl and Carol will find each other (since they were always close), or Rick and Carol.  I imagine it will end up with people from the Jail fighting against each other with new groups they get into.  Who knows...but obviously I think the early episodes when the show returns will be documenting all the different groups that got split up fleeing the jail, and what they do after

Beth is with Daryl

Maggie is with Sasha and Bob

Tyreese is with the kids and the baby... I believe

Rick and Carl are maybe with Michonne, and possibly the Govnah ex that capped him and the other girl that didn't want to fight.

Everyone else that survived is on the bus.

Every gun that is made, every warship launched, every rocket fired signifies in the final sense, a theft from those who hunger and are not fed, those who are cold and are not clothed. This world in arms is not spending money alone. It is spending the sweat of its laborers, the genius of its scientists, the hopes of its children. This is not a way of life at all in any true sense. Under the clouds of war, it is humanity hanging on a cross of iron.

I dissagree that the comics are better than the show, but then I didnt read the comics until about half way thru season 2 or so.  I think the character development in the show is much better, as well as the writing in general.   And yes the comics are a lot more gruesome than the show, but the comics are pretty rediculous, I mean currently one leader has a pet tiger, and the main badguy talks to his bat.  Carl has half his face blown off and Rick has been missing a hand for like 75 issues.

Guess I need to read the comics....that's quite gruesome.  I use to have some Walking Dead comics, but I sell comics online...and those things went quick

Lots of good character-focused episodes in the latter half of this season. Last night's episode was disturbing, but current.

I myself thought it was over the top. Hard enough to suspend disbelief enough to buy into a zombie apocalypse, and then be fed a line that a girl has fooled everyone that she wasn't batshit nuts until she filets her own sister for no reason. I really thought it was the worst episode to date. Looking forward to it getting back on track. Rick and Daryl make the show right now, and it hurts anytime they are absent.

Ehh...it wasn't that unbelievable..i mean the show and idea around the show is far fetched as it is, so nothing really is surprising.  The idea a girl can lose her mind in the scenerio of living in such a world is not really over the top.  I knew something was going to happen, but I expected it was going to be where the girl's sister gets bit due to the other girl thinking they're real people, or the girl who was playing with the zombies and feeding them would get bit and killed.  At the end, i didn't see the baby being carried, i had to look it up, but supposedly on the "talking dead" they explained she was on Tyrese's back...but was hard to tell.  At first I replayed the last part and was like, did the baby die somehow or what.

TBH...most of what has happened is exactly how I thought it would be after the mid-season finale...it's all way predictable.  From Tyreese and Carol being the ones to find one another...after Carol was the one who killed Tyreese's girl...so obvious.  But it's played out how mostly I would have predicted....each show basically follows one part of the split group and what they do to survive following the raid on the prison.

Yeah just a different perspective I guess. I was hoping that the girls would become new regulars, as I thought their story worked well until Lizzie Borden showed up. I just didn't like the sudden change from "Little Carol" to "I want to play with my buddy the Biter". I have never developed a caring relationship with either Carol or Tyreese as characters... so the episode was a dud for me.

I actually thought they should have waited to pull-the-trigger on Lizzie (I don't mean Lizzie herself, I mean the storyline). She was an interesting character. It would have been cool to she her do more psycho stuff and develop it more when the group is around. But this seems more tragic in a way.
