First Republican Debate Tonight!

Who's gonna watch? I will be.

17 candidates, some are Republicans, some can be just trying to make you believe they are, but they will all take a stage tonight and one of them will probably be the next POTUS.

5pm Eastern 2pm Pacific... Rick Perry, Rick Santorum, Bobby Jindal, Carly Fiorina, Lindsey Graham, George Pataki, and Jim Gilmore take the stage and will talk about why they should have been on the next stage.

9pm Eastern 6pm Pacific... The Main Event. Donald Trump, Jeb Bush, Scott Walker, Mike Huckabee, Ben Carson, Ted Cruz, Marco Rubio, Rand Paul, Chris Christie, and John Kasich will take the big stage... and and all attention is on Trump.

It's on Fox News... let's have some fun with this!

My wife took the day off... come on over for some eats and martinis :)

I intend to watch but the timings could be awkward, any place where there will be intl low resolution stream?

I'm hoping Trump comes up with solid policies this time around and builds a solid support to run on GOP ticket or independent. GOP deserves the wreckage he will cause for mainstreaming and nurturing the crazies instead.of sidelining or.moderating them.

I have cable TV and a DVR, so I don't know about international streaming. Maybe someone else here?

The only thing that scares me about Trump is if he wants to run third party. If he does, the rumors about him entering the race to help Clinton are true. He's not a politician, so he's not held to the same politically correct bullshit that is so entrenched in our civil discourse these days. Normally what he said about John McCain would have killed the prospects of any other career politician... and John McCain is one of them, but so many Republicans feel McCain has been part of the problem for a long time, and relish that someone has the nut-sack to say it. We have had the same people, saying the same things, and doing the same nothing or worse for many years... it's time to make some big changes, and if Donald Trump is the biggest bad-ass that can get it done... then God bless him and his ego. He gets the nomination... I will support him.

Overall, what I really appreciate about Trump is he is his own man, he isn't owned by big money and if he does wins he'll be the least partisan of all the candidates. Less strings attached.

It's literally going to be the Trump Show.  Majority of the candidates will throw insults at Trump to be more "relevant" and stand out, and others will just throw out their thoughts knowing they don't stand a chance, and Trump will most likely be Trump....I expect him to be very vocal and make some very bold statements, and we will likely hear about them for the next weeks as CNN/MSNBC look to spin everything he says into a racist, women hating, gun toting, asshole of some sort.

Who I want does not stand a chance, but I wish he did.  #StandWithRand

Well right now it's 3:20 pm Pacific... main debate starts at 6 pm Pacific... 2 hours and 40 minutes away.

The first round just finished. Just as I expected, 7 people trying to make it to the main stage. Fiorina stands out.

Who's gonna watch? I will be.

IDK what time it airs my time so I'll probably watch it later on the interwebz. I for one can't wait to see Trump get stumped.

So far I'll give Trump this:

Seems like he actually prepared, which I wasn't expecting.

But on the other hand, it's the same Trump rhetoric:

"This is the problem and I'm clearly a part of it. But vote for me, just because I've pointed it out. Disregard the fact that I've built my entire career on exploitation of this exact problem I speak of. Surely that's enough to convince you that if I get elected, I'll actually change that."

Betsy, is it too late to move to Belgium?

Trump is his own man in the same way Bernie Madoff is his own man. Trump just figured out that all he has to do is set up a shell company, get investors, pay himself obscene amounts of money, and then run the shell company into the ground. He's made himself a celebrity so he can keep getting investors, and is smart enough to make sure that it's the shell company that gets the investment and goes bankrupt, while he just draws a ridiculous salary and benefits so he can charm the next set of investors.

Kasich and Christie imo did best.

Trump was set up to fail imo the way he was asked questions, but he talked straight through it. Fox/GOP establishment and donors(who have money riding elsewhere) understandbly pressed on him imo. Trump is who he is, he therefore performed as expected imo. I think the biggest blunder for him was no pledging to the final nominee. If I was him I'd go on all out counter blitz on the topic for next 24 hours while its fresh and people are just waking up and while opinion on the topic could still be fluid.

Rest of the pack totally did the cliche canned, prepped and scripted responses tweaked little bit here and there for policy variances. Rand sounded funny, imo he was the biggest looser followed by the minority candidate who didn't get much speaking chance and fact I don't remember his name explains that in itself.

I didn't find Rubio or Bush to be any special at all in the debate, I just can't connect their performance to the applause they're getting from some corners, either I totally misjudged for lack of appropriate context and framework or they just want to feed these candidates down on everyone.

Also found it totally funny how questions on Iran almost always ended up with fighitig daesh and kind of framing Iran with them.

Tho I liked the idea in one happy hour debate by one of the guys who talked about a united Arab effort against Daesh.

All I can say is wow. Here is how I thought they all did. It's only my opinion... just an up or down about how I thought they either improved their position, or hurt their position.

Donald Trump - Down

Jeb Bush - Down

Scott Walker - Down

Mike Huckabee - Up

Ben Carson - Up

Ted Cruz - Up

Marco Rubio - Up

Rand Paul - Down

Chris Christie - Up

John Kasich - Down

The first debate was completely dominated by Carly Fiorina and no one came close.

All eyes are on Trump. I don't know yet if this destroyed him, or if it will launch him into the stratosphere. I don't like the threat of an Independent run, and when he went after Megyn Kelly I just face-palmed. Megyn is a hard professional and the best interviewer in the business. Her job is to ask questions and get the answers and she does her job so good that many flee in fear. Where a lot of people will hate Trump for last night, it's possible that many more will support him because he was just the kind of jerk they want.

