[KH-09] Forest Fire Mafia: Arsonists Win

Forest Fire is a 9-player Open Setup that won the Micro category in the 2015 Open Setup Design contest.

Setup

  • 2 Arsonists
  • 6 Tree
  • 1 Firefighter

Notes

  • Arsonists have a single factional night action. They may choose to prime a single target, or to ignite all previously primed targets.
  • Firefighter blocks the priming of a target ONLY on the night in which they are being primed.
  • Trees become Tree-stumps upon being lynched, allowing them to continue posting in the thread.
  • Firefighter, Trees, Tree-stumps, and Arsonists are all vulnerable to being primed and ignited.
  • Players are not told when they are primed, Arsonists are not told if the priming was successful.
  • Tree-stumps cannot vote, and do not count as a vote for endgame purposes.

Alive:

Electric Mango, Arsonist

 Dead:

Road2Victory, Tree
Duderonomy, Tree
Lyner, Arsonist
iSocialism, Tree
Commander Shepard Firefighter
Duke Nukem Pretzimus the Great, Tree
Rafay, Tree
Robert2424, Tree

The Rules

  • The game is comprised of Arsonists and the Forest (Trees and Firefighter).
  • The game is won when only one faction remains in the game, or nothing can prevent the same.
  • During the Day phase, each player may speak and vote inthread.
  • If a player receives the majority of the available votes during the Day, they are lynched.
  • At deadline, a player with half-majority will be lynched.
  • You may vote No Lynch.
  • After the Day, the game goes to Night.
  • The game thread is closed during the Night. The Arsonists may speak to each other at Night. All Active Roles may submit actions via PM at Night.
  • The Arsonists can, as a faction, prime or ignite at Night.
  • After the Night, the game goes to Day.
  • Basic rules for maintaining the integrity of the game thread are in effect (i.e. players may not quote their Role PMs, nor may they discuss the game outside the game thread unless otherwise permitted, etc.)
  • Mass role-claiming is allowed. (Good luck with that!)

Game Days will last as many real-life days as there are players alive.
Game Nights will last 48 hours but will include at least one weekday.

Addendum to rules: "If a day reaches the deadline without a lynch, the player with the most votes over a half-majority will be lynched. In the event of a tie, the first player to the most votes will be lynched."

With 8 alive, it takes 5 to lynch, or 3 at deadline.

Deadline is 12:00 EDT Wednesday, October 7.

While we may not vote this round, I'm still inclined to give my vote on who will go next round. Anyone who doesn't give an opinion is likely scared of getting lynched, which means a likely arsonist. Trees should not be scared of giving their opinions or being lynched, since they can win even if lynched.

I'm leaning toward Lyner and Electric Mango for the next round. Electric Mango has been really quiet, which makes me suspicious, but Lyner did pile onto Road2Victory at the last moment, which is a total arsonist move. I've also got a funny feeling about iSocialism. However, I'm not going to act on it until I get more proof.

Lyner normally sits and the background and pipe in a little every now and then, Lyner is also normally scum. However this game, lyner has been pro-active. He is also a very experience Mafia player. I doubt if he would put himself in the spot light with a last vote on a wagon.

The last vote was suspicious to me. I also have to watch my back sometimes because sometimes mafia could be behind me back. I am watching both my back and front. I know I am innocent I think I was just randomly killed to throw things off.

Since the scums are a pair I'm betting that one of the scum is the active one and the other one tries to blend in among the inactives.

This is still a stretch guess but EM and Duderonomy look like a good scum partners.

Also what's with the last vote suspicion? You have like 3 days (the day lasts for 9 RL days so that's 1/3 of a day, mind you) to respond to my vote, R2V. I heard nothing from you. If I pulled out then Duderonomy would have taken the fall. The difference is that Duderonomy was still around back then. Pretty obvious choice for me.

Another point is that the wagon consists of me, CS, and Duderonomy. If I'm suspicious for sealing the deal then CS and Duderonomy are more suspicious for their inaction(not unvoting).

I think I forget I was playing mafia back then before I noticed it now. RL got me lol. I have two watch two sides I can see two potential sides of this story.  I have came to see Duderonomy and robert are like one team and EM and Lyner are another. While me and isocialism stand in the pond midway through, while people already know I am innocent but I am not sure about isocialism yet but I haven't came come to a conclusion on him yet.

I didn't unvote since the other guy was going to get lynched anyway, it didn't really make a difference if I unvoted.

I was just hoping they would unvote then I would unvote, it's a bit different for you since you made it possible for R2V to get lynched when he had just 2 votes.

The reason for me not me unvoting should be obvious, plus I hadn't fully thought through all the permutations until I made that long post. Everyone seemed to be voting and seemed to think lynching was important, so I did. When I really sat and thought about it, I realized that I should have unvoted on that Saturday, especially since it would've made me more prime-proof (not completely, but more). Oh, the arsonists COULD prime R2V, but it'd decrease their kill count.

It'll be interesting to see if the arsonists ignite anyone early. If they do, combing through the ashes' posts should make for some interesting speculation on why they were so important that the arsonist felt they needed to go. The ashes, of course, can't speak anymore so there is that.

So we wasted Day 2 with a no lynch to have the same probability of "informally" randomly lynching mafia?

Nope, we are now at even odds to hit a primed tree or arsonist, which results in a neutral result or better for trees. And you just moved further from the circle, buddy.

Vote: Lyner

I'm not worry about being in ones circle or not being in it. Everyone has an equal chance of being scum. the problem with your scenario, is that lynching primed subjects doesn't do us any good. Yes it's pretty much takes away a night action away from mafia, but they have two primed already, we can't get ahead of them.

Right now 8 - 2 scum, 6 town two of which are primed, pretty much 4-2. There is one firefighter, but there is no way to ensure that he was successful. Mafia most likely haven't primed Lyner, voting him will take us down to 3-2. Then we will have to be successful.

Also, Kevin can the firefighter select the same target each night?

Can the firefighter select himself?

"Each night phase you may choose one other player to douse with water" is in the role PM so yes the firefighter can select the same target but no he cannot target himself.

This is the problem with not lynching. We are just as clueless today as we were yesterday. Better to go down swinging than sit around with our thumbs up our butts.

I disagree. We learned a lot about both Lyner and you yesterday. Something we'll use to our advantage today.

Was the arsonists inactive or they made a move not to ignite?

Arsonists can only do 1 of 2 things: ignite or prime. They cannot do both. Igniting slows their progression by a day. I'd be shocked if they ignite early unless someone is being a genuine threat and can be eliminated without suspicion. Or if they believe they've found the fireman.

Hmmmm idk who that may be the firefighter. The arsonist is tough to pickout at this point but unless they are inactive they could be more suspicious of their activities

Meh, not much to learn yesterday since everybody is keeping a low profile, making it easy for scums to blend in. If we go by the voting pattern of day 1 then the ones in my wagon(except me of course) are the suspicious ones, a.k.a CS and Dude. Honorable suspicions to EM for the unnecessary last voting the other wagon.

But that's pretty unreliable since it is day one's.

Day two, nobody votes anybody except me. I am disappointed, even if you guys supported no lynch yesterday I'd expect some votes thrown to stir up the discussions. Now start picking sides, we have one or two days remaining in the worst case.

Interesting. We can start stabbing each other after you explained this 'learned a lot' to all of us.
