As per fuax news

Putin wants his empire back. Fox picked up the report from the Associated Press Mr. Zacch... drink more MSNBC Kool-Aid and stick your head further into the sand. Let's waste more time talking about the weather and football air pressure. We'll be here to bail you out when the shit hits the fan, because that's what we always do.

No, Putin is defending his turf. The difference is Russia isnt some 3rd world country operating 60's equipment that'll buckle and fall on itself on the first sign of imperial Army.

I guess one possible analogy is that Russia views Ukraine similar to how the US views Guatemala, as part of its sphere of influence.

Atleast that's what they think. Imagine, suddenly a democratically elected neutral Mexican govt is over thrown and a new Anti-American and Pro-Russian govt is put in place with troops being deployed at border and armed by the Russians with occasional rockets falling on American side of the border. I think the congress will flip over itself several times and then go in guns blazing and while they're at it, might as well expand the California.

The thought of another Mexican American war just entered my mind. The last one lasted 3 days, how long would this one last?

I doubt any longer, probably shorter and that goes for pretty much any other country as far as conventional armies fighting it out is concerned IMO. US is pretty much leagues ahead of anyone else and will run circles around any nation state(s) if 1 v 1 open conventional warfare is concerned. I strongly beleive even if you line up the next 3-5 or 10 most powerful countries together, US will still run through them probably within a week, no questions asked if it's at max deployment. It's brilliant and worthy of admiration in it's own right, being a big fan of millitary hardware, it's simply amazing. Tho, as we all know, Occupation is a completely different ball-game.

I guess Putin's taken a page out (to certain extent, not completely) of the Texas take-over by US as far as Eastern Ukraine and Crimea are concerned.

It is an interesting scenario.

When someone is messing around in your neighbors yard, and you know they have not necessarily been on good terms with you, there will be a reaction.  It could range from mild annoyance to confrontation.

Now add in world politics, ego, a couple of powerful military forces, and a long history.  Now all you need is a spark.

I am not a fan of either side in this conflict.  I want to see the  Ukrainian  people given the freedom they desire and deserve, and I feel that it is a worthy cause.  But I have no desire to see more bloodshed.

eeeeeh, I think to preform the correct analogy you would have it that US troops entering Mexico and annexing Baja California for example...

thusfar nothing NATO combat ready is in Ukraine nor is there attacks from Ukraine unto Russian land.

its not a good scenario. This could keep escalating. I'm not saying the Ukraine government is perfect, but Ukraine wants to govern itself. Its a matter of how Russia reacts now. Before this blew over once, I was hearing stuff of Russians fighter jets near the state of California (Over the ocean). I remember reading russia claiming it was a training scenario.

both sides like to "buzz" eachothers airspace, don't blame Russia singular :D

It's the same old one-dimensional strategy from Russia:

  1. Stir up unrest
  2. Claim Russian citizens/ethnic groups are in danger
  3. Landgrab!

Then rinse and repeat. I say kick them out of the SWIFT system, then grab some popcorn. Maybe if they're busy trying to glue their crumbling economy back together, they won't be so eager to play Command & Conquer

So you get second-hand fox, then.

Russia has violated a sovereign nation and technically invaded the Ukraine.  The annexation that Russia performed on the crimea region of Ukraine could be likened to Hitler's annexation of Austria in the name of Lebensraum.  Russia's extensive aggression must be countered.  We cannot be a dog that is all bark and no bite.

I say let the Europeans deal with it, we have spent too much money being the worlds police.

I do not believe the U.S. should police the world.  However, I believe that the U.S. with her allies should stand up for those who cannot effectively stand up for themselves.  Russia is a socialist nation that is showing aggression.  If the world community continues to back down from Russia, then what deterrent is there for Russia from following an even more aggressive and dangerous path?  The U.S. should lead, not police.

You know whats hinting back at the new "Cold War" is that the FBI broke a Russian suspected spy ring in NYC. The spy was disguised as a banker for this Russian bank and was ordered to get intel on Wall Street and persuade New Yorkers to keep them updated about the economy. It seems funny how the Russians are trying to avoid deeper sanctions. I get how Putin's trying to protect the Russians but that violated an international right-- the right to remain as a free country.

You were already involved in proxy war by funding anti Russian politicians by the tune of billions, its just gotten more active.

As for legality, who decides legality? There is no binding UN resolution nor US accepts international criminal Court where it could file a legal case.

Ukrainian constitution was shred to pieces when the previous government was overthrown.

So legality is just a matter of opinion and a point of view.

As for spying, everyone spies, US more than probably anyone else given the scale of NSA leaks.

Well what I am saying is that every country has a right to self-determination. The UN charter was founded based on this principle and supported the formation of new countries during its early years.

I know spying everybody does but it feels a repeat of the Cold War fear again. Like with this proxy war in Europe and an unusual, world united position in the Middle East things just get added on top of each other.

Being a European, I would like to see this myself.
