First Republican Debate Tonight!

Who's gonna watch? I will be.

17 candidates, some are Republicans, some can be just trying to make you believe they are, but they will all take a stage tonight and one of them will probably be the next POTUS.

5pm Eastern 2pm Pacific... Rick Perry, Rick Santorum, Bobby Jindal, Carly Fiorina, Lindsey Graham, George Pataki, and Jim Gilmore take the stage and will talk about why they should have been on the next stage.

9pm Eastern 6pm Pacific... The Main Event. Donald Trump, Jeb Bush, Scott Walker, Mike Huckabee, Ben Carson, Ted Cruz, Marco Rubio, Rand Paul, Chris Christie, and John Kasich will take the big stage... and and all attention is on Trump.

It's on Fox News... let's have some fun with this!

My wife took the day off... come on over for some eats and martinis :)

Donald Trump is causing chaos. I will support him if he earns the Republican nomination, but he seems to feel that he is entitled to special treatment and doesn't need to explain his actions, his statements, and his positions of the past. He's fighting the wrong people, and a war on Fox News and Megyn Kelly for asking him about these things in a debate is showing he has thinner skin than Barack Obama, and that's pretty damn bad. His comment about Megyn on CNN... "She had blood coming out of her eyes... she had blood coming out of... wherever" was so bad it made me sick. He was uninvited from the RedState gathering because of that. When he offends the Republican Party leaders so bad that they start banning him from the stage, it's real trouble. They don't have to give him the nomination... even if he gets the votes. It's their party, and they can tell him to pound sand. He runs third party... we have a real problem, and I'm not convinced that he would not win. There are many Democrats that feel their party is going too far left as well.

I'm not really understanding why you would support him if he gets the nomination. If a party nominates such a creature, then surely your allegiance to such a party should be in question anyway?

If Donald Trump earns the Republican nomination... then he earns the nomination. I don't turn Democrat because the guy tends to be a jerk. Obama's a jerk but Democrats still voted for him. Obama's a jerk but he still got 90% of the black vote. It would be a vote against Hillary Clinton. I would vote for a plant before I would vote for her. Bottom line... I'm a Republican Capitalist... not a Democrat Socialist. I would take Trump's capitalist mouth over Hillary's, whatever she wants to call herself at the time, lies.

Understand now?

you agree to not vote for Hillary but this seems to be more in line with the "democrat" label instead of the "policy" label. Hence that icewolf finds it odd that you would support Trump while obviously villifying him.

If the party you supported your wole life goes somewhere you don't like, it isn't a shame to stop supporting it. People change, and funnely enough so do political parties. Usually when "new" people enter it or get into positions of power. A decade ago it was the Tea Party that made a change, now its Trump.

As a young blood, I would have to go with Rand and other candidates besides Trump on this one. A party shouldn't be divided if the Republicans were aiming to retake the White House next year and somebody's causing that- Trump is.  I have a feeling it could go  a wrong way if we vote for this guy and it feels like he's being sexist when the Republicans can potentially lose votes. He's hurting our image and the best way is to have another candidate defeat in the upcoming debates and shine.

TBH there is no clear winner in the Republican nominee yet as I see, we will have to see more.

I spent the last year dealing with someone who was very like trump in the context of an NGO I am part of. Let's just say that you would be amazed at how much damage someone who has so little grip on reality and so much ego can do. Yes a plant pot might be better in your views than Clinton but the benefits of a plant is that it can't do that much damage.

Even though he has no real plans and can;t even so much as talk about something other than his stupid ass wall (that is actually too fucking expensive and stupid as fuck to really do) or how he's leading in the polls?

God forbid he talk about real issues and offer real solutions.

You'd vote for that? As I said earlier, I will legit take a half eaten pop-tart over Trump any day. Because at least I know the pop-tart is more intelligent.

But seriously, I'd vote for Hillary, or even ANY Republican candidate before I would even slightly consider voting for Trump. But not even that, I would seriously (and I mean this absolutely sincerely, not even fucking joking) vote for a half eaten pop-tart over Trump. Fuck that idiot.

With that being said, I want to know why exactly you hate Hillary so much?

I'm not a big fan of her, but for other reasons than why most people hate her. If it has to do with Benghazi, then I fell really sad for you. To quote the most uneventful war movie ever made (which I personally think was a good movie):

"All presidents lie, asshole! That is their fucking job."

