April 24, 201511 yr comment_774115 https://news.vice.com/video/russian-roulette-dispatch-107 This dude seems a pretty crazy, but I agree with his view of western Ukraine for the most part. Not fond of his blind support for the Russian oligarchy while hypocritically accusing America of being one, but I thought this interview gave a decent look at how the Ukrainian rebels feel. And who can blame them? When the dude accuses the western Ukrainians of being Nazis, he's not just talking out of his ass. You need not have to read much to realize the general western Ukrainian sympathies for the Nazis is quite blatant. I'm not a big fan of war, and I feel bad when I take sides, but I'm with the rebels on this. Everything else aside, if they want to be part of Russia, they should be able to make that decision without tanks and artillery rolling over their homes. Report
April 24, 201511 yr comment_774117 That guy can suck my shit straight from the source. It'll feed him better than the Russian pogroms. Stalin killed far more than Hitler ever did. Both are crap, but Ukraine's in a crap stew. Report

April 25, 201511 yr Author comment_774193 Proshenko is as right as you can get. He's an oligarch who buys up everything he can in Ukraine. But the fact that Nazi parties were elected into power to begin with speaks loads about western Ukraine. Not to mention the war memorials they have for Nazi collaborators and SS Galizien. Report

I assume the Nazi parties reference is to Svoboda with its super-scary 6 of 450 seats and zero members of the government leadership? Of course, Russia is a much more civilized place than Ukraine. They only keep statues of Stalin around (and of course, he would never have been responsible for the most deaths of any leader during the 20th century). Stalin was basically so nice to everyone, they rewarded him with a permanent position in the national necropolis. And while that far-right nationalist Svoboda party tars Ukraine as a bunch of Nazis by getting 4.7% of the vote, Russia's far-right nationalist LDPR party shows that Russia is a much more civilized place by only getting 11.7% of the vote. April 26, 201511 yr comment_774743 Yeah, and 'Merica still has problems with the KKK. A tiny minority of Nazi sympathizers in Ukraine is more a symptom of free speech than a cause to condemn the entire country. Of course, Ukraine could just kill and jail any Nazi sympathizers like Russia does. That really reflects the values that Westerners fought for in WW2 and the Cold War. Report

If we go to the Wikipedia list of current and former fascist movements listed by country, we find the following line of text:This list has been divided into four sections for reasons of length:Followed by links to 4 separate list articles. From those, we can see that active groups exist in Ukraine, Russia, the United States, and in fact, most countries on earth. Report

What's wrong with keeping statues? It's a part of history, things like that need to be remembered. There's no point in destroying statues, it won't change anything. I will admit that maybe removing them and putting them in museums would be a better course of action. Report
