http://www.cbc.ca/news/opinion/electoral-reform-1.4515883

Here we go.

Flash back to 2015, Mr. Stephen Harper was the Prime Minster.  I'll admit he was very unpopular at the time.   Enter Justin.  He promises that this will be the last election that is run using First Past the Post.   Because..uhh, ummm, err, aaah democracy and its current year now.   Enter the Elizabeth May, the leader of the Green Party, showing how much of a goose stepping fascist she is when she announces "If Harper wins a majority government, I'm going to march into the Governor General and demand that Harper not be allowed to form the government."

(Lys I know you're reading this now because I mentioned Trump, I'll explain it later)

Well, Shiny Pony wins the election.

Now he has to make good on his promise, to reform the way we vote.  He wants a Ranked Preferential Ballot, which I'm convinced involves interpreting the entrails of a goat.

He instructs Parliament to form a committee to recommend electoral change.

That committee reports the following:

1: A referendum ( not all that popular in Canadian politics)

2: The preferred change is (according to the asinine mydemocracy.ca), Proportional Representation.

What does Prime Minster Selfie do?

Dismisses the lot, because the stupid little people don't know whats good for them.

The only reason Trujoke wants Ranked Preferential Ballot, is because it would favour the Liebral Party.

Like I'm going to trust a party that has described itself as "the naturally governing party of Canada".  Like I'm going to trust a "leader" who admire's China because of their "basic dictatorship".

Justin..Just Out 2019.

Can you guys PLEASE take over the northeast, and the entire west coast? I promise we would not even put up a fight. We'll even throw in Hawaii to sweeten the deal. I'm just really wanting some peace and quiet for a change. I know they're a handful, but you'll grow to like them. One small request... please allow my wife and daughters to visit their family and all will be cool.

*eye rolls*

Proportional Representation\Ranked Preferential Ballot\First Past the Post produce essentially the same result under a parliamentary system 90% of the time. The parties a change from FPT would favor would be the NPD and the Green Party. The party with the most to lose is the conservative party, but that's because A: it would reduce liberal/NDP vote splitting and B: Could Enable the P in the PC to split off, which is why the harder right conservatives are pissy about this.

2: Change in voting system absolutely would require a constitutional amendment (See the senate reform reference decision, ie why harper failed to ditch the senate)  and right now about the only province likely to get onboard is BC and maybe Aberta. Wynne has been pussy footing around it and has taken zero steps in Ontario to do it despite saying she wants to and have a majority which...yea. Quebec meanwhile is making all sorts of noise about more recognition for Quebec  in the constitution and oh god no one is opening that can of worms. And without Ontario And Quebec on board....it's not going anywhere.  Technically you can get the 50% of the population,. but you'd need bascily every other province on board and lolno.

How about keep it FPTP but make the districts so small that is becomes a virtual PR :D Thou I doubt you'd find any majority for more politicians >_>

Atleast Canada has somewhat of 3.5 parties, I'd guess 1 party more and enough people will be disenfranchized so they want PR to be done. That or have an election where 1-party government is not possible and they might sort it themselfes then and there.