I watched the Republican debate and every candidate had more or less the same to say. Some had different ideas about abortion and how to get tax cuts, but all of them had pretty much the same policy ideas. "I promise to cut taxes, but I can't tell you how I will do that, at the same time I want to spend a lot more on our military so that we can stop ISIS, Russia and China." We all know how this will turn out.

All I can add, since I'm not an American, is that our president back in the 2009 elections promised to create 6 million jobs within 5 years. Last year in the last elections his record was adding 1.3 million jobs, of which many of the jobs were in the Western Cape, governed by a different political party. He failed. What does he promise in the 2014 elections? To create 6 million jobs... Guess what? He got re-elected. Presidential candidates do that, and that's why you or anyone will never be happy with a sitting President.

Tldr, no matter who wins this election, the majority of Americans will hate him/her after only a year or two in office, but the chances of that President getting re-elected is highly likely and we will back to this exact same conversation in 8 years.

But that takes all of the fun out of the election. :(

A wise man once said "election years are how we get back at the politicians who will bend us over for the next few years."

Truth is, happy people are quiet people. I live in staunch Republican country, and people only complained when Clinton and Obama were in office. They were largely quiet during the Bush years. So, of course complaints are going to be loudest in the losing party.

The biggest problem with politics and democracy in the U.S. is that it encourages a competitive-team mindset rather than a policy mindset. Candidates are opposed because they aren't Republican/Democrat enough, rather than their stance on issues or ability to get necessary legislation taken care of. The political process is competitive entertainment rather than a real attempt to deal with the issues facing the country. Our nation deserves better than to have real decisions sidelined by ax-grinding and attempts to torpedo the competition. The Republican Congress's behavior the last few years is one of the main reasons I hesitate to vote for them anymore, either by voting third party or just not voting.

And don't worry about commenting on another nation's political process. You might not have much of a stake in the game (although that's arguable with U.S. politics), but you've got a brain capable of pointing out problems and potential solutions. People forget that this is the most important part of free speech and democracy: the ability to deal with problems rather than letting them fester for the sake of some dictator's pride.

What you say is true but a foreigner also has an outside perspective - I might be better situated to give a completely objective view but as I'm not affected by the policies directly, or at the very least I am affected by them indirectly, I don't fully understand some of the more sensitive issues. An example would be: When I look at American politics I always see Americans complain year on year of how 'corrupt' Washington is. I don't really understand how Washington can be classified as being corrupt, living in a completely corrupt society in South Africa I just laugh at their ignorance, but in the end my experience in my own country can be the exact same experience an American experiences in the US - it might just be in a different form. In South Africa you will get our Minister or President to take $20 million in bribes to give business or perks to an individual or even a company, heck our President spent more than $20 million of taxpayers' money on his private residence. In the US big companies like Lockheed or Boeing invests money in lobbyists to convince Congress to spend more money on the military, more specifically on their products. I look at this and say that's mere commercial competition and advertising, whereas an American looks at it and say it's a corrupt society where big companies direct American policies for their own profit. This is just a stupid example.

My views on what the next 4 years for the US foreign policy have to be: spend less money. Spend less money on the military, spend less money in foreign aid. Direct more business to the US. This would be difficult as the US already have strong unions and trust me, there's nothing more dangerous than strong unions. This is one of the biggest reasons for the automakers having to declare bankruptcy in Detroit - they were unable to be competitive because of unions. I would advise the US to stop interfering in countries such as Libya, Syria, Iraq, Afghanistan, Yemen etc. These are all hot-spots that were created BY US intervention - the US should stop interfering with domestic affairs of sovereign nations, and that includes Ukraine. This is basically my perspective of things. I can't really comment much about internal policies such as taxes and migration, but the US really needs to stop spending money.

The fastest answer is she is a Democrat. That includes Liberals, Socialists, Progressives, Environmentalists, Abortionists, Unionists, and any other nation killing radical left group determined to turn the U.S.A. into something else.

I can go into specifics about her. She's a liar... about everything... and it's not policy opinion lies, she lies about herself. She has never accomplished anything. She has collected titles for a resume, and all because of her husband. She has been up to her ears in criminal behavior for decades, and skated through on her name, destroying evidence, blaming others, or the strange and sudden death of material witness. She will never answer questions... and if she is ever tied down to respond to anything uncomfortable, she will laugh with an annoying cackle in an attempt to cast blame on the person who asked the question... that the question is some kind of joke and they can't be serious. She belongs in prison.

