Hurricane Florence

Featured Replies

As many of you know the hurricane is barreling at the Carolinas. As many of you know I'm in the millitary. I'm currently in North Carolina. The hurricane is predicted to nearly directly hit where I am. It's predicted for us to be on the left side of the eye of the storm. As I'm not in the best financially stable position, I'll be staying on base. There is no word on evacuations where I am. We are ok on food and have a crazy plan for water. (mainly filling all our glasses with tap water). My activity may be spotty if not loss internet, power, water, ect. (Doesn't help that my new bank card is still in the mail. ) It now a category 4 storm, 150 mph. Just a heads up.

Hopefully it doesnt hit you too hard.  My brother is expected to be hit by it as well.  He is right on the coast, so he is stocking up supplies

Good luck to you sir, hoping it weakens before it makes landfall and minimize the damage as much as possible.  We're expecting some of the wind/rain where I'm at from it, but not near what the Carolinas and so forth are going to be dealing with.   Hoping the best for anyone in it's path

You will be fine, barring a location near a neglected levy or flood zone. I believe our military is well equipped to weather the worst. If it's bad in your area, you may be needed to help the civilian population, where I know you will heed the call. Good luck my friend, and we're here for you... you know that. I always thought you lived in Denver, where my daughter lives. Bet you wish you were there now. :)

Edit: Forgot to say it... Thank you for your service!

Seeing as the hurricane is predicted to surplace over the state(s) for ceveral days and make it monsoon-days, stay clear of possible flooding aswell!

Makes me wonder if that +1m evacuees will be kept away from the coast/rivers for several days after the worst hit as all that water will want to the sea. So brewers, your brother has 3 hazards: storm surge, hurricane itself, possible flooding afterwards!

Stay safe!

I live on the coast of South Carolina, currently just outside of the projected path. Governor McMaster also lifted the mandatory evacuation earlier today for Beaufort/Jasper County (where i live), so looks like i'll be sticking around. Be safe Robert!

Hopefully this thing drastically falls apart the moment in makes landfall. Its going to be one long cleanup in the coming future if it doesn't. First responders will be swamped and overwhelmed, if they didn't flee and evacuate with their families. Stock up on extra food, water, medicine, and other needed supplies. I imagine most of the supermarkets, gas stations, and hardware stores are mobbed by last minute shoppers. Get what you can now before the shelves are bare!

I wish all of you who live on that part of the East Coast the best! Stay safe from the storm and the subsequent looters who chose not to prepare or want to steal expensive things.

We all have heard the chaotic aftermath of Hurricane Katrina. And I listened to many radio transmissions/Zello during the Texas Cajun Navy. I got to personally hear some really messed up stuff that was going on in real time. Alleged 'food delivery drivers' pretending to be Army Soldiers asking for spare parts to fix their vehicles, so they could delivery supplies into Houston. A suicidal man armed with a shotgun threatening to harm himself or other people if anyone came to rescue him in his flooded home, causing a huge diversion of emergency responders and a negotiation police team had to be brought in. And looters that were sneaking around outside of the designated curfew, thankfully looting was kept to a minimum during daytime as almost every civilian operating under the Cajun Navy banner was armed. People running out of medications and becoming incoherent was another repetitive problem.

So if the past is any indication, getting through the storm is just the beginning. Its what comes immediately after is the hard part.

They have a lot of rain to deal with. It broke up quick, and the slow roller is just pouring water all over. Floods cause water damage, and insurance will be the key to rapid recovery. Hard to understand why the media is still over-hyping this storm. It's like they wanted it to kill hundreds and destroy the Carolina's. This is the very definition of fake news, and it's The Weather Channel. It's obvious we can't even trust those guys to tell the truth.

Got a good laugh out of that video.

I know someone who lives in Raleigh and they are just getting rain. Thankfully this Hurricane collapsed so quickly so all that really had to be dealt with now is flooding.