Jeb was pale and flat. Marco killed him on Common Core and he's weak on immigration.

Walker was what I call milk-toast. No threat to no one, and his position on no abortion even to save the mother kinda made me go "What?". I could never watch my wife die for anything, or anyone.

Many people were surprised with Mike Huckabee. I wasn't. I have always known him to be great on a debate stage.

Ben Carson was totally drowned out until the end... home run.

Ted Cruz is the silent winner of the night. He's a champion debater, and everyone will see a swell of support for Senator Cruz.

Marco is my personal favorite. He's done everything right, he has a great story, and he's sharp as needles. Look out for Rubio.

Rand Paul just seems like an angry man. He may have the Constitution on his side, but whoever told him that going after Chris Christie would be an easy kill should be fired. Rand is an eye doctor... Chris was Attorney General for New Jersey and not a guy you want to shout at. Chris took Rand to school and gave him a spankin'.

John Kasich sounded like a bleeding heart liberal all night... I would bet he's gone before the next debate.

Have fun with my opinions gang. Always remember... I love you all.

Truth is, nothing about a presidential run will hurt Trump, win or lose. No matter what happens, it'll add to his celebrity, which increases his business. The worst thing for him would actually be winning, because then he has to deal with all the headaches of the office (or just pay for someone to do it for him).

Glad to see some relatively new faces at the debate though. The Democrat's primary will probably be a Hillaryfest.

Betsy, is it too late to move to Belgium?

No, but why would we want to give you something nice? whats in it for us?

Maybe Trump can build you a wall.

I think the democratic debates would really provide more of an equal footing for other candidates to be heard more widely. Currently, given her vast resources, she's pretty much dominating easy peasy on that side of the aisle.

I feel that your logic is following the cat and dog fallacy. My dog has 4 legs, my cat has 4 legs, therefore my cat is a dog.

The Party needs something different, this is something different, therefore this is what is needed.

Trump will never be President of the United States. He is unelectable for that position because whilst he may fire up some of the Republican base, the fear of that maniac in the white house will drive moderate voters to the Democrats, and insight the "soft" democrats who feel that the party is too far to the right to be worth voting for to actually turn out and vote. He would turn the Republican party into a joke and then give the Democrats a landslide both in the Electoral College and in the Congressional elections.

Further, he would be an abysmal President. In a few short weeks he has demonstrated that he is a blatant sexist, and probably a racist as well. Mexico would hate him from the start, and would likely make no effort to support US policy, which would make immigration reform harder. (and walls are stupid...Italy has several hundred miles of sea and still has a migrant crises. Recently someone walked down the fucking Channel Tunnel to get to Britain...barriers don't stop determination).

Donald Trump is causing chaos. I will support him if he earns the Republican nomination, but he seems to feel that he is entitled to special treatment and doesn't need to explain his actions, his statements, and his positions of the past. He's fighting the wrong people, and a war on Fox News and Megyn Kelly for asking him about these things in a debate is showing he has thinner skin than Barack Obama, and that's pretty damn bad. His comment about Megyn on CNN... "She had blood coming out of her eyes... she had blood coming out of... wherever" was so bad it made me sick. He was uninvited from the RedState gathering because of that. When he offends the Republican Party leaders so bad that they start banning him from the stage, it's real trouble. They don't have to give him the nomination... even if he gets the votes. It's their party, and they can tell him to pound sand. He runs third party... we have a real problem, and I'm not convinced that he would not win. There are many Democrats that feel their party is going too far left as well.

Trump on the ticket is the surest way to get me to vote Democrat, no matter how much I have to hold my nose. I've voted Libertarian and Republican. If this is the direction the Republican Party is going, I want no part of it. He's a Grade-A con man with horrible ideas and no respect for veterans. I wouldn't want to be associated with him financially or politically.

Trump will run as a third party without the nomination, because he doesn't give a damn about the U.S. or the Republican Party. He's in it for himself and his celebrity. Always has been. Always will be.

The whole Republican party's persistent namecalling of their own reps will continue to kill the whole party, to the detriment of democracy in America. They're so out of ideas that they have to attack each other rather than come up with legitimate policies. Instead, all you can get out of them is "no taxes" without an explanation on where their budget cuts are going to come from. The waste and Welfare Queens that they cite make an incredibly small part of the budget. So small that you spend more money cutting it than you actually save, through the extra bureaucrats needed to implement the cuts. Medicare, Defense, and Social Security are where the cuts must be made. Out of those, I'm betting that SS and Medicare go first. It's why I'm spending and saving like I'm never going to get either of those things. Those are just extra taxes on my paycheck at this point.

I find it hilarious that so many of my family members argue for tax breaks that they will never see. People claim that the U.S. has a progressive income tax system without considering property tax, sales tax, corporate tax breaks, and capital gains. You're far better off doing nothing with a million dollars in a brokerage account than doing something for society and getting a million-dollar salary. Part of the reason I've already started a brokerage account and spend only half of my income. I may think it's shit for the economy, but no one is going to take care of me when I get old. If I feel bad, I'll give money to an animal shelter or something. It might make me a hypocrite, but I'm not rich enough to ignore the tax savings. It can make a difference in me having the money for a house repair/medical procedure or not.

I'm not really understanding why you would support him if he gets the nomination. If a party nominates such a creature, then surely your allegiance to such a party should be in question anyway?
