[KH-06] The Battle of the Five Armies Mafia - Town Wins

The part of Preston protecting Lyner holds some weight, but falls short of using a sane cop ability is not. The sane Cop ability is entirely more valuable and the doc should be saved towards later game if possible. Gain intel and finding scum is more important than trying to protect somebody. Consider he wasn't blocked either when the scum have the role blocking ability, is troubling, perhaps they did figure ABD was more of a chance with his watching ability to find scum then Preston finding scum with his Role Cop ability. So, I find myself unable to remove Preston from my scum list, its too convente. After even saying how valuable the sane role cop is and the discussion we had about it yesterday. Now, if he going to claim he doesn't have that ability, this puts a new spin on things. In which case I'm going to have to reread that entire discussion.

I know Nick is a bit inactive. Thats fine. I know also, he has been unmasked as MSG of Delta also. However, he his role is very much in the air, and my process of people who could of shot EM is pretty low. So low, that TBR would be a candidate and he hasn't claimed shooting EM N1. That also leaves EM possibly shooting TBR, but I don't see why he'd do that. Many questions, not many answers.

@Preston, The info that I put out now, is the info I think is worth putting out, at the time I think is most helpful to the town. If I wanted to spill the beans, I could just up and role claim and things would be interesting. I even know who visited me. I don't wish to say who it was though as to put a target on his back though as I figure that clears him as town. One scum tried digging towards my role already. (D3mon), and he got lynched. Digging for roles is a scum tell. So unlike you, I have not role claimed. I gotta work with the info at my disposal. The process of elimination right now isn't perfect, and if it was, and I can without a shadow of doubt nail scum and win the game, your dang right I'd be role claiming and putting everything out there and ending this game on a win.

I assume it's Nick that is getting replaced? If so if people think Nick is scum then he gets replaced see how the person who replaces him goes, it's difficult to take over from a scum role as an introduced player (been there, done that) and if they were to end up doing nothing like Nick, they have probably already given up and are trying to stay below the radar which is a good sign of scum.

Today we are trying to fit the pieces together and be confident in the person that we lynch has a high probability of being scum. I haven't had much to do with this seeing as the only games where I've lived long enough have been scum games but I personally think that someone who has already role claimed is not as innocent as people want them to think, as well as those who haven't claimed at all there is definitely at least one or two bad eggs in there. I'm looking at EM as possibly one of them, I already had suspicions of him at the beginning based on his first actions however his failure to capitalise with my accusers on day 1 (Lyner, TBR) made it seem to me that he didn't want to be seen as a key accuser and when I would had flipped town someone like TBR would have had to cop the flak for it leaving EM fine. Main flaw with my suspicion is that EM was hit on night 1 (who knows what it was, vig/scum) so it sort of makes it less valid. Lack of vig claim makes me think it was probably scum after all for now. As for the second it would probably be Nick for his lack of contributions and general fluff posts, if it is him to be replaced I will be watching his replacement.

As for one of those that has already role claimed for someone I suspect, I think Rafay because we already had a townie tracker not only that we have a watcher as well so another investigative ability might not have been ideal to the town.

I don't have much solid in terms of eliminating people and having a list and such, I'm stating what I have thought of things so far. So if TBR or Imran have come up with something that does sound solid I would join because it seems to me they are both townies.

This is a good post.  Couple things I would want you to think about, though.  We killed one scum already, one blocked you last night, and one killed Lyner.  We know Rafay tracked Imran last night as confirmed by Imran.

1) Do you think there are 4 scum?

2) If there are and Rafay is a tracker scum, then why would he track Imran.  He already knows Imran is a role cop so the scums job would be to find other power roles in our group.

3) IMO, the absolutely only way Rafay is scum is if he is in cahoots with Imran.

For Imran I had a strong town vibe in day 2, especially after all the claims, but we can't be 100% sure he isn't a scum role cop.  He could have not been roleblocked night one and he could have faked claimed he investigated Preston last night while targeting someone else.  I am not saying he did, just that I don't give him over 55-60% town vibe right now.  There is important information that other people need to share from last night for us to finish putting this together.

