The start of the reunion is closing in. If you want to come, you'll have to leave your house soon. (I'll close the sign ups in about 36 hours)

You wake up excited as today is your annual high school reunion. You have been having these reunions with some of your former class mates for a few years now and you've always had a great time. Well, last year's end was a bit ugly. Some people drank a little too much and decided that an old high school feud was worth fighting over. No one got hurt too bad, but still now that you think about it some more, these small fights have been happening since the beginning, getting more intensive every year. Anyway, the reunion starts in a few hours and you need to make a decision now. Will you go and meet some old friends, or do you prefer the safety of your own house? OC: This will be a game that is a bit different from your regular vanilla mafia game. If you would rather play a regular game just say so and I'll go with the majority. There is no fixed number of players I need, as I think I can make it work with any number. Though the more players we get, the more exciting it will be http://www.iron-command.com/forum/public/style_emoticons/default/wink.gif. 1. Ccabal86 2. Curufinwe 3. Theophilos 4. Nerau 5. Kasabian 6. 4. Ok, I'll open sign ups now.
  5. Thanks, I still need to write part of it out, I'll do that this weekend and then sent you a message. The balancing will also partly depend on the number of people signing up.
  6. Sometimes there is a game where you just can't seem to get it right. I particularly remember a mafia vs werewolves game here where I lead the town to three or four consecutive townies lynches. That being said, I am happy with my reads throughout this game but a little dissapointed in my persuasive ability. Especially the quick lynch was disappointing. Why did the townies feel the need to quickly vote there? Also, I wouldn't mind modding a game. Would you prefer a relatively vanilla game or something a bit different? I actually still have something related to mole's last plane crash mafia that I want to try out. But since I haven't tried it before, the balance may not be perfect.
  7. First of all, well played. I think you have improved greatly since the last time we played together. You had some highly valuable posts and of course you made a great decision to take out Alasdair. Overal, I'd say the calmer style makes you a much better player. Of course it is easier to stay calm if you don't catch any flack . I'd like to echo CD's question though. Why Alas? After the Kasa lynch, I was convinced that the scum were 3 out of CH, Ccabal, Nerau and Alas. CH was, of course, confirmed and out of the others, I would have picked Ccabal and Nerau over Alas. Not by much, but they were slightly higher on my scum radar. What made you go for Alas?
  8. Ah well, it shouldn't really matter in the end.
  9. Please that are enough votes for CH for now. We need a debate, not a quick lynch. Yes he is scum, but he will still be scum when we are closer to the deadline.
  10. It is, but there is no reason to rush towards a lynch. We can use the time to try to determine who the other scum is.
  11. What gives you the idea that it is molestargazer?
  12. Yeah right, you will not avoid a lynch again. However, we need some time to discuss, so I am not voting yet. What is interesting is that a mafia player got killed as well. That seems to point towards either a SK or a vigilante. Alas was in my 3 scum team (CH-Ccabal-Alas), but he was the least certain of the three (Nerau was a real possibility as well, maybe still is). So I wonder, why would the vigilante have taken him out instead of CH? Maybe we are looking at a SK instead. But there is very little we can do against that, so I suggest we focus on eliminating the mafia first and then we'll see what we do about the (possible) SK after. CH is scum without a doubt, both Ccabal and Nerau seemed really likely mafia yesterday as well. If I had to chose I'd say Ccabal but I'd like to know everyone else's thoughts. I am convinced that all other players are not part of the mafia. They may be the SK, but not mafia.
  13. I forgot to unvote: unvote vote ChaosHawk
  14. I have seen enough as well. It seems like the no lynch is not going to happen. I'd rather keep Kasabian alive for at least another night, so: vote ChaosHawk Either way we gain plenty information.
  15. I won't know if Kasabian is not the doc. The mafia has a little more information, so they may still know. Which is another part of the reason I for a moment suggested a cop roleclaim, to even out the information between us. The thing is though, that it seems like I was the only one to read some comments a certain way. I would have to go back and reread the last few pages to see if my initial feeling is right, but I won't have enough time before Saturday.
