The Coronavirus
Thanks for that info DM, stay safe and healthy out there! This is a well observed phenomenon with people livng in poverty, they don’t usually spend, because they have no money, and when they get their social benefits they immediately overspend. It’s a lack fof basic financial understanding, that is widespread.

The Coronavirus
I have a sneaking suspicion my wife any I MAY have gone through it an one point sometime between December and today with fairly mild symptoms. We can't be sure, I guess we'll never know.

The Coronavirus
Not much is happening here. We’ve transitioned to online operations, which are going OK. It’s a good thing that I was pushing HARD for the modernization of our IT infrastructure, in the previous years, otherwise we’d be royally screwed now. We’re playing the waiting game. I go to the store every Monday to buy a reasonable amount of groceries, and otherwise we’re staying home.

Doom Eternal
Man, this game is so awesome! Anyone else have it? I'd love to play Battlemode with some familiar faces.

A formal introduction - Bare Witness
Hey Witness, welcome to our community, I hope you'll like it here. I'm happy to get a fresh perspective to freshen up our political discussions, which have grown kind of stale as of late, since we all know each others' positions anyway.

The Coronavirus
I've seen people younger and fitter than me experiencing significant pulmonary haemorrhage and myocarditis from this. There's a good chance neither will come of the ventilator. They are both young than you are too. This virus is going to give them a miserable death. I am also well aware my own personal risk is likely higher due to working in a high risk area and disease severity correlating with initial viral load. Well, I am not trying to trivialize the disease, and yes, it CAN be dangerous. But then you have to wonder whether sending the world economy into lockdown, with potentially hundreds of millions of people losing their jobs worldwide and a tsunami of bankruptcy of entire economic sectors is worth it. The problem with flattening the curve is that you have to enforce the emergency measures for a long, long, LONG time, and once you uplift them, the disease might just return like you hadn't even done anything. If we're just delaying the inevitable, then why do it?

The Coronavirus
A little perspective. As I said, I'm not terribly worried about the virus itself, but rather the devastating effects all the safety have on the economy https://www.visualcapitalist.com/history-of-pandemics-deadliest/

The Coronavirus
I’m working from home, about the same amount as before. We usually have various meetings once or twice a week, which we have cancelled at first, but now we’re slowly moving them online to MS Teams. I’m fairly well supplied with a backlog of games, I’ve played: - Yes, Your Grace (narrative indie game) - A Plague Tale: Innocence (vary topical, lol) And of course - DOOM ETERNAL WHICH IS AMAZING

Disney predicts Corona virus in 2010
DAMN Now all I need to know is how the Deep State factors into all this.

The Coronavirus
Yeah. My wife and I are lucky to enjoy a fairly comfortable economic situation, and so far, we're not AS impacted as some other sectors. However as the entire economy freezes, things might change, and I hope it won't come to that. Hang in there guys! The Coronavirus
For now. But it'll be worse, for sure.

The Coronavirus
I guess we'll see. I also hope that once the pandemic is over with, the economy will bound back, since this wasn't caused by an endemic problem, but an outside factor. Who knows, maybe we're even better off in the long run, as everyone from governments to investors were already talking about a looming crisis that would eventually arrive. Maybe this event will serve as a pressure valve for those fears, and we can get back to growth once this blows over. Here's hoping at least.

The Coronavirus
I am getting worried. Not because of the virus, but rather the economic effects: https://www.visualcapitalist.com/the-pandemic-economy-which-stocks-are-weathering-the-storm/ It's too early to say how bad it will be, but hopefully we can avoid a repeat of the 2008 recession.

The Coronavirus
Thanks for the perspective Blade, it’s much appreciated. Yeah, I read somwhere that the “good” news is that Covid-19 is fairly compatible with the human body. But what does that mean? Well, keep in mind two things: Virii CANNOT survive in the open evironment for too long, they need a host simply to exist. Also their reproduction is parasitic, which in optimal circumstances, means they don’t strain their hosts too much and thus remain infectuous for a long time, going around and around in a population. The flu is a perfect example. The number of carriers rise and drop with the seasons, but there is always a number of people carrying it, because the symptoms are generally mild enough (cough, runny nose, etc) to not prohibit the infected person from spreading it far and wide. In short, mild symptoms, high penetration. Now, if a virus is incompatible with the human body, that either means it cannot infect human cells, or causes nasty symptoms and a high death ratio (MERS, Ebola, etc). In these severe cases, the virus is unlikely to spread very far, as the hosts come down quickly, and get little chance to infect others. Severe symptoms and low penetration. As Covid-19 is the former case, it has been theorized that containment is futile, and By the end of the year 50-70% of the world population will have caught it (with most people never realizing it) and it will become part of the usual flu roster that Blade has mentioned
