Funny how peoples opinions change when roles are reversed.  Don't get me wrong, people on both side have made statements/remarks they later contradict, but nonetheless it's funny each time.

I was gonna post this but you beat me to it Sir... Obama can nominate anyone he wants, as often as he wants... it matters not. He will never get another Justice on the bench. Please, accuse us as often, and as loud as you wish, that this is purely a political block of a sitting U.S. President... I will say... "You're damn fucking right it is".

I'd just like it noted that strict constructionists are all for what it says in the Constitution until it is politically convenient to change your mind.

I would like it noted that the Constitution only determines who does what job... it says nothing of time constraints, or even that it must be done at all. If Obama was in his first term running for re-election, and he felt he would take back the Senate, therefore giving him a more liberal choice... he would delay his nomination until the next term. It goes both ways my friend.

And in what way would a 4th (or 8th) year Trump be handled if it happens to him?

 

Believe me, I know what it is to "suspend" any government approved job from being filled, its stupid every time, all the time.

 

You need people with credentials PAST the membership card they have in their pocket. Sadly this is a power-centered world so that won't change anyway.

It always depends on who is President, and which party controls the Senate. When the Democrats lost control of the Senate in 2014, this scenario in 2016 was elected, and a foregone conclusion. Democrats know this, and they know they can't do anything about it, but they would be morons to not try to bend the politics in their favor for this coming election. They will bang this drum all the way to November, and Republicans will keep giving them the finger while banging the drum to elect their guy to make the SCOTUS choice. It's American politics and I am so used to it.
