So, how many was that Germany?

Oh, that's right, 3 attacks just this week alone.

+1 bonus:

2 or the perpetrators were asylum seekers from the latest invasion, other 2 also Muslims. Now look at all this and say to me with a straight face that we're not at war with Islam. Congratulations to Merkel for inviting the entire fucking Middle East and all of these psychos to Europe.

P.S.: Didn't want to make a separate topic for all these events, but I figured, maybe someone should make a tally.

The rest of the world has gone to shit. The Arab Spring was supposed to bring positive change to the ME, turns out there was no popular support for any sort of liberal principles, and instead people wanted theocracies. The EU economy is crumbling and we are falling behind pretty much everyone in military capabilities while tensions heat up everywhere in the world. Meanwhile, climate change slowly turns parts of the world uninhabitable while the population of Africa keeps growing exponentially.

The results of the reality check are in: the golden age is over, time to brace for impact. It's every region for itself now.

There is as much "peace" in Christianity as there is in Islam, go reread the Old Testament (pro-tip, they both follow it!)

Absolutely, and it took us more than a millenia to turn the papacy into pope Francis, and millions died for it. The Jews went under their own reformation. We paid dearly in blood to get where we are today and I'll be damned if I sit by quietoy while Mengela Merkel sells us out to Islamic theocrats.

Christians do not follow the old testament, that's an uneducated statement.

Christians obey by the rules laid out in the New Testament as Christ had already fulfilled the Old Testament.

Read the two, there's a completely different demeanor.

doom for all o/

as for the old/new testament, how many christians follow that one aswell? Its mostly just morals that are taken from it, morals that are generally universal (aka ever religion has them).

What you got is a few misfits who hijack some radical part and toy with it to suit there narcisism, the real danger is it becoming a tradition (see North Korea).

Yes, but the Old Testament is still part of the "canon" if you will, otherwise no Christian would argue for "intelligent design" or keep the "ten commandments". It still "valid" for the most part. It is true though that the Bible's main focus is on the New Testament though.

we don't follow '10 commandments' either, as those were commandments given to the children of Israel, not Christians.

might need to educate yourself a little here

Not every Christian is a perfect Christian, but don't mistake that all Christians follow the New Testament.

Umm, yes you do? At least they are explicitly part of the Catechism of the Catholic Church, but even if you are not a Catholic, you can look to the Sermon on the Mount:

“Do not think that I came to destroy the Law or the Prophets. I did not come to destroy but to fulfill” (Matthew 5:17)

and continues with

“For assuredly, I say to you, till heaven and earth pass away, one jot or one tittle will by no means pass from the law till all is fulfilled. Whoever therefore breaks one of the least of these commandments, and teaches men so, shall be called least in the kingdom of heaven; but whoever does and teaches them, he shall be called great in the kingdom of heaven” (verses 18-19)

So yes, unless you follow some really unusual form of Christianity, the 10 commandments are still valid with some "tweaks" here and there

Well not directly.

We don't look at the 10 commandments as the rules that govern our lives. In the New Testament Jesus Christ introduced the commandment to love thy neighbour:

"A new command I give you: Love one another. As I have loved you, so you must love one another. - John 13:34

Which carries the same weight as the 10 commandments and some more, i.e if you love your neighbour you will not steal, etc

But it isn't the commandments that were given to the followers of Christ (Christians)

That's my own understanding anyhow

Shit, I was in Nice with my GF just 2 months ago, walked the Promenade des Anglais every day. Next week I'm in Vienna and after that in the Algarve, knowing there are misguided, frustrated, impressionable individuals on every corner of every street, looking for a reason to unload. All you need is a rented truck or a shank. ISIS provides the perfect ideological motivation and claims every attack is by one of their "soldiers". Meanwhile, Adolf Erdogan is busy with his own expurgation program, recruiting Turkish immigrants across Europe to attack their fellow immigrants.

Aye, we live in interesting times.

@Samus

To be honest, the text is (unsurprisingly) so obscure that you can interpret it quite a few ways. The majority opinion seems to be that they are still in effect with the tweaks and additions that you also have mentioned.

But you at least have the opportunity (and even encouraged) to interpret the texts for yourself. A vast number of Muslims for example believe that even this is forbidden for the common believer, and interpreting religious texts is the privilege of the Ulema

I think this is the biggest reason why people get brainwashed so easy. They go into a class, listen to someone preach their own interpretation of the books and declare it as factual, rather than taking in others interpretations and coming to a conclusion with their own understanding.

Say what now?

The Old Testament is an indispensable part of Sacred Scripture. Its divinely inspired and has never been revoked...

Yeah... no. The 'democratic' traditions of UK led to the creation of first concentration camps in connection with 'scorched earth' policy, as but a first in line of many examples... So yes, by all means do give it some thought (before making claims of the sort above).

For some reason, I think we are discussing Protestantism <=> Roman catholicism.