I should have checked the sign-up thread first.

Mariomario190 replaces Nick the Great.

Mariomario190, welcome to the game.  You have a lot of catching up to do and we'd all love to hear your thoughts about last night and your thoughts on other players.  I currently think you are a strong candidate for mafia scum (in this game) and it is going to take some convincing to make me think otherwise.  Good luck, mate.

The part of Preston protecting Lyner holds some weight, but falls short of using a sane cop ability is not. The sane Cop ability is entirely more valuable and the doc should be saved towards later game if possible. Gain intel and finding scum is more important than trying to protect somebody.

This is my thinking as well.  We had four claimed power roles, that were all viable scum targets and it was likely they had a strongman role to use on alternating days.  If I had the choice of a doctor role or tracker, watcher, or sane cop I would have used any of the later three first.  Honestly, if he knew Lyner was going to be the target, why not just watch him?  The way he worded it throws me off too.

First reaction is relief that d3mon was scum and Lyner's cop action was real; I'd put the hammer on that somewhat by accident, and I'd have been in a VERY bad position if d3mon had turned out to be town....For my night action: when d3mon proved scum, I felt that vetted Lyner as town; as such instead of investigating I used my JOAT's doctor to protect him.

That is two sentences from Preston's post that makes me scratch my head.  So if he just hoped that Lyner was telling the truth then why all of a sudden so positive that instead of using watcher or cop role he uses doctor role?  He could very well be lying about using the doc role on Lyner, but Imran confirmed Preston's role as JOAT so unless scum JOAT have strongman arrows to fire around...I don't know man.  This is another scenario where if Preston is scum then Imran could be as well, but go back to N1 and why would Preston target Imran (caught by Rafay) and then role claim (dump) for everyone?  In this instance, Preston could have given us different results if they were working together.

Robert, I don't want to dig into your role, but if EM, Imran, or Preston targeted you then that would be very valuable group information to share based on what's been claimed and what we don't know.  Otherwise, I am with you that it is probably a town scum hunting and you have found a townie ally.  Even if it EM did it, I suppose we don't have to know as a group but it would bring a lot of clarity for me personally.

You ever read your post right after posting it and have a DOH! lightbulb moment?  I get what Preston is saying now without him having to explain it to me.  He voted D3mon and then D3mon was lynched so he was relieved.  So because he 100% knew Lyner was town at this point, then he protected him for the night action.  He writes novels with every post so its hard to follow along sometimes.

I am with you that it is probably a town scum hunting and you have found a townie ally. Even if it EM did it, I suppose we don't have to know as a group but it would bring a lot of clarity for me personally.

I am with you that it is probably a town who was scum hunting and you have found a townie ally. Even if it EM did it, I suppose we don't have to know as a group but it would bring a lot of clarity for me personally.

That is what my 2nd to last sentence should have looked like.  After reading it again, I can see where I should have worded it better.

3 points for you TBR.

Number one, None of the 3 you mentioned targeted me.

Number two, It is very possible with how so many have arrow proof a scum JOAT would have a strongman ability. One initially I'd imagine they'd want to save. I would even say likely. The scum are going to need to be buffed up with all the town power roles. So 2 scum JOAT's isn't unreasonable (since its likely both would have a killing ability.). Everybody seems to have a power here, unless I'm mistaken. I honestly think there are 3 scum in this game.

Number three, I do feel your townie (probably most townie thats still alive), however, there are still many questions in the air. Therefore I should not call you an ally. Nor should you, unless you've investigated me and found I was townie, you can't truly trust me unless night actions somehow point to said person being town. Just a word of caution. Scum can easily use this against you.

I said YOU probably found a townie ally, if you are indeed town.  I know that with one scum dead, one roleblocking, and one killing Lyner that it is unlikely a 4th one targeted you for some reason.  You weren't role-blocked and you weren't hit with an arrow, so this person probably checked your flavor, tracked you, or watched you.  You are actually on my suspect list based on the limited number of people whose actions we know from both nights, but all your posts read town so you aren't at the top of the list.

