I'm overjoyed that this miserable excuse for a human being is dead. That said, the timing and circumstances here are very interesting:
- He was hiding out near the Turkish border
- He's been under surveillance for a few weeks, supposedly the US waiting for the right time to strike
Seems correlated to the Turkish offensive on the Kurds. I wonder whether Erdogan knew where al-Baghdadi was all along, and named the intel as his price in exchange for US troop withdrawal from Kurdish territories...
