I personally had an amazing experience in Boy Scouts. However, that had a lot to do with my troop and the council. As our council slowly brought their policies more and more in line with National's I was less impressed.

Heh. Boy scouts. You need money for that. And possibly a family. haha While you were earning merit badges, I was learning the metric system, so to speak.

My "other half" was in scouts for a couple years, mainly because he felt pressured by his father to join. The older kids were alright, but the younger kids were pretty troublesome (not to say they didn't know their stuff though, well some of them at least). He didn't really have much in common with the other boys there, and wanted to quit for a while seeing how he wasn't much of an outdoors person (or a people person in general). Sometime while he was in first class rank, there was a meeting the one night. The scoutmaster's son (who was one of the troublesome kids) was giving him trouble (has been for a while). Well, out of nowhere while they were playing a game, he bit him in the stomach for no apparent reason. He quit either after that week, or sometime that month at least.

wow I guess the experience you have depends on the troop. I'm a star scout soon to be a life scout and I want eagle by 15, if anyone is active and going to national jamboree tell me and we can meet up just don't be a nerd Dom Zak I know your face

Yeah, my experience is that it varies a lot from group to group. That was one of my biggest surprises when I worked as a counselor and saw all kinds of different troops come through. I think it's all about finding the right fit. The program has the potential to offer a lot for kids, but you have to find a group that's offering what you're looking for.

Same here, it's also where I got my love of the outdoors from. Most of my scouting was in a homeschool troop back in ohio, then when the scoutmaster wouldn't give me the life scout rank because I wore my hat backwards to 1 meeting (which I took off when he asked me to wear it correctly or take it off) I changed to a different troop (same state though). After a year or 2 I moved out to colorado and joined a troop there (I also wound up joining the OA), and finnishing eagle at the last second. After that I did some minimal helping in the troops my little bro joined, but he wound up quiting scouts and is now in CAP.

OMG. I am in Colorado, got my Eagle a year ago from troop 98, and I was active in the Longs Peak OA.

I was never was a boy scout but I always wanted to. I have a friend who was in it and he says it was pretty cool.

i was a scout aged out at life but my goal was not eagle but to have fun and teach the younger boys the fun that I had. from simon kenton Council and philmont was the best experience ever.

cool I was almost going to Philmont with my venturing crew because they won the lottery to get n on THEIR FIRST TIME!!!!! But didn't go so they could go to the fricken national jamboree and so I wasn't able to go (majority rule sucks).

yea it was so cool to climb baldy with my brother and my dad all the men in the family together.