  16. IF Kasabian is our doc, then I believe so yes.
  17. And we'll have a dead cop by the morning. It's a rather important side effect.
  18. I think you're putting a little too much trust into that part. The winning % was more or less known to everybody after I explained why I picked p.3 for KevinH's hint. @KevinH not necessarily. If we lynch Kasabian and he turns out to be scum, I'm sure they'll kill CH tonight and vice versa. The more interesting choice comes when we go for a no lynch. Then I believe they are still forced to take out our doc or risk our cop roaming free at nights. But they may decide that giving away which of CH/Kasa is the doc put them at a too great disadvantage and kill one of us/CD. I'm still inclined to force the scum to make the difficult decision for us.
  19. Yes, the most likely scenario has Kasa as mafia and mole as a likely scumbuddy. However, let's for a moment assume that is indeed the case. What would we lose by forcing the scum to NK CH before we lynch Kasa? We would lose very little, only the ability to go no lynch without losing a day further on in the game. However, if instead CH is the scum, we would be lynching our doc and leaving our cop open to be NK'ed tonight. That seems like some serious downside to me. I do admit that it is perhaps not the best strategy to get the cop to roleclaim, especially considering the possibility of a roleblocker. That suggestion was mainly born from the desire to prevent us from lynching our cop and also to avoid a Lylo situation where we suddenly have someone counter claiming cop. In any case, I don't think the scenario is as black and white as you make it out to be. Yes, it seems foolish for CH to falsely claim doc at that point. However, it seems almost equally foolish of him to rightfully claim doc. Had he been killed at some point in the game, we would have known that Kasa was scum. Had we at any point in the game come close to lynching him or the person he protected on D1, he could have claimed and we would have been able to lynch Kasa. However, at this point that claim was unnecessary and thus exposed a pro town role without too much in return. Anyway, it's just a combination of a lot of small things that make me unconvinced that Kasa is definitely scum. For example, his claimed target makes perfect sense. It was the target I would have protected. So I would be a little surprised to learn that Kasa did understand that he was the perfect target, but did not go ahead and night kill him. Unless of course they are scum together, but I think that is the scenario that should concern us the least. In that case we have already identified two scum and are well on our way to winning this game, no matter how we play it.
  20. Well, I hadn't really considered a roleblocker. So if the cop is someone else as the one who has been hinting cop, perhaps it would be better for the cop to lay low, though it is far from certain that we have a roleblocker imo. I certainly wouldn't say the majority of mafia's have a roleblocker. Flavor wise I'm also having some trouble coming up with a roleblocking platoon, though that obviously will not have affected the mods decision. Anyway, there may be a roleblocker, but there may not be. If we let both docs live, we'll find out tomorrow whether or not there was one. In any case, gambling on which doc speaks the truth seems unnecessary at this point. If they have a roleblocker and block the doc instead of killing him, we will go to an odd number of players and we will get to chose between the two docs tomorrow, with more battlefield information and without losing a lynch. If we gamble wrong today, we may unnecessarily lose the cop one day early. Especially if it turns out there was no roleblocker. I'm not seeing the advantage to taking a guess ourselves, when there is a good chance we can force the mafia to move first and reveal who was speaking the truth.
