I used to work at a computer repair shop and we would use a few different antispyware/malware/virus programs that are free and get the job done pretty well. What operating system is the computer? what is the make and model? When you go to my computer, what drives do you see? (ex. C: Local Drive, D: DVD drive,... etc.) Do any of them say recovery?
Start of EDIT:
The free programs that I use for removal....
NOTE-----download the following programs, but do not run them yet.
1.CCleaner (removes all "junk/not neeeded" files from computer)
2.Spywareblaster
The Following link will install the three programs below (will default to free versions) If you would like to download full trial versions manually download/install programs individually
https://ninite.com/avg-malwarebytes-spybot2/
3.Malwarebytes (Could use their 30 day free trial)
4.Spybot Search and Destroy
5.AVG Free (Could use their 30 day free trial)
Once you have downloaded all of them. you can run ccleaner, after that you could go to spywareblaster update it, and enable all protection.
After running those two programs restart the computer. once the computer shuts off and begins to turn on start pressing F8 every half second until a black and white screen appears with safe mode options. highlight safe mode with networking and press enter. This would load a very basic version of windows which will increase your chances of discovering malicious threats.
If using windows XP, select the administrator account. if windows vista, windows 7, or windows 8 select your normal account.
-----note---- (if vista, 7, or 8 before opening programs below be sure to right click the icon and run as administrator) If XP simply open them
Now open malwarebytes and make sure to update it, if it hasnt done it, itself already. run the scan and remove any objects found.
After that is done, open spybot search and destroy. Again update it, run the scan, and remove any objects found.
Once those two programs are done restart your computer. After it has restarted open AVG as administrator like above if vista, 7, or 8. update the program, and run the scan.
Hope this helps
