The Elections 2020 Thread

While the topic of the day is of course COVID-19, the 2020 US presidential elections are fast approaching. I've created a topic to discuss anything related to that, and to update as events unfold.

So, it's still early days, what are everyone's thoughts? What topic will dominate the discussions? (IMO: the Economy and jobs, all the way) Who will be Biden's VP nominee? (My guess: Amy Klobuchar) Will the elections be close? (IMO: Incredibly, Biden is a much more palatable candidate for many than Hillary Clinton), etc.

Also, KEEP IT RESPECTFUL. The point is not to win a debate, but to share your point of view.

I don't listen to these people... why would you?

Some angry people took an hour and crashed the people's house to break some glass. It appears that some other angry people want to equate that with a year of destruction and murder that took place in just about every major city in the USA. It still continues to this very day. Before the election, every major city in the USA boarded up their business fronts to mitigate the damage out of fear of the outcome of that election. They voted for Donald Trump, and they feared what those idiots would do to them after his reelection.

Even on the other side of the world, a blind man could see who the aggressors are.

The BLM protests, which escalated to riots in many cases (for various reasons), were about police killings of black Americans on a disproportionate scale which has been getting swept under the rug for years. You need no better proof of the disproportionate scale with which this country reacts to its black citizens then the Capitol insurrection. BLM protests in DC were met with an army of riot police and national guard. They knew the insurrection was going to happen that day, they had plenty of warning, and they chose not to deploy anything near enough forces to deal with it. Instead there is video of evidence of far too few capitol police having to abandon positions in the face of the mob advancing on them.

Also a little food for thought about the members of congress as well as Trump who inspired the insurrection with their words and actions.

I really don't think you will like my opinion

You want to walk the street with a sign, or hold a rally to voice a cause... that's cool.

You want to block streets, paint the walls, tear down monuments, break glass, loot stores, burn cars and buildings, beat, torment, and kill people... you should be put down by any means necessary.

I don't care what color you are... you want to be a criminal, the police are taking you to jail.

If you do not comply, you are asking them to harm you, and even kill you. I'm not happy at all about how any of this has been handled.

I don't agree with many of the things that happened during the BLM protests. However just saying that if you don't comply you are asking them to potentially kill you doesn't mesh with our countries history. There are plenty of examples of black people complying and ending up dead anyway. In which case the incidents become fight for flight for many black Americans.

Perhaps I was mistaken because you mentioned it in vague terms, but my understanding was that you were belittling the significance of what happened in the Capitol by comparing its duration with the BLM protests. That or that you were just throwing out randomly that some people are doing that.

Police kill people all the time. They carry guns because they are charged to confront the most dangerous people that breathe air. The fashionable thing to do these days is video everything, and then post an edited version of events to spark the most outrage. Post up the right video so we get a crowd of screaming, crying black people to make a martyr out of a criminal. Then all the criminals get to use it as an excuse to destroy lives. They should be shot in the face. Democrats used it to destabilize the country... because they hate Trump.

So yeah... I'm numb about the outrage over the Capitol crash... after seeing what they did to the entire country this past year.

Then all the criminals get to use it as an excuse to destroy lives. They should be shot in the face.

This is why ANTIFA and BLM don't come to the suburbs. They know they can get away with burning businesses in Democrat run cities.

But I don't know a single person who would stand by and watch thugs torch their home and let their family burn to death.

I think there is a fundamental misunderstanding going on there but your mind is made up and that isn't the topic at hand so there's no sense trying to rehash.

I'd say the biggest difference was that there was a literal stated intent of overthrowing the lawfully elected government of the country (literally hang elected officials they didn't agree with including pence).

That sounds over the top, but the way DC is acting this week, they do appear to be a little bit unsure of their own position. They call the National Guard in to protect them, but now they're not sure the National Guard are really there to protect them. Nobody cares about this inauguration, and the left loves the political attention they get from the abhorrent practice of selective outrage. *yawn*

Libertarians living on an island...

Libertarians living happily on an island... leaving everyone alone.

Had to finish that for you.

/whoosh

anyway, in light of "unity" you should clearly swipe those BLM protests under the rug :D

unity comes from both sides usually, I don't see that happening in good faith from the GOP currently...

70k jobs? I guess you mean Keystone XL. Why you care about such a insignificant number, cause clearly anything under 400k is nothing.

unity comes from both sides usually, I don't see that happening in good faith from the GOP currently...

My point exactly. Naturally after the last 4 years of blissful bipartisan cooperation... it's just selfish Republican arrogance that deprive the USA from the bounty of an everlasting socialist utopia. I henceforth surrender my firearms, condemn my flag, erase our history, banish all thought of free speech, open our borders, release the criminals, recognize my privilege, forfeit my wealth, change my gender, and bow at the alter of Climate Change. Yeah... we're all into that "unity" thing.

Joe Biden has made a fatal error. He showed his hand to the entire country with a flurry of Executive Orders. Now the lines are clearly drawn, and the wagons are circled. Any hope of Congress getting anything done has been utterly destroyed.

