Can you ever go back to teaching (not that I would)?  Not the way I quit.

There's a story you need to tell :)

I know, I know....a simple article about students not being able to read an analog clock was causing them stress.  Its a symptom of a larger problem.  That problem being we are not preparing our young people for the realities of life.  We are too concerned about how they feel about themselves.  We too concerned with their self-esteem, we are protecting them too much.  They're being sold a bullshit message of "if you can dream it, you can do it."
That's not reality.  That's not life, you either sink or swim.  There are parents out there who are teaching their kids what lies ahead.  "Life is tough, and you best be prepared to fight for what you want, and to grab hold with both hands and not let go."  They are teaching their kids to be resilient, that you are going to fall, and you need to pick yourself up and carry on. That's a message more and more kids are not getting.  I pity them.  It's not their fault for the way they are, it's ours.  More specifically, their parents and their school's administration.

And those kids will eat the snowflakes for breakfast. Won't be hard. Behold the future leaders.

To be fair, analog clocks are outdated. With a digital clock you can do 24 hour time also referred to as military time easily and in my opinion we should move to that. At a glance you can tell if its morning or afternoon where as with analog you need additional information which isn't provided by analog clocks. With all that said every wrist watch I owe or have owned is analog, I prefer the look of it.

Heck as I mentioned you need additional "insight" that isn't given to every individual. As spatial awareness goes, I have met people who couldn't for the life of them see a 3D image from a 2D representation.

We are trailing into a "kids these days are so X, in my time we did Y" mentality. Which I find humerous as many of those "old days" folks had it way better then their own parents in their childhood and so forth.

Not everything is progress and not all progress is usefull. But complaining about this one just seems very snowflakey to me >_>

Old people blaming the youth for being stupid instead of realizing that things are different now? That sounds too far fetched to be true.

Well I have always been for a more practical application of history (can't remember dates if my life dependend on it :D). Some stuff does get forgotten to soon, I don't mind having some time allocated to teach reading an analog clock which youngsters these days only find sporadic (and unnecessary for them).

But to immedeatly go into "old men on porch" responce is indeed laughable :D

my freind has a 5 y/o daughter, so I was at his place and she was just playing around asking for my phone, so i handed her over my backup nokia (one with buttons, i got it when i broke my primary to pass through the day and not miss calls)....she just starting rubing/scrilling the screen and looking at me like 'wtf is wrong with this thing, it's not responding'.

That was an interesting moments, kids of no concept of 'buttons on phone'.

I'm fine with it, they dont need to know it.

Similarly, I have alot of early 20s guys, everyone's got a snapchat and instagram these days, i signed up, just so im 'in the loop'. my accounts are literally empty.

I like how people use generational terms as if they are something that actually exists...

RH when you mentioned semicolons I could only think of the lonely island song :D
