Currently my computer is pretty stacked, I have a lower high end Mobo, plenty of ram and an 8 core processor but my computer has been having framerate issues as of late and I cannot do utilize my set up properly. I have come to the conclusion that it is probably my GPU that is lacking. I have a Radeon HD 7870, so if you were in my shoes and would like to be able to play on max settings for games and to enjoy the nice graphics what would you upgrade to? Options in the pull

I've checked the speeds and such, this is more of what should I do money wise. I've narrowed it down to 3 cards for possible upgrades, but at the same token I don't even know if I should upgrade my computer

What are you having FPS issues with? If it's 4k gaming then my answer is different from if it's just general 1080p?

Mainly frame rate with Eve, and a few others. I also have had issues watching netflix on one monitor while playing a game on another, and then pretending to work in the background of all that.

Before you go about replacing and buying stuff, have you tried Razor? It helps to eliminate back programs and free up some space to push a decent amount of fps into your gameplay. I was getting 30-60fps depending on the game and with Razor alot, I can hit the 120s (isn't useful though as my monitor is optimized at 60fps, so anything over is kind of pointless.)

Before you go about replacing and buying stuff, have you tried Razor? It helps to eliminate back programs and free up some space to push a decent amount of fps into your gameplay.  Any background stuff should be dealt by the CPU, which is excessive so I doubt that is the issue.

Would you mind giving us a list of all your parts? What clock speed is your CPU set at? And what OS you are using? And lastly, disable a bunch of unused background programs, that will give you some temporary relief until you upgrade.

 

If you plan on using two monitors then you will want the extra VRAM in the GTX 1060 6gb.

windows 10, 16gb of ram, AMD Fx 8350 eight core processor


The 3gb 1060 should be good enough if you're not planning to get higher resolution monitors.
 

 

If I am upgrading I want to future proof a bit. Games already starting to have 3gb in the recommended specs

That AMD CPU will likely start causing bottlenecks even if you buy a powerful card. You won't notice it in games that aren't very hardware intensive. But if the game is CPU intensive you will get some erratic frame rate drops. You could always buy a new card and see how it goes. And then whenever you are ready to upgrade the rest of the PC, all you would have to be is a new CPU + MOBO, and possibly RAM depending if your old one is compatible with the new MOBO.

The processor is better than any game's recommended on even the highest settings and is a high end processor; Why would you say that it would cause a slow down?

My mistake, first time I saw your post I thought it said FX 8320. Which when paired with a GTX 1070 is getting bottlenecks in games like Arma 3, GTA V, or other early access games.

FX 8350 has a better clock speed and better potential overclocking. You will be fine using that CPU for quite some time and shouldn't run into any issues.
