Autopicking algorithm usually is to take the highest ranked player for which there is an open starting position, then typically pick the highest ranked player that makes a substitute. It fills starting kickers and defenses before substitute position players and gives substitute kickers and defenses that some players would rather stream on a bye week.
But SeaBeeGipson's simulator seems to be the path of least resistance to getting it done.

I favor SBG's solution. We need to enter them as well then begin season soon so we can trade them too. Remember you can trade players as well.