The answer would be much shorter to... "Why do you like Hillary Clinton so much?"

On another post... I liked everything Road2Victory said.

When it comes to corruption, it's more like the trait "corrupt" is such a taboo in the U.S. that it's very easy to smear your competition by just uttering the word. Similar to "Nazi" or "Communist" (please see instances of this earlier in this thread). I agree that it isn't always applicable where politicians/pundits say it is, but I'd rather they keep pointing fingers than the public start cynically accepting it as the way of things, like they do in certain other countries. Lobbying is a grey area where sometimes it's flat-out bribery, and other times it's educating politicians in subjects that they aren't experts in. It depends on where the dollars are actually going. Even the energy industry has wizened up to the benefits of cracking down on "gifts" from its vendors, but they have no compunction about paying for a politician's dinner.

I agree on the foreign affairs, which is why I vote Libertarian. The U.S. is not, and should not be the world police. It's not fair to U.S. citizens because they have to bankroll everything and it is not fair to the international community because they have less say in where/when force is used. It has been far too long since the rest of the world has pulled its weight on military spending. World War 2 has been over for nearly 100 years, and Japan/Germany have been good international citizens since then. Time for them to support their own self-defense.

Sorry, Lysistrata, but I have to disagree with painting all Liberals as Un-American. Theodore Roosevelt, my favorite Republican, both started the National Park Service and busted Big Business repeatedly. Unions can be a necessary check against the power of executives. I've explained before that anybody in power, whether executive or politician, will abuse it if they are not held in check by something, whether it be government or unions or the press. I think that unions are a better way to control businesses than the government, and would rather strengthen worker's ability to bargain collectively than rely on politicians and bureaucrats to do it for them.

I never said Liberals are un-American. I said they want to turn the U.S.A. into something else. We are a Constitutional Republic, not a Democracy. This is the core of my opposition to Democrats. When Theodore Roosevelt was President, unions were needed for workers protection against long hours, unsafe conditions, and low wages. This is no longer a problem and the unions need to go into the ashcan of history the same way the monopolies did. Whatever the problem there is a private sector solution. Big government is killing the country. The National Parks are awesome and needed to be protected. An unfettered and zealot EPA will destroy the U.S.A., their war against the national economy and safety of the American people must be crushed. If not, very soon most people will not be able to afford to live.

I also liked everything you said.

I also agree that Hilary Clinton shouldn't deserve to win the presidency because all of the lies and conspiracies she creates from Benghazi to her email accounts, she has been trying to avoid the truth of what she is really doing. Why bother to elect somebody who lies and doesn't tell the truth about what happened instead cover them up?

Way to go

We Republicans shall retake the White House, I don't want a Democrat running the office for another 4 years. I had already enough of this democratic government trying to expand that isn't doing much. We need a much well respected candidate to take the helm, not the wife of a president.

You realize Republicans are for the same exact big government, right? Only difference is, they tend to be closet racists, hate abortion and are completely out of touch with the lower class. Other than that, you never see the actual size of government change regardless of what party is in office. Republicans simply overuse government power in different ways than Democrats do. Like shooting college kids for protesting stupid wars because if you question the military industrial complex, you're a communist.

If your idea of America is the 1700's, we have completely different views of what this country should be. Progress is not achieved by getting stuck in the past.

Hi Foxy... that is a huge juicy thick center-cut slice of bologna. For 100 years Democrats have been demanding concessions from Republicans. Some we had absolutely no ability to even stop, like Obamacare and Dodd/Frank. It has always been Republicans need to "compromise". Republicans have to give, and Democrats take. We compromised with illegals... we'll let them stay if we secure the border. They get to stay... and the border is still an open highway. We say we will allow tax increases on condition of spending cuts... the taxes always get increased but the cuts never come. Seriously, we are compromised out. We can no longer afford to compromise with Democrats. So really all your old big government money pit programs can all die on the vine as far as I care. Do you really believe that calling me a racist, or a killer of college kids helps the cause? Kent State was during Lyndon Johnson's stupid war and because I hate rap doesn't make me a racist. I grew up listening to Jimmy Hendrix and Phil Lynott of Thin Lizzy... both black dudes. So stop living in the past, stop playing the race card (it's really old), and dump this outdated big government bullshit. We can all live with freedom, liberty, and prosperity for all, in the UNITED States.

