TMCWPTI #3 - Game Thread

"Hm.." Godfather Tony sat back in his super-secret IRONTown Mafia Hideout in the back room of a small bar in the middle of the town. The door opened and a drunk resident of the town staggered in.

"Go away!"

"This isn't the bathroom?"

"No!"

"Oh. Sorry."

The door closed again.

"Now, where was I?" Tony glanced at the assembled Mafioso gathered round him.

"You were saying about your success, boss..." One of them piped up, taking a drag at a cigar that was being passed around the group.

"Yes, I was! But that was the PAST! We have to move ON!" Tony stood up, looking round his goons thoughtfully.

"We've won once, and we can do it again! But now where...?"

Suggestions came thick and fast. The most popular suggestion seemed to be the bank - less for the money and more because everyone wanted to be the one who used the explosives on the vault door.

In the midst of the babbling of excitement, Godfather Tony cleared his throat.

"I'm hungry. We're TAKING THE CAFÉ!"

Silence fell.

"Uh... the Café, boss?"

"Yes, dammit! You, and you! With me! Let's go! NOW!"

And so it was decided.

I don't want an extension. This game is slow enough as it is.

The reason I don't think it is wise to lynch is that the odds are very much against hitting a scum.

With 11 players there would typically be 3 scum. So a random lynch would get a townie 8/11 of the time.

To further skew the odds, consider that the scum know who they are so they can avoid voting for another scum.

And on top of it all, consider that there are some townie power roles floating around that we need to win. It's not worth the 3/11 chance of of trying to get a scum when there's at least a 3/11 chance of killing off a cop, doc, or other power role.

Having the deadline pass without enough votes for a lynch is just as good as a majority voting for no-lynch. Bring on the night!

Well i have no clue on who could be Mafia. All i've seen are people making, what i think are, their usual day 1 claims or just random accusing with no evidence. What do we need to get the ball rolling?

Well what do you expect?

I think every day one is like that

where everyone tries to lynch someone

for the craziest and dumbest of reasons.

The only thing we get here is information

(how each person reacted, voted, and

posted that led to the lynching; scum

can slip-up while they post as it's

normally hard to lie or hide things)

and the chance to lynch a scum.

At least we have some quite of progress and

we don't start from zero the next day.

And we can't always rely on the cops or

any other role as they can be killed by the mafia.

That's why on D1 of games, I prefer to lynch an

inactive player than choose not to lynch as

inactive players can destroy the game especially

if they're still alive during the later days.

Well.. accusing someone of being scum usually gets the ball rolling.

KevinH, why are you against the extension?

Are you impatient to get the night kill ??

or just happy to see that town has kinda agreed on No-lynch?

After leading the lynch on the cop (security guard) in the last game...I'm starting to rethink my lynch on D1 policy. That lynch was a huge blow against the town.

We have 11 players with presumably 3 mafia.

If we did 2 consecutive no lynch, we would have 3 nights to gather info and 1 chance to get mafia before LYLO (worst case scenario and assuming only 1 nightkill).

D1 No Lynch - 8/3

N1 mafia kill - 7/3

D2 No Lynch - 7/3

N2 mafia kill - 6/3

D3 Lynch - 5/3

N3 mafia kill - 4/3

D4 LYLO

If we lynched on D1...we get 2 chances to lynch mafia and 2 nights to gather info.

D1 Lynch - 7/3

N1 mafia kill - 6/3

D2 Lynch - 5/3

N2 mafia kill - 4/3

D3 LYLO

Hmmmm

So that means you think we should no-lynch? I don't think a mafia player would recomend a no-lynch.

Undecided at this point.

I think if everyone votes between 2 lynch candidates...then voting patterns can be established. If not everyone votes...then the importance of voting patterns are lessened.

Seeing the inactivity that generally is associated with D1...I'm leaning towards a no-lynch.

CD advocating no-lynch.. :o

I am not against it but I am a little surprised.

*adds CD to the list of suspects*

Why would you suspect him for thinking about a no-lynch?

Because generally I have been in favour of lynching on D1. So it is out of character for me to advocate a no lynch. So a deviation from the norm should make people wary of me.

But I would say...

If every is compelled to vote...I would be for a lynch. If everyone has votes strewn about...maybe a no lynch may be the best course of action.

Why would you suspect him for thinking about a no-lynch?

Well.. he has always been a "lynch on the first day benefits town guy".

In the last round he led the bandwagon against someone claiming to be a security guard (on the first day), because "no-lynch" is not good for the town. Now, he might be trying to ensure that the same mistake is not repeated. But, this is not what he usually does and I find it a little suspicious.

Yeah...it's called learning from your mistakes.

Well, things are a bit different now than it was last game. In TMCWPTI #2 the day 1 linchee was an active player, and here we're talking about lynching an inactive (btw, how many are left?). Inactives hurt town simply by existing. Mafia can plan their tactics with the inactives in mind (like we did last game).

I guess the benefit of lynching inactives is getting rid of dead weight and removes all doubt what role (townie/mafia) they are.
