Anyone else get the chance to see it yet?

This post is for spoilers, I won't write any spoilers in the first post in case you came here by accident, but I want to discuss the aftermath of the movie and how y'all reacted.

It was above average.  Not a great movie, but a fun one.  Way to much action, and almost zero story.  The only time there was story was when thanos would stop kicking someones ass to tell them why he was doing it.  Plus it made zero sense why Thanos didn't just kill everyone instantly.  He would bairly use the power of the stones, it was like he was fighting just to incapacitate the avengers, not kill them.  And I thought the end was terrible and cheap.  Like they had the other movie written first and were like well we have xyz still alive so how do we kill them in this one?  oh we will make them just fade to nothing.  Okay and how do we end the movie?  No clue.  How about we just end it.  Okay cool. 
It didnt really have an ending.  It just went from the big fight to the credits.  Come on marvel

 

Also, its pg13, you can have Samuel L. Jackson finish saying Mother Fucker.

I saw it last night as well. I liked it. I will refrain from posting any spoilers yet just in case but I noted several interesting things and have some thoughts for what they mean for part 2. The one thing I will say though right now is Thor is a bad MF'er.

The Unworthy Thor is one of my favorite storylines and when they brought Stormbreaker out, I got pumped.

I will say, the parts that hit me were when Heimdell died, and when Thanos killed Gamora. Thanos has always been one of my favorite characters, and the switch in the comic book Thanos who only loves death, to this Thanos that has a somewhat compassionate side. It hit me in my feels to see him cry over that.

Plus it made zero sense why Thanos didn't just kill everyone instantly. 

They took a new spin from the comic book version, this version is only worried for balancing the Universe. He could've easily killed the Avengers, but he would've spent centuries trying to slaughter half the entire universe. My biggest complaint was them nerfing the Black Order. Black Dwarf (who apparently goes by Cull Obsidian in the movie) is suppose to have impenetrably skin. Another thing is Corvus is invincible when he has his staff, technically being stabbed by it would still make him invincible as it is touching him. I guess the comic nerd in me is a little irritated with the nerfing of one of my favorite groups, but overall, the movie was great for me.

Yeah i wish Death was in it lol  and how would him slaughtering them mean he has to spend centuries going after the universe?  he could have just done it the same way.  when he was fighting on Titan, why didnt he just kill them all pretty much instantly?  he would have gotten the stones and still been able to balance everything.  the avengers dont need to survive for him to do that.  I hate in movies when a villian is clearly 10000x more powerful than the good guys, the writers give the good guys plot armor and have the villain never actually use the full extent of their power.  it kind of reminded me of Xmen apocalypse, when he pretty much just holds back and ultimately looses, even tho he could have slaughtered them all pretty much instantly

I haven't seen it yet, but I will. I will refrain from reading until I do... but I'm intrigued that so many of them are in this one. Really burned out on super hero movies, but the Guardian's are in it... gotta see it.

I thought it was pretty good. I can't help but to think that the follow up will get real cheesy. It's obvious that after Strange witnessed 14 million possible future results where only one is a win, that it involves the Time Stone and Tony Stark. Stark must live, and he'll use the Time Stone to bring everyone back. This stuff writes itself, but I'll come away screaming "Cheese!"

 

Also... Black Panther is currently the third highest grossing film of all time. He was just turned to dust. Anyone believe he will not return for another movie?

Not to argue the fact that everyone who died will return, but the next black panther might not be him. In the comics he took time off and Shuri (his sister) was the black Panther.

Im sure everyone who was turned to ash will be back, and the other deaths will be permanent

I originally assumed that to be the case but now I'm not so sure that's true. In a recent interview, the Russo brothers said that it was their goal to "break your heart" with Infinity War and that Avengers 4 would "blow your mind". They went on to say that we shouldn't assume that all of the dead would be returning. Now, whether that means that some will return and others won't remains to be seen. I am wondering though if Tony foreshadows Peter Parker's permanent death when he told Peter that he didn't think things through when he boarded the "flying donut" and that it would be a "one way journey".

i hope im wrong because if the next movie just presses a giant reset button, then this one was pretty much pointless.  I also wish they included some of the tv show characters in it.  The punisher fighting the hordes in Wakanda would have been amazing

Comic book universe. Betting on people walking back out the Pearly Revolving Door is usually good one.

Would love to see Punisher and Ghost Rider punch some aliens with the Avengers.

