As I ponder this setup, we can consider the tracker as an investigative role.
So between the cop and the tracker, we have 4 of 6 chance of having a setup with an investigation.
Also, there are only 2 mafia out of 9 players so the Day 1 "random" lynch has a 7 of 9 chance of being a townie.
I don't like those odds.

The odds of us lynching a mafia are the same as the cop targeting mafia. At least our lynch, right or wrong, will yield valuable information to the whole town.

This made me laugh.

 

I do not like inactivity.

However, we currently have a waiting list to join, so there is no need to lynch inactives per se.

There is no surety that a cop is present or that he will be able to survive to reveal who he investigated. How do you get more information if there are no voting trends and everyone votes no lynch?

Usually, I agree with the no-lynch strategy but in this game, we only have a 1 in 3 chance of having a cop. If we decide to no-lynch today and we are in a setup without a cop.. our odds will be worse tomorrow and we would be stuck right where we are today. 

Now, I don't consider the tracker role as an investigative cop because even if the tracker was lucky enough to target a scum, he still might get nothing because the killing was done by the other scum. It also means that trackers cannot confirm townies.

I'll agree the tracker is a much weaker investigative role, but it's better than nothing.

I haven't played mafia in a while, nor had a good grasp of understanding the gametheory before. So both not lynching and lynching inactives sounds like a good plan to me.

To me the answer is simple, we need info going into Day 2, and we will likely have little/none if we all just no lynch.

It's 7 townies to 2 scum now.

 

The town should prefer to start Day 2 with 6 townies rather than 5.

 

If we lynch a townie on Day 1, what info do we get?

Everyone who votes for the lynch will say they were acting in the town's best interest.

The problem is that it is also in the scum's best interest.

I'm in favor of lynching inactives but we can't just gang up on some1 and make wrong decisions continually after that.
