So imagine you still have a dual-core and your computer is really slow... so then you spend a shit load of money to build a completely new computer, only to have it also be... slow. This is my problem currently.

I have 8 GB DDR RAM and at the moment 99% of it is being used. It's not being used by any process that I can see, as all the processes running currently is usiong little over 800mb of RAM. Opening a new website takes me about 5 minutes and my patience has run out with all of the "scan for a virus" and "look for malware" comments all over the internet. DId anyone else experience this problem and already know the solution?

As far as I can tell there is a memory leak in Windows 8.1 (the OS I have), but what seems to have been the solution for other people isn't working for me. I've scanned for a virus, looked for malware, looked to see if for some reason ESET security installed itself (it hasn't), I've disabled SDU.sys and I've checked my Qualcomm driver. Nothing so far has worked.

If anyone have some advice I'd really appreciate it. As I said, my patience has run out and my computer is very slow. I only have a handful of programmes installed and they're not supposed to use that much RAM. My guess is that it should be a driver of something that is messing things up and I don't have the patience to update all of them - and these programmes that promise to update them all or find the problem, with the only catch being that after you spent 20 minutes downloading it and then running a scan - you have to pay $30 to buy a license isn't really working for me.

My processes window looks like this:

I tried to think back when this memomry leak started, it was earlier today, and i've been using my BRAND NEW computer from around Thursday. The only thing I can think of that I did today was install 3 add-ons for Firefox, adblocker, DWhelper and VideoDownloader, but I doubt it's a plug-in of Firefox using all of my RAM but it might be possible.

I have an Intel Core i7 - 4790 3.60 GHz with 8 gb DDR RAM and also the 64 bit 8.1 Windows Pro running. Graphics card is a Gigabyte G1 gaming GTX 970 4 GB and the motherboard is a gigabyte z97x-gaming 5. When I installed the motherboard it installed a few programmes like Killer Network Manager (some people have said that if you Enable Bandwidth Control on KNM that it causes a memory leak, but mine has been disabled since day 1), REALtek and all those default programmes.

Any help would be appreciated guys. As I said, it takes me ages to load a website, nevermind trying to update drivers etc.

I have all of my drivers up to date as far as I am aware - but there's probably a problem with one of them.

Firefox is a notorious memory leaker.  Based off what your Task Manager is telling me, your leak is in Firefox.

I run it at work with no real crazy add-ons, and I occasionally have 700, 800, 900 mb minimum being used.

Also set your page file to 12228 mb minimum and 16384 mb maximum.  That'll help.

So I decided to follow the 'fuck it' approach and started uninstalling the few programmes I have one by one. When I uninstalled the Qualcomm Atheros Killer Network Driver my RAM went from 96% down to 22% (where it should be). So I found my problem. Only thing is I need my network driver to connect to the internet and to find a solution to this driver so had to re-install it haha.

EDIT: One problem is that when I install the qualcomm network driver from the motherboard disc it also installs a few other programmes, all network related, and one of them is the Killer Network Manager, but I can't uninstall just the KNM I have to uninstall the whole driver, so not sure which one of the programmes is the actual problem.

Firefox does use a lot of RAM but it shouldn't be using 8 gb of RAM. It should be around the 500 mb region where it currently is.

Interesting problem here. From somebody who likes to sqeez my computers for everything they can pull off. A few things. Since this a brand new computer with better specs your speed is unacceptable. I can get better speed out of a windows XP that is over 5 years old +. It is clearly a program causing this. If you built this new PC replace that program with a highly rated one. If it's a prebuilt. Turn it back in and ask for your money back and make a custom one for a cheaper price. After that. The biggest issue I see is your storage. Have it upgraded if you can. Running near full memory will start slowing your computer down.

MVP(Mod’s Choice)= Master Samus; I think Master Samus played amazingly for a guy who claims it was his second only mafia game. He never led the town on him and that’s why he deserves this award. He was impressive in manipulating the town that led to the ultimate mafia victory.

Player of Mafia; Master Samus/emudevelopment (shared); I think both were instrumental in the town’s defeat. Both were manipulative and deceptive. They clearly came out as pro-town and looked like de-facto town leaders. They led the lynch wagon w/o anyone uncovering their true motives.

Samus, you should be proud that you've helped make an environment where people feel safe enough to share their experiences.

When you say VIdeoDownloader my spider senses cringe. Most VideoDownloaders are or are infected with Virus's. It feels like an infection to me.

I doubt its an acutal memory leak. Also most virus's will mess with your network settings, making it very slow to surf or do anything network related.

What OS you running?

If Windows 7,

Uninstall any anti virus programs and download and run the following;

1. http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/download/rkill/

2. http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/download/tdsskiller/

3. http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/download/junkware-removal-tool/

4. http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/download/adwcleaner/

5. http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/download/hitmanpro/

6. http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/download/combofix/

7. https://www.malwarebytes.org/mwb-download/

    Uninstall Malwarebytes

8. https://www.safer-networking.org/mirrors/

    Uninstall SpyBot S&D

9. https://www.avast.com/en-ca/download-thank-you.php?product=FAV-ONLINE&locale=en-ca

   Uninstall Avast

10. http://windows.microsoft.com/en-CA/windows/security-essentials-download

Either keep MSE as antivirus or uninstall and reinstall you choice of anti-virus software

If Windows 8 or 10 skip combofix as it will not work.

This is my standard method of cleaning a computer of Virus's.

If something will not unistall, like AntiVirus Pro 2015 (a virus) use Revo Unistaller in Hunter mode to remove that program.

http://www.revouninstaller.com/download-free-portable.php

This should help clean the PC and hopefully fix your issue.

I do not guarantee that this will not break windows if it is a bad infection. ALWAYS backup important things before running any of this list.

This may not fix any things a virus broke (IE Changing all your exe files to open in Picasa to become exe files again, but should get rid of the virus's themselves.

Hope that helps.

Cai, aka computer wiz :P

They can cause issues with some of the tools being run. You can wait until step 6 but I wouldnt run combofix with av running. It will probably be ok, but it can really mess things up too.