Right now my list is Nick/Mario, then Preston and Imran, followed by you and EM.  If somebody came out and admitted using a vigilante role on EM N1 then I'd move EM to the top of the list with Nick/Mario.  Otherwise, I have no idea why anyone would use that role on N1 and it seems like scum had to have targeted him.  I have a reason to doubt most of the people on my list as far as being scum or town:

Preston - JOAT who outed Imran's role and whose actions were tracked N1.  For sure didn't fire any arrows N1, but could have a strongman role he used N2.  Could have been the roleblocker on Imran N1, but then how would he know Imran was a rolecop?  So probably not the roleblocker on Imran, which means we would have a roleblocker, two people firing arrows (one was D3mon) and then Preston as the 4th scum.

Imran - Preston says he is a Role Cop and he hasn't denied it.  His posts don't read scummy, but he was conveniently blocked N1 and then confirmed Preston's Role Claim on N2.  Zero helpful information both nights.  I do want to lean town, but there is doubt even though I know two arrows flew N1 and Preston says Imran is a Role Cop.  They would have to be working together as both scum, which would also mean 3 scum left with a total of 4 for the game.  I also might not understand the goblin role completely.  Could a scum role cop also decide to kill someone at night instead of use their role?

Robert - Not digging, but you hinted you used a tracker role to see who targeted you which means if somebody confirms they did that then they are either your partner in crime or they clear you both from scummy actions last night.  You post very townish and you were all over D3mon before Lyner told us he was scum so big points there, but we have so far zero actions or night action claims to prove you are town.  I actually have a great idea who targeted you and agree he is town.  If we are keeping it real and its not those three I listed, we both know it wasn't me, Rafay, or ABD so it boils down to two people and I think one of those is scum and one town and we have both placed our votes accordingly.

EM - We keep going on and on about why he ate an arrow N1 and I think I am overthinking it. He is probably town, but if he has a role he sure isn't sharing any information and I'd have to go back and review to see if he's provided any useful scum hunting information.

I am almost 100% positive that ABD, Rafay, and Kaz are all town (if there are only 3 scum and not 4) and that one of us four will be targeted on N3.  Rafay and ABD seem like the most dangerous to the scum, but I have an arrow sticking out of my knee and there is a great chance they don't get strongman for N3 so have to go with the easy kill.

All of that is why I think both of us lean toward Nick/Mario as scum, but we also know there is at least one more and I am slightly concerned that the 3rd one doesn't fully stand out for me. It makes me question if there are indeed 4 scum, which would make more sense based on what we think we know.

You've indeed got it right this time :) I had a lot to catch up on, and from only having missed not even 24 hours of Day 3 - so it was indeed a bit long.

However, your action last night is very very suspicious. Why did you not use your sane cop ability? Why would you use the doc role when you know there is a very strong possibility that scum will use the strong man ability? There positively is a Vig in this game. Otherwise there will be no need for scum to have arrow-proof abilities as well.

Per my earlier post Imran, I wasnt 100% on scum having a strongman based on our discussion on Day 2, because Kevin had implied the scum didn't have strong arrows currently with his threat to buff them and we had observed two arrows fired already; my guess as to the balance of the game was that they got two shots per night. I think I spelled that out on Day 2, but I can go looking for it later if needed. Because of that theory I figured if the scum had two shots they would use one on Lyner, so if I was able to block it that would waste one of their attacks and keep the proven cop around for longer - his results would now be trusted.

You make a good point about the scum having arrowproof implying there is a vig ability in this game, however. I do have one vig use as part of my JOAT role, and presumably Lyner did too; I'm not sure if that's sufficient to explain the scum's arrowproof however. I don't expect a vigilante would have held their shots for two nights, so I think it's unlikely we have a dedicated vigilante on our side. We could examine how many role actions claimed so far could ALSO be JOATs, but Robert might call that digging toward roles :P

The part of Preston protecting Lyner holds some weight, but falls short of using a sane cop ability is not. The sane Cop ability is entirely more valuable and the doc should be saved towards later game if possible. Gain intel and finding scum is more important than trying to protect somebody. I'm pretty sure I already said I have a sane cop usage on Day 2. I chose to try and save a proven townie on Night 2 instead, because scum targeting Lyner seemed a pretty sure thing. For more elaboration read what I wrote to Imran's comment in the same vein above. I also posted at exceeding length exactly why I felt I had no choice but to do a full roleclaim when the role chain led from ABD to Rafay to me.

