Ah I love Civ but havent played it in a long time. One of those games you pick up and don't realize you have played all weekend.
Build a massive nuclear arsenal and have them based in sub's, when you have around 80-100 nukes then enact a nuclear arms embargo at the UN - if you get it right your the only nuclear power and have a huge arsenal whilst no one else can build them mwhahaha

January, IRON's Member of the Month is obvious. With our two top Military guys out for the Holidays, we had a monumental problem. IRON needed not only a leader to step up and lead our highly motivated Military, but one to also lead our sides coalition. We needed someone who the rest of the world respected and had the experience to plan and execute a winning battle strategy. While the opportunity to lead the coalition did not emerge, he took the job knowing that he may very well be the Master Military Coordinator of the Coalition. IRON's Military was in good hands. Also while the war wound down he took over the Awards Dept issuing some long over due awards. I present to you the protector of puppies, taker of Welsh virginity, the son of IRON, Bill N Ted.

I tend to annex coastal city states, they serve no purpose other than being a potential landing site onto MY continent for whoever they are friendly with, and I cant have that.
City states that are at the edge of my borders on a continent I tend to ally with and trade with as they serve as a buffer zone to any potential land invasions into BNT Kingdom proper. Usually get the aircraft carriers flight decks running hot, fuel up the B2's in the forward bases bomb the other empires on the continent into rubble then drop in the paratroopers, when the paratroops have taken most of the empire out and the air forces have annihilated any remaining ground forces I send the mechanized infantry and tanks rolling through the city states, annex them and then push on through to take the rump of the empire I have pounded.
I hate having piddly skirmishes; I have fought them but they are not how I fight through choice, I usually keep the peace long enough to build up a force and then make a move in such a way that I will conquer and annex a whole empire in 3-4 turns.
I always go Russia, 2x natural resources is epic for tank armies, helicopter and nuke brigades. Tend to be sneaky and purchase great generals, I use these to daisy chain into enemy empire territory to remove uranium out of their empire and into mine, also forms a helpful land bridge to cut the empire in half and be a boardwalk for future invasions.
Well that's my afternoon sorted, Civ 5 it is