But interpretation is indeed what is required, interpretation off all the notions and prior interpretation made by people. I'd rather not be just another parrot reciting mere words put forth by someone someday.

The point was made perfectly obvious, that you chose to ignore it, is your own fault. You said, and I quote: "Christians do not follow the Old Testament". A factually incorrect statement, for a great majority of Christians (assuming that one would define a Christian as anyone who professes faith in Christ and who has been validly baptized).

Did I say you said that it was revoked? I didn't. I simply questioned your statement and provided information on the position of the Old Statement in Christianity. You can not fault other people for assuming something when you yourself make statements that erroneus.

I am a Traditionalist Catholic myself. Dare I assume you would not consider me a Christian, given some of the views you expressed thus far?

Note: Ignore spelling errors, auto-correct is what it is

The Jewish people still use the old testament, and don't not believe in the new testament. FYI Jewish as in faith. But to say Christian can now be vague, because Mormons, Catholics, Baptist, Methodists, Jehovah would consider themselves Christians. I would consider myself non-domination Christian, or in other words. A Christ follower. Meaning my one goal is to be more like Christ, and to follow in his foot step. And this is where I think Samus is hinting at. That we follow Jesus who showed us what it meant to obey God, with this I don't need to follow the ten commandments (directly), because Jesus live it.

I'm not trying to preach to you guys. Just trying to further a point, as I saw it. Also to have a little more discussion. In reality, you might still be able to argue that some domination of Christianity do follow the old testaments.

When your hart is in Christ, the name of the path on which you follow him, isn't important.

The question with respect to the ten commandments is simply a question of whether or not one considers that the Old Testament is the veritable 'Word of God'? If yes, then it can not be unliked with the New Testament and with Jesus. Jesus spoke on the issue and his view on the matter was that of total and unconditional trust (as per the Scriptures. To be clear I'm commenting solely on the relation of the Old Testament to the New and Jesus, and give no opinion on whether or not one ought to follow it.

What line exactly did I throw an insult at you?

You made a point that had nothing to do with what I said and I simply questioned why you were quoting me. You never questioned anything about my post which was why I was confused why you were quoting me.

And I still stand by that point, Christians do not follow the Old Testament, maybe you interpreted me wrong. I'm not saying it's irrelevant, i'm saying it's not the testament we live our lives by and it shouldn't be as it's already been fulfilled! If you do indeed follow the old testament, I hope today you no longer eat pork and you're still making your blood sacrifices right?

Don't play dumb Theo, you're obviously fishing for something here with me, I said nothing of offense to you.

My girlfriend is catholic, we have our disputes on believes, but at the end of the day she's still a follower of Christ and hence a Christian to me. Stop with the stereotypes and assumptions, no one's out to get you.

THIS EXACTLY.

My family grew up in a Pentocostal environment and I was raised in one too. But learning and gaining my own knowledge, i'd rather call myself a non denom Christian too. IMO all religion is a lie and is fueled by mans own agenda, believes and interpretation. That's why I don't really consider Christianity a religion, more of a relationship with yourself and God.

With religion you have rules.. Must not eat pork, Must pray x times a day, No contraception, etc etc. With a relationship, it's just an understanding.

What line exactly did I throw an insult at you?

Firstly, you wish to discuss something, then behave courteously and respect your interlocutor... without unecessarily insulting them. Please do take a look at the previous page where you used words such as uneducated. That is what I was referring to. In a discussion about religion of all things, you should avoid insulting people (patronising counts as such as does unargumented dismisiveness, whether or not you meant it as such is perhaps a different question).

My point had everything to do with what you said. Especially since you said something about interpretation and how it should be left to each individual. You are making arrogant claims that are factually incorrect, namely "that Christians do not follow" the Old Testament or Ten Commandments. You might not follow them, you Church might not follow them, but do resist the urge to impose your view on everyone else. Furthermore what does it mean to "follow", is it to do literally as it is written, is it to try and abide by the spirit in which it was intended, or something else?

You can believe what ever you want, but do not claim that your views are shared by everyone... as a rule of thumb, they most likely are not.

The only one playing dumb here is you apparently... As said above, I'm not fishing for anything, your personal belifs are your own and you may believe whatever you want. Having said that, that does not mean your beliefs or your views are imposed on the body of Christianity as a whole...

Your staments Samus could have fooled me, objectively speaking, on whether or not you consider Catholics Christians (as I said above, thus the question). Was my question posed in a provocative way... yes it was. But I'm glad you cleared that up.

No stereotypes here Samus, that is unless you want to see them, but that is up to you. I said the most important thing (to me anyway) on this issue above in a different reply, namely "When your heart is in Christ, the name of the path on which you follow him, isn't important".

To be clear I didn't think anyone was out to get me, but that now that you mentioned it :P You need to calm down and realise I'm not trying to pin anything on you...
