Does he have a job? He might be mocking you beecause its that or admit to himself his life is sucky. He does have a job, and actually one quite similar to mine. I think he is upset that I'm moving up in mine whereas he's not experienced any recognition or advancement. I'll do one potentially better. I was visiting a friend who lives in such a place because it is fairly cheap, and while we were having waffles on the balcony on Sunday morning, two girls in another unit came out on their balcony, sat down with a can of beer each and began discussing the STD test results they had gotten back ... one had received a clean bill, the other shared to whoever was listening that she had chlamydia, but was going to pick up her antibiotic prescription the next day. My friend was unsurprising by this; he's become immune to the classless antics of his neighbors I think.

This Ben Franklin quote from Feb 1775 seems apt: "They who can give up essential liberty to obtain a little temporary safety, deserve neither liberty nor safety."

Apparently one of my apartment-mates has decided he doesn't like how much I work (which isn't that much more than anyone with a full time job: I sometimes stay a few hours late and go in on Saturday mornings to keep up with things). So he has taken to mocking me about this whenever there are other people around and I come home late. He on the other hand seems to have watched the new season of Arrested Development at least four times now ...

I believe that in fact after 9/11 the first revenge killing in the US was of a Sikh gas station owner in Arizona, who had been mistakenly identified as Arab by someone wanting to perform his own little reprisal: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Murder_of_Balbir_Singh_Sodhi I actually attending MIT for undergraduate and have many friends still there or working in the Boston area. Thankfully they are all ok (though the one who was running in the marathon came close to not being so; she was only 3-4 blocks from one of the bomb sites), and the rest of the world is showing its compassion toward all involved in this series of tragic events.

Many years ago I had a roommate who was a little unpleasant, but tolerable. He rarely washed his dishes and yelled at me one time when I didn't wake him up for his exam (because I guess one's roommate with a different class schedule should be your planner and alarm clock). Then one day I came home to find a large German flag (of the WWII variety) pinned to the wall above his bed and he calmly announced to me that he was a big fan of Hitler's work. Luckily, it wasn't too long after that he was expelled for low GPA.
