I'm looking into getting a 2TB has well, 500GB pretty much gets filled within a few months even if you don't have many games.

I have a lot of the free game though.

yep this, i've had to delete games I don't play.

 

They take up quite a big amount of space these days

I just did it today, the real bitch is just having to download all the games again. Just make sure you save your saved information at least online.

But it's pretty quick and painless, got the HDD changed out and system re-installed in about 30 minutes, and just letting my system on as it downloads all the games.

I was getting tired of only having 100 GB or so empty space, and that's with having some games uninstalled. I usually go the digital downloads these days, so it was time. 2tb should be plenty, I really don't see me having enough games I actually still play taking up near that. I'd recommend it. The HDD I used was on sale for like $60

This is the one I used to upgrade, I bought it at $69.99, it's gone up a bit, but not too bad.  I can confirm that it works as I just did it today.  All you have to do is take the HDD out of the enclosure and put it into the PS4.

I'm using Amazon to buy my hard drive. Just noticed it now says some products don't deliver to Ireland, the Samsungs at least.

The data transfer rate seems important, I notice a lot are just over 600 Megabits per a second. The PS4 needs 4.8 Gps?

If you want performance, then I would suggest getting a 248+ GB SSD and then a 1-2 TB Expansion drive (Like 2 or 3). Mine

 

2 and 3 don't look to be SATA judging by the slots. They're just drives for storage and to hold games. This means they always need to use a USB slot.

 

If you want performance and space all in one drive, then I would suggest a hybrid drive. It basically has an allotted 120gb which provides the SSD portion and then 940gb+ for storage. SSHD (Also available on Amazon)

I was looking at the performance, the most notable difference is GTA loading times which is a good reason to buy a SSD or a 7200RPM hard drive.

I believe backups work via USB. When I transferred over, I had backed up all my data via USB. A drive cannot serve directly as the operating system unless it goes into the SATA slot inside the PS4, to my knowledge. It can however contain all of your games but the games can't run off the drives. USB 3.0 can transfer at rates of 640 MBps, which is 10x faster than USB 2.0. PS4 utilizes the USB 3.0.

That is the exact one I bought.  The one you linked on Amazon looks to be the exact same, just in grey, not black.  This has a eSATA drive.  (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/ESATAp)  It works with both SATA and USB.  Once you take the HDD out of the seagate enclosure, you pull back some sticky foil, and you remove the USB connection plugged into the SATA end.  Then you just take out the PS4 HDD, and the Seagate will slide right in (no need for USB, it fits into the SATA drive of the PS4 just like the original HDD).  

 

When you do this (I think the video I posted shows this as well), you can connect the USB connection to the PS4 HDD, put the foil back on, and stick back into the original Segate enclosure, and now you have a Portable 500GB external harddrive.  

 

I do not know about the others, but I can tell you for 100% certainty, the 2TB segate slim external harddrive will work, and will fit into the PS4's SATA drive just like the original HDD.  You don't have to worry about USB or any of that, and the plus side, you will have a 2TB PS4, and a 500GB external HDD with enclosure.  

 

The earlier video I posted will show you all this as well.  If you go this route and have any questions the video doesn't help out with, I'll be happy to help.  The only thing besides changing out the HDD's is downloading the PS4 file on a memory stick (need at least 1 gig i think).  I posted a link above the video with all the steps as well.

I don't know how a USB would be to use to save your games to and access in your PS4.  My guess, it will likely be a nightmare.  I have read mix comments, but it seems like though you can save some stuff your external, you cant install the game from a USB on a ps4, thus you wouldn't be able to actually play the game.

 

My honest suggestion, stick to a HDD that know will work in the ps4 and go with that.  There are options as you've shown that work, it really depends if you want a 1TB or a 2TB.

Yea, what i was looking for.  Works great, having 2TB now i can load all my games i own on and have plenty of leftover space.  

Got the 2TB Seagate Backup Plus hard drive a few days ago, really helps a lot in removing the caring about space. Messed up backing up my PS4 games though but I'm only playing one atm and I only own 5 game titles not including the free ones so it wasn't a big issue.

 

Now I just need games to fill it up, waiting for some sales again, missed a bunch of the last ones. 

Good to hear it worked out.  Yea, I made sure to back them up.  You probably still could do so if you really wanted to, and just put back in the old HDD