*decries Democrats first few weeks*

*forgot Repubicans entire 4 years*

*nothing changes*

Not "decrying" anything. Congress has been at total war since Ronald Reagan. It's delusional to believe it will get better. We can only hope for civility. The one thing that has not changed is the Belgian vote. It's still as irrelevant as it always has been.

Civility coming from the party advocating tossing votes and electoral college results, the party harboring individuals gloryfying what happended on january 6th, the party currently asking for civility from the opposition who always gave it but never got it in return.

Purge Q-Anon believers and folks can start talking about bi-partisanship.

Purge Q-Anon believers and folks can start talking about bi-partisanship

I don't even know what Q-Anon believers believe.

If you are asking me if I believe the election was rigged... yes, I believe it was. I would like to see an audit so it doesn't happen again, but we can't even get any of the people that framed the president a harsher punishment than probation, so I don't believe we'll be auditing anything. I will be doing the same thing I did under Obama... say no to everything. That is the most civil I can be. Democrats always overreach... they're overreaching now. The cycle continues.

You will continue to sit over there and criticize everything that happens over here. That's all you can do.

Most Q-Anon don't belief either, they feel. Thats the issue with cults usually, it is the heart that has moved unreachable to the mind.

Anyway, your second paragraph is part of the basis of Q-Anon thinking, so good luck stating you are removed of them...

Meanwhile, lovely stuff comes out about january 6th.

It's amazing that a lone internet troll from Belgium knows more about Q-Anon... what they believe... how they feel... than I know about them myself, and I live here.

Me, my wife, all my children, everyone else I know, and about 70 million other American Citizens, believe the election was rigged... so according to your vast understanding of Americans, we're all followers of Q-Anon. It's just a big massive mega-cult? It's not important for us to audit our election? I don't know for sure, but I don't think boxing people up into Q-Anon is the best way to deal with it.

ha me trolling, thats rich. And sorry that I take interest in certain world affairs and even more on the very public US 2020 Election. perhaps you are equally surprised by the military coup in Myanmar?

Not all Trump voters belief in that rigging, but you certainly seem to do. Of the few places that did get an audit (btw, Georgia got auditted twice!), nothing earth-moving was found, atleast for the Presidential election. The only wishy-wasy one is the NY 22nd district US House election, whic isn't yet been called last I checked.

You are on the fringe of Q-Anon, a fringe of any cult is something which many people are in 1 part of their life, I am merely noting you are spouting the same delusions of "fakeness" that permeates their entire thought process.

ha me trolling, thats rich.

The only time you ever post here is to trash everything I say. You wait for me to post something, then you criticize it. It's not sharing your opinion to generate a conversation... it's a targeted negative attack... every time. You can't bring yourself to ever even say that I offer a good point. So yes... you are my very own personal troll.

Let's test this out...

I believe Democrats are manufacturing a Climate Change crisis to advance their Socialist global agenda.

Ready... Set... Go!

yeah I am largly reactionary here, mostly cause I am terrible at striking a conversation or finding a topic people would like here. Me replying mostly to you just so happens cause you mostly reply to me (or post in general). And it isn't like I disagree on you with everything.

and also, who's trolling now? :D

Okay, I'm just gonna say it... I really enjoy our conversations. Without you, I fear my time here would be a lot less entertaining.

You challenge my mind, and I love that about you. So yeah... I'm the troll this time.

P.S.: I've had a really good night at the casino, and too many drinks... LOL!

P.S.S.: But Amazon delivered the CD I ordered to my next door neighbor, and they won't hand it over... my guess is they are Progressives.

  • 4 weeks later...

This is really rare... I'm proud of a Democrat today.

Senator Kyrsten Sinema of Arizona pulled a John McCain move against the Progressives today, with a giant thumb down sign. It was the most memorable "No" vote against the disastrous socialist $15 dollar per hour minimum wage proposal. It went down easily with a 42-58 vote in the Senate, but she looks like one of my daughters casting that vote. I'm impressed!

Arizona Senator Kyrsten Sinema Votes Against $15 Minimum Wage Effort - YouTube

I have a guess, but let me ask why you oppose the minimum wage.

I'm a Capitalist, so I'm against any limitations on wages. If I run a business and need something done, and I can afford to pay someone to do it for $7.00 an hour, and someone is willing to do it for $7.00 an hour, then they should be able to take my money.

But, things being the way they are... every state has their own minimum wage already. Every state has a different economy. It costs more to live in San Francisco California than it does in Fargo North Dakota. We don't need a Federal minimum wage, but we have one anyway. So, in my opinion, it should be the lowest common denominator. There are many things that our Federal Government should stay out of, and this is one of them.

I have had my own business for over 20 years, and I have never employed anyone... even though I could. I absolutely refuse to involve myself in anything regulated by government, any more than I already have to. So yes... minimum wages hurt people.
