While I like both, puppies can eventually become working animals, which puts them higher in my esteem. Cats do work as well, but not near to the extent that dogs can.

not a dog or cat lover, but i do not hate animals either.

 

so best option for me would be puppies

If I had to pick I would say dog. However, the dog I currently own need better training which leads me to frustration. However, I guess I only have myself to blame for not training the dog better.
