I am going to Japan next month. I have been doing a lot of research and have figured out how to get around and where I am staying. All paid already and such, but I was wondering if anyone had any advice about the area, especially for someone who has never been there before.

I have never seen any hentai, but they will probably kidnap me and force me to watch it while I am there.

Don't know much about the other cities. But the Aquarium in Osaka is definitely worth it if you have kiddos and the Umeda Tower is worth the wait in line to see a view of the city. If you're into sight seeing.

Just some tips.
Set your card to withdraw money in a foreign country. Konbini (I think it's called) has ATMs you can use an American Bank or British Bank card. It's the Japanese 7-11.
Get Google Translate on your phone and print out your hotel address before you arrive. If you get lost, locals will help you find it.
Cultural tips. Do not tip money. It's offensive. Wear nice socks, because it's disrespectful to walk on carpet with shoes. Yes, even if it's a carpetted restaurant, take your shoes off. Do not pass any food with chopsticks. I forget the reason, but it'll piss alot of people off. You can eat with chopsticks, but don't pass food or anything with them.
Dont point at anything, use an outstretched arm and hand. Pointing to your nose is acceptable because it means you're talking about yourself. Bring your own toilet paper and the round part of the toilet bowl is the front. Watch how loud you are (you will get yelled at when walking into somewhere. They're excited, not mad. They're saying welcome.) Don't walk and talk on a cellphone and don't eat while walking down the street. It's considered rude. Don't worry about the face masks, people aren't sick. They're trying to avoid becoming sick. Watch where you sneeze and cough, you might freak someone out. Slurping your noodles is a compliment. Bowing is a standard greeting, don't shake hands unless they offer their hand first. Shake with both of your hands and use both your hands to accept anything.
Try to learn a few basic greetings in Japanese. Wash your hands before entering a temple.

@, About half of that I read when I googled Taboos, but holy crap there is a lot I couldn't find that you said. The washing your hands before entering the temple for instance I had no success finding before.  Thanks a bunch man.

Do NOT bring any kind of drugs. They take it very seriously. 

 

Try the Maid Cafes in Tokyo. They are pretty amazing, though I never went inside one. And even though they may look like it, they're not sexual. People go there to relax.

 

Tokyo's got a really crime rate. One reason for that is the awesome policing they do. The other is the organised criminal world, Yakuza. They won't do anything unless you somehow mess with them first. Be careful and stay safe!
