The Elections 2020 Thread

I have a guess, but let me ask why you oppose the minimum wage.

I'm a Capitalist, so I'm against any limitations on wages. If I run a business and need something done, and I can afford to pay someone to do it for $7.00 an hour, and someone is willing to do it for $7.00 an hour, then they should be able to take my money.

But, things being the way they are... every state has their own minimum wage already. Every state has a different economy. It costs more to live in San Francisco California than it does in Fargo North Dakota. We don't need a Federal minimum wage, but we have one anyway. So, in my opinion, it should be the lowest common denominator. There are many things that our Federal Government should stay out of, and this is one of them.

I have had my own business for over 20 years, and I have never employed anyone... even though I could. I absolutely refuse to involve myself in anything regulated by government, any more than I already have to. So yes... minimum wages hurt people.

Well, $15 an hour is pretty meager no matter where in the country.

There are many jobs that could be done that are not worth paying someone $15 an hour to do. There are many people that need the money, that because of a $15 an hour mandate, will never have the opportunity to have that job. Raising the Federal minimum wage always results in destroying the jobs available to the lowest income bracket... because it's not worth it to employ them.

And the tax code can be tweaked so that businesses are compensated properly in the end.

Are you kidding me? There is nothing that the Federal Government can offer me, that I as an employer, would trust that they would keep their word. Ask anyone who has ever trusted the US Government with anything.

The only thing we can ever hope for is that they don't make it worse.

Lets ignore the rest of the Western World's economy doing fine with higher minimum wage and stricter labor laws.

heck even ignore that, the very notion that "if someone wants to take that 7$/h job, they should be able to do so" is a massive falacy when you know those jobs are either filled by (illegal) immigrants or by people doing multiple 7$/h jobs.

Did the US economy keel over and die the last few times the minimum wage was increased?

I don't want to start a new thread about China, so I'll use this one.

I even have a favorite Progressive. Favorite because he sometimes makes a lot of sense. Sometimes he makes such a good argument that it makes me angry, because he's very effective at times. This is one of those times.

Well yeah, thats what an Authoritarian regime does. You do recall the few examples of not-so-nice-China he mentioned at the start right? And while americans are chained to their credit score, chinese are chained to their social credit score. Enjoy neither but feel the burndens they give.

PS. Yen is Japan...

LOL!  That's so funny.  I always laugh at those bloody idiots.  Last February 14, I had a med appointment downtown and wandered into  the middle of an Extinction Rebellion "Protest", or as I like to call it Temper Tantrum.  I don't know what the hell they were screaming about, something about oil, water rights, environmental protection, capitalism, or the police.  Whatever was pissing them off at that particular second.

Yet, iPhones were ubiquitous.

I like what Rex Murphy said, to loosely quote "have they ever bothered to research how resource intensive the manufacture of those things are?"

Thanks for the laugh Hack... here's the new one today, and the reason I left California 24 years ago.

YouTube will probably kill this video soon because it doesn't fit their agenda.

Sweet Jesus!

Hope she loses her job.

Kudos to that cop.  I don't know how he maintained his sense of professionalism.

Oh, I got my first dose of the Moderna vaccine two days ago.   In case you're curious, the 5G reception is amazing!

I don't understand what the issue is with having to present valid ID when you vote.  I was able to vote in 1994.  The first time casting my ballot was in the 1996 Newfoundland Provincial Election.  I've voted in every single election since then, and every time I've had to show my driver's license.  There were a few times, I wasn't on the voters list and had to be enrolled at the Polling Station.  All I had to do then, was present a bill and my license.  If you don't have a license,  most states/provinces will issue you a simple ID card that has all the same information as a driver's licence.

Why do these people seem to have a problem with ensuring that only people who are legally able to vote are the ones who vote?

Does Boris seriously want to lose his re-election? Trying to get Brits to carry ID is like taking guns from Americans...

That said, while many to nearly all nations have ID requirements when voting, trying to implement them on sketchy reasons at best just shows you got ulterior motives. Neither the US nor UK has any issue with voter fraud, even less when it is about voting when not allowed (both are very lose on who gets to vote).

That said, hows Arizona's Ninja recount going, found any bamboo yet? :D

We have been fighting over it since they came up with the phrase "Vote Early... and Often"

The current excuse for the past decades is that black people are too stupid and poor to get an ID.

It's the most condescending and racist argument possible. I hate Progressives more and more every day.

The reason is to ensure a legitimate election... there is nothing "sketchy" about it.

I last heard they are trying to keep router information secret, after the court ordered it turned over to them.

I have a feeling they are finding a lot of things... and trouble will follow.

Dig deep enough and you find the skulls... ask Bill Gates.

Well, who didn't see this coming?

Destroying evidence. How could they possibly believe they could get away with it?

They must be finding nasty things if they are expanding the audit to all races.

I spent my first day in over a year... all over Las Vegas... without a stupid mask on my face. It was amazing.

I think issuing every citizen an IDs is a very reasonable thing to do. BUT in this case, the process need to be free, accessible and mandatory.

It works well in Portugal apparently. I'm not against voter ID, but for it to be a requirement it should be the accepted norm to carry ID, and there should be cheap readily available government backed ID for those who can't carry a drivers licence but still able to vote and don't want to be lugging a passport around. I'm thinking something which can be issued in the $20 - £20 range. Essentially similar to a driving licence, name, pic, DOB and address. Would be great when you're newly 18 on a night out but not yet driving, or if you're disabled and unable to drive but need ID to do things like vote or open a bank account.

I don't know what the system in Portugal is exactly, but in Hungary you have 3 options for identification - which is pretty much a requirement for any kind of administrative action from opening a bank account to voting.

- Passport

- Driver's license

- Citizen ID Card

It is mandatory for every citizen to have a Citizen ID Card, and you are obligated to carry one of the 3 on you at all times. They issue ID cards for a duration of about 5-10-15 years (depending on the age group), and it is completely free of charge. All one needs to do is to show up at a state administrative office and go through a 5 minute process. It's actually a system that works really well :)

.

Does this mean that ANY former elections weren't legitimate? Also the ones the Republicans won? :D

Either find something that actually mattered and significantly changed the outcome (and lets ignore the mostly R-sided voter fraud...) or state that all previous elections are up for grabs as clearly you folks have been doing it wrong for decaded!

And they backtracked that faster and QUIETER when they actually got informed they were idiots and only cloned half of a RAID partition on the election servers...

Very Cyber, so ninja.

While no European (and many other nations around the globe, just not to up-to-date on who has or hasn't got them) would shirk at mandatory ID, the anglosphere has a somewhat adverse reaction to such "demand". In the same way that I keep to a "evolution before revolution" idea like not demanding full gun control in the USA, I also wouldn't suggest them to go full mandatory ID.

The hoops they make people go thruw to get "accepted" ID is another ballpark. Nearly anything is accepted on a financial level (for a loan for example) but if you wanna vote? Good luck finding the 1 piece they do accept! Also please sign some notary documents you should have filed months ago...

To me it reads like keeping up the money train they got going for them. Kinda like how Trump keeps asking for legal defense $$ which he keeps funneling to himself...

Grifters, they have found a willing party to align itself with.
