This is very exciting news as it appears NVIDIA Pascal will be released in June of this year. This will be a huge help for people running multiple 4K monitors and 1080p monitors.

I personally only use a 27 in 1080p monitor, but I am hoping to acquire one of the cards when I rebuild my PC. While the 970 and 980 aren't old by any means, they have been out for some time and I would rather put the cash toward newer technology.

I already have a 970 but I'm excited for this new series

I recently got 970, and I am satisfied with it so far. My monitor is also 1080 22'. So I'm ok for the next 2 years hopefully.

By that time, Pascal would be optimised and 4k 32' monitors are cheaper and my salary hopefully is doubled.

That's the plan guys.

One concern about the new cards is what CPUs will be compatible. The list I've come up with, which is by no means final and has changed many times, is an I5 Skylake 6600K, 16 GB DDR 4 RAM, haven't decided on a motherboard, and a Pascal GPU (which I am not certain as to how many versions will get released initially).

So my game plan is to wait until Pascal get released around June, and wait a couple months to determine how well it performs. If it under performs I might buy a 980 and wait for Volta to be released in 2018. Once I know how Pascal turns out I'll get my list set up and wait for November, specifically Black Friday Weekend into Cyber Monday. CPUs tend to be on sale during that time and I should be able to find a good deal on RAM. I might even be able to get a good price on a motherboard too.

I don't mind waiting until November if it means a substantial cost savings. Never been a fan of paying a jacked up release price when all you would be is 'beta tester' for a new product. Like those who bought the 970 on release and then found out about the VRAM problem.

This is promising.

Waiting for the release to build my new comp for the fraction of the cost...

I just have a 930 lol

Yesterday was a big day for Nvidia. They officially launched the GTX 1080 and GTX 1070 cards. GTX 1080 will be $599 and available for purchase May 27th, and the GTX 1070 will be $379 and available for purchase June 10th. I believe a watered down and cheaper 1060 (if that is the official number/name) will make its debut sometime during mid summer. While we eagerly await benchmarks in the next couple weeks, the GTX 1080 will be faster than the Titan X at only half the price. The amount of performance per cost is looking incredibly good and I cannot wait to purchase one of these cards. I will likely buy the GTX 1070 over the 1080 as I only have 1 1080p monitor. Even those using VR and multiple monitors should get good frame rates on a 1070. So I see little point in spending more, as both of these cards appear to be very future proof.

I'm glad to finally see Nvidia stepping up to meet demand and delivering a great product for a very reasonable price. We will see how AMD responds and how their next card line will turn out.

This is a very exciting time for PC hardware! Pair one of the cards with a Intel Core i5-6600K CPU running 16 GB RAM and you will have one powerful PC that won't break the bank.

Truly, a generational leap.

Might have to upgrade again in a few years...

Nvidia Volta will be out by then. I doubt it will be as much of a performance leap from Maxwell to Pascal, but I expect these cards to get better and better at handling 4k. I imagine within 3 years 4K monitors will be pretty standard.
