From what I hear it was some guy who lost a game and was a poor loser. What I cant understand is how he got a firearm in there, literally every event I go to around here has metal detectors.

Every security measure is only as strong as the individual managing it.From what I hear it was some guy who lost a game and was a poor loser. What I cant understand is how he got a firearm in there, literally every event I go to around here has metal detectors.
About a year ago I attended a live musical performance at a popular building for events in the NY Capitol of Albany. This particular building has those silly "No firearm stickers" plastered all over the entrance doors. And in NY contrary to popular belief, they are unenforceable by law, they are literally a suggestion to say "Please don't carry a firearm within this building". The worst thing that could happen if you are caught carrying concealed is that you are asked to leave. If you refuse to leave, you will be charged by the police for trespassing. The only places in NY those "No Firearm Policy" stickers are enforceable are Court Buildings, Schools, Federal Property, etc... So knowing in advance the event I was going to attend had metal detectors, I left my carry pistol home. When I arrived I was greeted by a teenager and an adult manning the metal detectors. A city police officer was off to the side scanning the crowd. I approached the metal detector' took out my keys and went through. The detector went off indicating I had something metal, realizing it was my belt, I removed that and went through again. It went off again indicating I had something metal. I was confused because I knew I didn't have anything. The teenager operating the detector asked me what else metal I had. I replied "I don't have anything, unless maybe its picking up the zipper on my pants". He had a really weird look on his face and after a couple seconds said "You're fine, go ahead into the building". I silently laughed to myself thinking I could have brought my pistol after all. Their security is horribly incompetent.
Underpaid, inexperienced, practically ad hoc security doesn't make me feel safe. They will likely not step in to protect my life if the moment is forced upon them. I'll take the better odds and train to be my own bodyguard.

MVP(Mod’s Choice)= Master Samus; I think Master Samus played amazingly for a guy who claims it was his second only mafia game. He never led the town on him and that’s why he deserves this award. He was impressive in manipulating the town that led to the ultimate mafia victory.
Player of Mafia; Master Samus/emudevelopment (shared); I think both were instrumental in the town’s defeat. Both were manipulative and deceptive. They clearly came out as pro-town and looked like de-facto town leaders. They led the lynch wagon w/o anyone uncovering their true motives.

depending on the study it can be 10% to 89% of the shootings happen in gun free zones. Mass shootings happen everywhere and that is because for the most part this is done by people who are deeply disturbed mentally, and the rest because of crime but you could argue that those people aren't sane either. Here is some of my sources if you are curious.
I don't mind gun free zones as long as they are not security theater and actually defended by professionals who are properly paid. The last event I went to had private security and a state officer there with only one way to enter and that required a metal detector. That seems pretty secure and I cant imagine it being too costly to replicate something like that.
