I started the build April 2015 and completed it in Dec 2015. In the long haul, I think it ran me just over $2,000 total, but that's because I waited for all the parts to be on sale. Full retail it would have cost a lot more. I removed 2 SSDs from it since December to use for other things as well (PS4 and other desktop). I was originally planning on running RAID 0 but canceled that when Samung released the 950 Pro.
