Everything you know about addiction...might actually be wrong

Featured Replies

I just got something in my feed timeline, which basically contradicts everything about drug addiction I've always held true. And it is brought quite convincing... when you;ve read it, what do you think?

I'm not so sure. Its not a scientific study, its a writing based on a blog post on an online newspaper so I don't think you can really rely on it.

That said, I don't think it says anything new. Basically all addiction recovery support I have heard of includes learning to deal with the triggers for the addiction, which may include loneliness and other issues in a persons life. However Chemical dependency is real-I don't get caffeine withdrawal because I am lonely or sad...I get it because my body no longer knows how to function without at least half a pint of pure brown goodness inside it. That is what cold-Turkey is used for (or the use of substitutes to ween people off such as methadone), its to break the physical hold.

However I don't think there is any rehab programme that doesn't recognise that you need a support network to break the mental connection to the drug.
