New York Bombing

Featured Replies

Want to know why you haven't heard much about it? Because the U.S. media didn't report on it until hours after the attacks happened. The only news outlet that reported on it at all was Fox News.

I'm sure there was a very good reason that the other networks didn't report three terror attacks in the States though.

I heard about it.. Just not as much.

I heard no one died though?

edit: oh wow, I didn't know it was even 3 I thought it was only one attack

You got 1 explosion in NY injuring 29 people (all left hospital in 24h), you got 1 pressure cooker nail bomb found couple blocks away and then 5 pipebombs (of which 1 detonated when being demined by robot) in New Jersey (like what 2h drive from NY?).

The pipebombs were first and were near a military charity run, explosion was in a neighbourhood with alot of nighttime venues, the pressure cooker was likewise in said neighbourhood.

As for the media being silent, haven't heared anything about that, not that many check more then 1 site anyway >_>

They have someone in custody, unsure if all 3 events are related to him. Person is a USA citizen, entered from Pakistan at age 7 (guess he became citizen before 18, no definative), has made several and occational long trips to Pakistan (always got "debriefed", spoke about family and assorted reasons), wife is from Pakistan and left for it couple days prior (she is being searched for, for now just to speak to).

EDIT: does this mean I know more of this then the average US citizen? I hope not...

I'm actually glad we finally caught one of these lone wolf-ish types alive, should help in understanding their motives better. Either way, I hope he gets the chance to ponder his life choices somwhere peaceful and quiet like ADX.

I saw reports on the attack on CNN on Sunday. I live in the greater New York City area and I can tell you no one seems to know which end is up . NYC mayor Deblasio and NY State Governor Cuomo both have given different information about what occurred. We do know that the terrorist is American and that 2 years ago his father told theFBI that he thought his son was a terrorist. Here Is a link to news site that are covering it.

Because the act took place on US soil by an American, this should Fall under FBI jurisdiction. Should it be determined that there are international connections, CIA will take the lead on that part.

I thought you guys might appreciate this amusing satirical article, published in the wake of the recent bombings but actually about the terrorist attacks on 9/11:

WASHINGTON, D.C.—In an effort to help the nation “avoid assuming something that might turn out to be false,” President Barack Obama, in a Tuesday press conference, continued to caution against calling the attacks on the World Trade Center 15 years ago an “act of terrorism” too soon, echoing remarks he has made throughout his time in office.

“I assure you, our best investigators are working through the facts surrounding the attacks that rocked our country on September 11, 2001,” the president said from the White House briefing room, referring to the hijackings and subsequent crashes of commercial airliners into the Pentagon and World Trade Center by terrorist group al-Qaeda which injured and killed thousands a decade and a half ago. “Let’s be patient—let’s not jump to conclusions. Americans are better than that.”

“We realize initial appearances did seem to point in the direction of extremist jihadists being responsible for the senseless violence, in the early years of the investigation,” Obama said further. “But again, we stress that just because the perpetrators were clearly extremist Muslims carrying out a heinous, murderous act in the name of jihad, does not necessarily mean this can be called an act of terrorism.”

The joke article is poorly written, because Obama would NEVER EVER use the term "Extremist Muslim".

I think that's part of the joke. He'd never admit it was a "murderous act in the name of jihad" either. :P

Yea, no idea what's the fuss with it, I'd have no problem using it, even tho I'm a Muslim.

I think what the mainstream media and politicians are doing is objectively criminal and plays right into the hand of both kind of extremists - muslim and far-right alike.

It's that they fail to make one very key distinction:

1, Muslims - Ascribers to the Islamic faith. Some of them hold modern, liberal views, some of them are ultra conservative

2, Islamist - They have a political agenda to promote and ad disseminate Islamic values. The end-goal is always the same: a global, all-encompassing caliphate where all detractors are either dead or subjugated.

The two groups are NOT the same. While I agree with Sam Harris'assessment that Islam itself is "a motherlode of bad ideas" it is up to each individual to live their lives as they see fit, as long as they don't encroach on the liberty of others to do the same. If you want to wear a black tent whenever you step out into the street, be my guest! Worried that a long-dead arabian warlord would disapprove of eating watermelons? Whatever floats your boat, it's your life! Hell, other religions are only marginally (if at all) better.

The problem here is group Number 2. Obviously ISIS belongs here, but they are just one type of Islamist - openly violent, they want to establish the Caliphate through force kind. But there are also smarter guys, one that come to you with a smile, and seek to further Islamic political goals though infiltartion, slowly spreading subversion. These often pose as mediators, ones that want to "mediate" between cultures. The Muslim Brotherhood was one such group up until their not-so-distant exposure. Hell, various governments actuall pay taxpayer money for some of their associates.

This very important distinction should be communicated ON EVERY POSSIBLE CHANNEL. It would be spelled out DAY AND NIGHT by politicians, pundits, the media, muslims, EVERYONE. But we all know this isn't going to happen, Everyone is either too stupid or too dishonest to go this route. And the few that do, are ostacized by both the right and left.
