IRON Meetup?

Featured Replies

This is something that I've thought about for a long time. I figured I'd finally throw it out there to see what people thought. I was thinking about what a good time it'd be if at some point in the future (maybe a year or two from now) we actually tried to hold an IRON meetup in real life. There are a lot of ways this could happen and if people were actually interested we could talk about it more seriously sometime.

I was thinking that maybe we could hold something like this in the central United States somewhere. This would make travel a bit easier on people from around the country. Obviously this would be impossible/very difficult for anyone from over seas to attend but you would certainly be welcomed to come if you wanted to take a vacation to the U.S. (Looking at you Rab, Blade and Q) :P

We always talk about what a great community we have and are in IRON, just thought it'd be cool if we could enjoy it and reminisce with one another sometime. This could be open to any current or former IRONers if we wanted it to be.

Would anyone even have any interest in something like this?

Yehom - you've got 1-2 years to save up for the event. Start now. :)

Rhizo - I am talking about doing it in the states, mostly because I live here.

So far Vegas has been brought up. What other city would house a good venue? Something a little more centrally located? Chicago? St. Louis? Houston? New orleans?

Sorry I got vegas blinders on, its all I can see, and I could meet up with a friend I made while at Ft Gordon :D

New Orleans is pretty cool to visit, fun times at night too and plenty of hotels on canal street, although my opinion might change when I'm down there in full gear this July doing the whole JRTC thing :P

I have some family in Chicago but most of my time there was spent at their houses so can't speak as to what the city has to offer other than some good pizza.

Only ever stopped in Houston on my way through it but have a friend down there that I would be fun to say hi to.

Never been to St. Louis myself but i think that's where one of my ex-girlfriends lives these days O.o

LOS ANGELES!!! Well, in reality, it would be way too far west.

So, I wouldn't mind Las Vegas!!! It's only 4 hours away from LA. :D I go there occasionally anyway.

What will we do there? Gamble in the name of IRON? :D I think it would be fun to get a booth or something at a place to chill/drink/chat/etc. For our minor children (but over 18, I don't think we should have to babysit, sorry people. xD However, if you live there, why not!), we could probably provide variety of fresh juice.

I would be down, if the schedule works out. Of course, in a year or two that is. ;)

We could so be a nerd and wear IRON shirts or something. ROFL! Of course... Before we go out. At our own rooms. xD Just kidding.

Well when I started thinking about this the one thing that kept occuring to me was if we like rented out a giant conference room/ball room type facility in a giant hotel or something and had some sort of get to know you/reminisce about good times IC and tell stories. Of course that wouldn't be all that would be going on. There would certainly need to be an open bar and by the end of that evening IRON would leave the room in a similar shape as that of VE after this war ends. :P

Doing it in Vegas would be cool because after this get together event we could do things like hit up the casinos and clubs and just have a great time.

For those of us that are under age we would have to figure out what else they could do, but I think we would have a great time. I'd love to throw back some drinks with Rab, Blade, CJ, and MM.

Vegas or New Orleans are the most "exciting" venues. But anything in the central portion of the states would be a viable option.

I am part of a motorcycle forum, and our first meet and greet like this was awesome. It created a new level of comradarie.

Whatever would suit people best is fine with me.  I'm on the opposite side of the US (East Coast), and I know there isn't as much on this side for "Fun" venues as out west.

We got DC, which I live 20 minutes from so I've seen in all basically, and there is Atlantic City in NJ, but Vegas beats Atlantic City.

You in Theo?

If there's a meet I'll be there.

Awesome. Are you living in the states these days? Or are you still in Europe?

Agreed.

The way I look at it is this: Many of us have been playing this game for 3-6 years with most of that time having been spent on the IRON AA. That is a long time that we have been spending with one another, regardless of how active each person always is. I've been a member of IRON for 1,615 days which is just over 4.5 years. That is many many days and hours that have been devoted to this community and it has resulted in making a few really good friends. Would be cool to actually meet and have a good time together.

Vegas would definitely be a fun way to go. I was originally thinking something in the central U.S. so that travel times and costs for anyone in the U.S. wouldn't be too bad. Short flights for the west coast, east coast and obviously the midwest folks. I'm sure that if we decided to do Chicago or St. Louis or New Orleans we could find things to do without much of a problem.

Even for those under 21 New Orleans and Vegas would still be fun. I've been to New Orleans underage (granted I still ended up drinking there) but the seeing and hearing about the history of it was worth it enough to me. Vegas has some amazing shows that people of any age would enjoy.

Also the IRON shirts would be pretty funny :P

While the idea of Colorado sounds amazing to me and I would be able to visit a friend I haven't seen in a couple years, I don't think that would work out as well. Simply because it is geared towards a single event so only those who ski/snowboard would find the most enjoyment out of it. By choosing a venue of a large city such as Vegas it opens up a large variety of things to do so its more likely to be enjoyed by a larger crowd.

If we chose Chicago I could ask about some places to go see. Last time i visited family there it was around the 4th of July so we blew some stuff up and then stayed at my uncles house that was on a lake outside of Chicago (the name escapes me) and took out my cousins seadoos. So I would be fine seeing the rest of what Chicago has to offer.

Nope. But I'm in US at least six times a year, so its not an issue.

I have been to New Orelans underage and didn't really get to do a whole lot. I'm sure there would be things to do, but they just wouldn't have as much fun as we would. :P Honestly, I don't even think that we would have to really worry about anyone under 21. Unless they are really close to turning 21, like 20 or maybe 19, parents probably wouldn't let those of us who are underage attend an event like this.

I have an IRON shirt already. I would likely wear it at some point.

Chicago would be a decent city to do this imo. There is a lot to do and a lot of hotels where we could rent a giant room to have an event like this. I am also in favor of New Orleans. Been there a few times, most recently 2 or 3 years ago and really got to enjoy the French Quarter and Bourbon Street.

Well we would certainly enjoy having you if we do something like this.