On Trump... none of this appears to have slowed him down. He's still polling high, and it seems that he has people that will support him no matter what. The real story will come when some of them drop out. Where will their support go? It's like a Mickey Mouse balloon... if you squeeze one ear, the other ear gets bigger. So hopefully someone else gets stronger and overtakes him.

I would agree to a coronation. Democrats can crown Hillary, and we'll just put up Carly Fiorina. Can you say... "Cooked Hillary?"

I would have to agree with you. He's hurting our image that we need to win. I don't how much votes we can lose if he was the candidate as of today especially towards women and Latinos. These two areas are the specific targets that the Republicans need to advertise and get support from and I think we may have lost that unless there is a stronger opponent.

It's pathetic how Trump is just taking the storm. Soon the his storm will die and everybody will forget about him.

First off, Obamacare ended up being a disaster, but we already talked about healthcare before. If we want to make it affordable, we are going about it the wrong way. Regardless, Obamacare was at least something. Something that no Republican ever brought to the table. And I think I speak for every educated American when I say the old system could not last.

As for spending cuts and taxes, it was a republican who put us in Americas longest war in history and drove balls deep into dept. All that debt lies on the shoulders of people like me, and the sad fact of the matter is, taxes have to go up when your economy is reliant on acquiring unsustainable debt. Like I said, both parties are for the same exact over sized government. Always have been. The political differences between the two are so minute that it's a joke.

Sorry about throwing out typical stereo types, but you've also spoken some harsh things off the top of your head before. Yes, we can all live united, but if you ask me, BOTH parties and the top elite class are destroying this country. Not just the Democrats.

As a former pollster, I can assure you that political polls are biased as fuck and absolute garbage. I was doing polls for the Republican party (EDIT: IDK actually because we were not allowed to know who pays for the surveys, but every poll was clearly biased in favor of Republican opinion. Even those that weren't about the election) last election and even the conservatives I worked with all agreed the polls were biased trash.

"Obama said (insert anything anyone ever would disagree with). Would this make you more or less likely to vote for him?"

"Romney said (insert anything anyone ever would agree with). Would this make you more or less likely to vote for him?"

^Word for word.

Oh wait, I forgot to add the whole "And would you say somewhat less likely or much less likely?" tid bit. They're a total joke and half the people you called accused you of being biased and freaked out. That is, if they didn't already freak out that you were calling them to begin with.

Better ask Hungary, they are actually do it >_>

That's right <_<

Though I'll say one thing, Trump could probably build a better one if he set his mind to it, one that can't be cut through in 2 minutes :D

Don't want to derail the topic though, the migration debate would need its own thread.

sure one can build a good wall if one puts his mind to it. Generally the mind is't the issue, its the $$ backing it >_>

Think nothing of it Foxy... you know I love you

*Plot twist* :P

I do agree with you that Hilary is little better than Trump, though. At least Trump is better at his real estate scams. She gets a little credit for Bill's career, because she was always the mastermind in the 90s, whether they trumpeted the fact or not.

Here's hoping that your consolidation scenario holds up. It usually does happen that way. Both Clinton and Obama kinda came out of left field. George W. was a shoe-in, but I'm not sure about his dad. Either way, Long Live the Lizard People!

On Trump... none of this appears to have slowed him down.

Those aren't gauging what the public think of Obama/Romney. Those are gauging how well their next attack ad will work. Cut image of Romney saying his thing, and Obama saying the other, and see how much it hurts Obama's ratings. Polls have more than one purpose.

All the Trump haters will have to go up against these people...

I don't normally take extreme views, but I often feel that certain people need to be put into re-education camps until they can speak correctly.

Walls have always been stupid ideas. Not even the Great Wall of China managed to hold back the northerners after it cost hundreds of thousands of lives to build. The Willow Palisade also failed to stop migration into Manchuria.

I don't think Trump realizes there is already a wall spanning much of the border and it does almost nothing to stop people from smuggling people or drugs over.

Here's the wall.

Unfortunately, smugglers have just been building mobile ramps to get over.

This one failed, but many don't. It's a complete waste of time and money.