Marvel/Disney has the rights to make X-Men and Fantastic Four movies now, which could also be interesting to see what they do with those.

From what I've read from the director, some characters are not going to be brought back. Example: Heimdall and Loki. I don't know where Gamora falls into this (died before the snap). Nor Vision (though I imagine if Shuri collected enough information, we could see Vision resurrected.)

I'm also interested to see if they'll throw Nova into this mix. Xander was destroyed. In the comics (don't quote me) I tend to recall Nova being introduced after Xander was ransacked. Perfect MCU introduction setting. Especially with Nova Corps and Skrull's history and the Skrull's getting introduced in Captain Marvel. I don't think a giant reset button will happen for everyone, but they'll probably resurrect all that faded, and a select few prior (Could see Gamora and Vision Returning).

I cant imagine them getting rid of spiderman, he is too important and the new movie made too much money. 

 

Here's my prediction for the next movie

Bucky and Falcon are probably going to stay dead or die because they aren't needed and the loss of them would hurt Captain America heavily. They also don't contribute as much as the other normal humans in the avengers such as war machine and Iron man.

 

Scarlet Witch will probably return, and Vision if up in the air. If he stays dead it would be easier for the writers to give her drive and more character development, and since Marvel wants more strong woman heroes in the forefront I can see her being picked over Vision. Plus overall she is a great character and her powers are fun to watch.

 

Black Panther might not come back and they will move his sister in the slot for two reasons. She has already been established as the black panther in the comics so there wont be any nerd rage, and it helps with Disney's/Marvel's goal of being more inclusive in having woman super heroes especially the severe lack of black woman superheroes. With that said they can totally bring him back and have an event where he loses his confidence and has to spend time as not the black panther like the comic books.

 

Doctor strange is coming back. He is a fun character and critical in a lot of story lines that they will use in the future.

 

Star-lord or Gamora is not coming back. Comic books rarely have characters with happy endings. The odds of us having a Van Wilder wedding style movie with the two love birds is most likely not going to happen, which is sad considering how much fun that would be. One will survive and their motivation will be the fact that they lost the other and it will color their character going forward. My money is on Chris Pratt coming back, he is a bigger name and he will fill the seats more than Zoe Saldana who in most her movies she doesn't act that well (looking at you Avatar, Star Trek, and Guardians of the Galaxy).

 

Drax is coming back. Most the laughs in Vol 2 of GotG were him and people absolutely love him, except for the murder blanket but screw him.

 

Murder blanket is coming back, he and Strange will protect the world!!!

 

Mantis might come back, who knows.

 

Groot will probably come back because he is good for cheap laughs and his race is almost gone, I doubt marvel would be okay with killing them all off.

 

Nick Fury and Maria Hill will most likely be back, both characters help with world building and making sure that people are comfortable with the normal people running around instead of having faceless characters. 

 

Loki probably faked his death again as a huge plot to screw over thanny.

 

Heimdall and several Asgardians will probably return in one form or another. When Thor is no longer distracted with saving everyone the great losses he sustained would cripple him and he is too important to die from grief.

 

As for characters that might die in the next movie

 

Steve Rogers, maybe. There is a good chance he will die but it is again a money thing he might live or be brought back right after dead but only to find out that his friends didn't return

 

Tony Stark... Nope he wont ever die

 

Thor HAHAHA, he is suddenly the most interesting and fun character in the MCU. We have him forever

 

Natasha Ramanoff will probably die and it will mess hulk up. Dunno if she will stay dead but I am betting she is at least mostly dead.

 

Banner is strongest avenger, like GREAT FIRE. He gunna live and when they get his rights back we are going to get a planet hulk movie or mini series.

 

Jame Rhodes is going to live. They put him through a lot and I don't see them crippling him just to kill him

 

Rocket is awesome and will live forever, hell most the CGI characters will probably because it is so much easier to deal with voice actors over traditional actors. 

 

Nebula is a toss up, she will either live or die doing a noble sacrifice that will make us forget that she was a singleminded character with the goal of killing someone. Though it would be much more interesting to have her alive and then forced with what she will do now that her one goal in life is gone.

 

Wong will probably live and I hope he does because I really like the actor. He is also needed as someone to give familiarity in the next Doctor Strange movie.

 

Hawkeye will come back and instant kill Thanos, then all the other Avengers will be mad because he didn't do it sooner.