  21. I forgot to add. The cop should wait at least a little with claiming until more people have posted their support. On top of this, I would like the one who has been hinting to confirm before someone else claims. I don't want any backtracking after possibly the real cop comes out. Also, unvote vote no lynch
  22. Ok, interesting situation, two doc claims. So either Kasabian or Chaoshawk is scum. Now, on the one hand, you would say it makes sense to lynch Kasabian and trust Chaoshawk. Simply because there was no obvious reason for Chaoshawk to claim at that point. He would just get himself killed if Kasabian is the doc. However, claiming doc for Kasabian was equally foolish if he is not the doc. As I explained before, there simply had to be a doc. So he knew that sooner or later he would be found out. Of course, Kasabian was cornered, so in that regard you could say that he had no choice. The interesting thing, however, is that the same more or less holds true for Chaoshawk. With Kasabian and mole being cleared by Kasabian's roleclaim, all combinations that we had left featured Chaoshawk as scum. So he would have inevitably been lynched today or tomorrow. Perhaps he saw this coming and decided to at least make the town take out our doc in the process. There is something interesting in the post where Chaoshawk claims doc: Why is that bolded phrase in there? Sure I absolutely agree, one of the things I found a little suspicious on the last few pages was people using exact post counts to prove which combination of scum was possible. As was discussed before, we could very well be off by one or two posts. What it should have been used for, was to determine if any of the top posters was scum. With a clear battlefield advantage to the town, it is fairly obvious that at most one of the top 3 posters was scum. That is something we can use, using exact combinations seems a little premature at this point However, that is not why I wanted to draw your attention to that line. If he really was concerned about this, he could have expressed so before. However, he waited until his roleclaim to do so. Obviously, he felt he needed some credibility before trying to convince the townies that these exact combinations are not the way to go. Now the question is, if he is the doc, would he really be worried about that at that point? If Chaoshawk is the doc, Kasabian is scum and, at least on the surface, it looks likely that mole is too. So if the next two lynches are set, what do the exact combinations matter? It looks like he knows he will get caught in a lie and wants us to change our mind about these combinations, so as to give his scum buddies a chance. So does this mean that I want to lynch Chaoshawk? No, not necessarily, however, I would also prefer to keep Kasabian alive at this point. In fact, I am going to suggest two things that I would both find scummy in almost any other circumstance. I am going to ask for a cop claim and propose another no lynch. I'll start with the cop claim, we have one person who has dropped a ton of hints by now and while he seems hesitant to come out and flat out claim, I'm sure the scum has caught on by now. If he is not scum himself that is. So for him to come out and claim wouldn't really change much. However, if he is scum, then most likely we have someone else who is the real cop. Now normally, I wouldn't like to draw out the cop, but in this scenario I think it would work. The first, and most important, reason is that it would directly lead us to two scum. Sure, we would not know which one is scum. But the scum would be forced to kill the doc and the next night the cop or otherwise face an increasing pool of cleared townies. So the scum will have to make the first move, after which we can get rid of the two scum that have been exposed. This is also why I am suggesting the no lynch. If we chose wrong and lynch our doc, the cop dies tonight. If we no lynch, we force the scum to reveal their hand and at the same time we allow the cop to get one final investigation off. One final investigation in addition to netting us two scum I might add. Of course, the one who has been hinting at cop could really be the cop, but in that case he has already been more or less exposed. In that case the gameplan doesn't change. We force the scum to take out the real doc and we lynch the fake claim the next day. In this case it only nets us one scum and one investigation, but it beats the alternative of risking the lynch of our doc and losing the cop without an additional investigation. The fact that we are still with an even number of players makes the no lynch work out even better, since we won't lose a day.
  23. For a moment assuming that Kasabian is lying, I would hope our doc has more sense than to counterclaim. Should the real doc die somewhere in the process, we can then proceed to lynch Kasabian. No reason to sacrifice himself tonight. Anyway, assuming the scum didn't set up this claim pretty brilliantly, I'm going to believe him. There is a doc, so the claim is far too dangerous otherwise. unvote. So back to scum hunting. There are/were some interesting things going on, so I'm not going to meddle too much at this point. But I will bring forth a new lynch target. vote Nerau He was not trying to hint he was the doc, that was a clear claim. Anyway, I especially didn't like the tentative choice you made. Sure you agreed with what the town was about to do (lynch our doc) but you were not willing to commit. Sounds a little convenient too me. Especially considering Kasabian just claimed doc and you still thought him the better choice for a lynch target.
  24. My vote is already on mole, so obviously I agree with KevinH. On top of this, both mole and Kasabian are the two most likely scum suspects at this time. Therefore, the option where lynching one as scum confirms the other as scum is highly attractive. And as KevinH noted, even if we turn out to be wrong about mole, it would still lead us to a scum. So it really is a win/win scenario as I would sacrifice a townie to find a scum any time (except Lylo obviously).
  25. With mole dead, we would have also been able to clear you and CD. So the no lynch did not help in that regard. In fact, since I am still convinced mole is scum, lynching him would have given us a far larger battlefield advantage and would have really gone a long way to identifying the scum. But even without all the battlefield theories, I'm convinced mole is scum. So we should lynch him today and not tomorrow.
