General Science Quiz

I once spoke with an adult person, a high school graduate, who didn't know that the earth revolves around the sun. Another one, who was actually in university at the time, was surprised to learn that the USA and the USSR were on the same side in WW2.

What state are you from? I'm assuming Ohio?

[inside joke]

One of our ODN members is from Ohio and she swears up and down that she was taught in school that Christopher Columbus, Captain of the Mayflower, landed on Plymouth Rock and had Thanksgiving dinner with Indians. Oh. And that clouds are sponges.

OMG! This is just nuts. The Teachers Unions are killing the brains of our nation by not ensuring that the teachers know their shit.

I see schools going to hell all over and they blame the kids. This is what happens when education is treated as day care.

Wait. You're saying it ISN'T day care?

Not enough chlorine in the gene pool ever since Jarts were outlawed, imo.

I had Jarts when I was a kid. It was a blast and nobody lost their life.

Lawyers would make life completely lifeless if they had their way.

so would every american with a gun imo >_>

I do believe your comment crossed the line.

Which country are you from that owes their freedom to Americans with guns?

Belgium, which I believe owes it mostly to Britain...

This quiz was too easy, no fun at all.

Tells a lot about  the general populace, doesn't it?

Or the education system.

Scary thing is, these people vote.

My grandmother, rest her soul, was a very smart and educated woman.

To the day she died, she was convinced that the moon landing was staged.

The moon landing was real?

Not taking a thing away from my British cousins but you are wrong Sir.

You may be able to drive your own Grandmother out, but it took the U.S. 101st Airborne and General George Patton's 3rd Army to dislodge your Evil Grandma the last time... and you've been free to kick the USA around ever since. Touche'.

Belgium, which I believe owes it mostly to Britain...

Perhaps a refresher course in WWII history?

Not to sound overly patriotic, but I'm quite certain Americans fought as hard as they did to protect the Trappist Monks. Thus, BEER [glorius beer] saved your nation.

But it was the Canucks who liberated Holland.

And were the backbone of the D-Day invasion, for your information, despite what Hollywood would lead one to believe.

12/13, because I stupidly get nitrogen and hydrogen mixed up in my head. Oh well. Pretty damn general though.

To redeem myself I'll mention that, if that were correct, we'd have never existed nor would land mammals. However a highly evolved race of merpeople would be cool as hell.

Absolutely. For anyone to say the Canadians were unimportant during WWII... well that would be a bridge too far. <Pun intended>

You guys kicked serious ass... :salute3:

Meh this is hardly a proper representation of level of knowledge of science and technology but fun in its own way. Intelligence is relative and with their sample pool calling it a "national survey" is extremely misleading. A sampling of 1k people to represent a nation of a few hundred million? Way too many flaws with this :/ For being the results from a so called research center, that to me raises far more questions than the results do.

I would mostly disagree with the statement that the problem lies with the education systems in place. I can't back this up past first hand experience with your average american high school in my area but I feel the issue isn't so much the lack of education systems or availability of material but more so the accepted mentality of many American's that its okay to half ass your way through an education and then expect to find a quality job. Its like how one of my college professors described it, "Education is the one place where people seem to want the least amount of return for their investment."

Also this entire survey is wrong, everyone knows we are really just programs on a computer who think we are alive but are really a giant experimentation to create bottom-up AI. Each time someone "dies" they are really just being harvested for use as an AI  :emot-psyduck:

Oh yeah, and about this, if you total up the averages on all the correct answers in the end for each age group, the majority of young people do seem to get a passing grade, at the very least. (I know you aren't supposed to do math like this, I'm just pretty sure it's a minority that actually fails.)

Not to belittle your nation and soldiers efforts, it was winding down when the evil grandmother went Napoleon on Russia :D

I aint dutch :(, those fellows hardly even fought, we tried being "neutral" as them :(

If you switch hydrogen with nitrogen, this would be a wet place indeed :o
