The Samus Factor, ie. lynching outstandingly good players early every time they play, is a good way of driving people away from playing mafia, thus it should be avoided.

It isn't pretty, but its the most effective strategy, mafia scum can use.
Agreed. It’s pretty odd that no one tries to lynch the people who try to lynch the top players on D1. Night killing these guys is very good strategy, though, imo.

Have you ever moderated a game? Just curious. :)

As annoying as it is from a personal point of view, I don't blame mafia, it makes sense to most people.

But me personally if I was mafia i'd prefer to keep the vocal and experienced players in game, until mid gameish, as they are the ones that can usually build support for a lynch and if you play your game right, mafia can use that to their advantage.

It's a double edged sword.

MVP(Mod’s Choice)= Master Samus; I think Master Samus played amazingly for a guy who claims it was his second only mafia game. He never led the town on him and that’s why he deserves this award. He was impressive in manipulating the town that led to the ultimate mafia victory.

Player of Mafia; Master Samus/emudevelopment (shared); I think both were instrumental in the town’s defeat. Both were manipulative and deceptive. They clearly came out as pro-town and looked like de-facto town leaders. They led the lynch wagon w/o anyone uncovering their true motives.

Samus, you should be proud that you've helped make an environment where people feel safe enough to share their experiences.

I don't think it would be a problem, since the mask for mafia moding is separate from anything else. But i'm not an admin, so that's just my opinion :P

Hi everyone

I'm one of the people organizing the Mafia Championship. I believe The Warrior is representing you guys? But I've been told they've been unresponsive, and as we are scheduling all the games tomorrow we really need to get in contact with them. So I just wanted to post here in case any of you had a way of reaching him? :)

It doesn't seem like we're able to get in contact with The Warrior.

I don't suppose anyone would be willing to replace him and play in the Mafia Championship? :)

The streak ended at 6.

I wouldn't worry about it. If you do worry, read about a roulette game getting 32 reds in a row.

Interestingly it ended in the first open game in a while too, and one that was supposed to be the most challenging for town to get right. I wonder if maybe we're just getting a little too comfortable relying on the wide variety of mechanics in closed role madness games to win games for town? If that makes sense lol

So KevinH,
i have been thinking of your last post in my game.
That total wins means nothing more than longevity and activity.
That's true.

And we have been having this discussion in the wins thread about this as well.

So I'm proposing individual game grading from now on.

So players can be graded on a scale, of let's say 1-10 by each player who played.
Then we calculate the average, excluding the player own ratings.

Then we can track it over games.

So if someone gets a 5 in one game, then 6 in another, then a 4 in the next.
The average calculated over games will 5.

Then like how we currently place players in a tier of wins, at the bottom of the win thread.
We place players in a tier ranging from 1 - 10.
With 10 being the highest.

This ensures actual contributions are recognised.

Actually a nice idea.

But there will be prejudices involved in this system.

I actually have a more outlandish idea that might mind of have the added benefit of solving this problem. What if we had a fantasy mafia league? People could put players on their "team" for different games and then everyone gains or loses points based on how they contribute to the outcome (ie +1 for lynching the opposite alignment, -1 for lynching your own alignment, +3 for being alive when your team wins, etc). The league itself would be just for fun, but scoring contributions might actually help show everyone's skill level more objectively.

True, but those opinions coming from a prejudiced point are easy to recognise and thus excluded from the ratings.

Hardly. People will only give numbers unless you want them to explain their rating then it me possible but based on numbers alone it'd be hard to distinguish.

I propose similar.

We should have a league table.

There should be 4 seasons of 3 months each year. Players will be given 1st 2nd and 3rd ranks.

You gain points and move up table by winning and lynching like you said.

Faction win: 5 Loss: -3

Individual win 7 loss: -2

Lynching oppo faction: 2 Lynching own faction -1

You also get 1 point for every 10 posts per game.