My curiosity about your role stems from this statement you made:

So it seems after reviewing what I have, my strongest candidate right now to be scum would be Preston. Which sucks cause he is so active. I don't buy his role claim for one, 2, JOAT may be his role, but its more likely scum. 3, without role claiming myself, my role existence and what it is leads me believe he is either lying about his role, or is a Scum JOAT. There is no going around it for me.

You've already used your role as your basis for attacking me, so it's fair game and not role digging to wonder what that entails. It cannot be anything you DID with your role, because as of that time you had not targeted me. You are also now throwing out vague references - I fail to see how saying you were visited and know who it is with no context is helpful to the town at all. I'll leave it up to you to elaborate on this or not, but the fact you staked your attack on your role that you won't reveal leaves a key piece out of your justification.

I should have checked the sign-up thread first.

Mariomario190 replaces Nick the Great.

Nice, welcome! You've got more than a little bit of a novel to read to catch up; have you played before? :)

With a replacement for Nick, that is one less inactive; would be nice if Kaz would similarly return.

TBRaiders has some good questions here.

1) Numberswise, 4 scum would be 1/3rd of the game. It's possible, though I don't know how likely.

2) The only possible use I could see for Rafay-as-scum tracking Imran would be to know in advance if Imran did a role cop investigation on one of his scum allies. By publicly saying at the start who Imran investigated, it would them inform their decision whether they could safely fake-claim should it come up. However this would imply a connection between Rafay-as-scum and one of those who have not claimed (EM, Robert, Nick, TBRaiders) or someone who has claimed only their action.

3) Based on my response to #2 I don't think Rafay and Imran are scum together; in general when anyone is confirmed as having targeted someone else except with abilities like doctor or watcher, I think that means they're not in the same faction.

The only direct role connections to Rafay are ABD (watched me on Night 1, called out Rafay as a result) and the inactive Kaz who claimed via fletcher/gunsmith that Rafay's role was not arrow-related on Day 2. Rafay being a tracker and not showing up as arrow-related makes sense.

Kaz's claim was interesting because it seemed out of the blue; I think it was done in response to Robert asking why Kaz thought Rafay was town, and instead of giving some other reason Kaz dropped an action claim and then voted for Lyner. Kaz not being involved in the roleclaim chain meant he really didnt HAVE to claim at all; for some reason none of us paid a lot of attention to it on Day 2, and I know Robert didn't blow up at him for the additional claim like he did at me.

If we consider that Kaz might be scum, this leads to a few possibilities:

1. Kaz chose to say Rafay was arrow-less because it was a safe fake-claim; i.e. he knows what a gunsmith would return for Rafay based on Rafay's tracker claim, so he says it.

2. Kaz chose to claim to defend Rafay because Kaz and Rafay are scum together; at that point Rafay was about to be lynched and Imran, Lyner and EM had all demanded he roleclaim. The timing would work for this, but it's not conclusive; and it would also mean there would have to be a fourth scum per TBRaiders above (d3mon(JOAT), rafay(tracker), kaz(strongman or roleblocker), ???(strongman or roleblocker). The 4-scum idea may make this less likely.

3. Robert didn't blow up about/call attention to Kaz's roleclaim because Robert and Kaz could be scum together. He reacted strongly to the push to make Rafay claim, and VERY strongly to my roleclaim; another investigative role comes out and Robert's reaction was simply "yeah, thats allot of tracking abilities." Obviously this is not conclusive either, though it would not preclude Kaz and Robert from filling the strongman and roleblocker roles.

No scenario above requires Kaz to have actually used a fletcher/gunsmith ability to have gained the knowledge he used, because Rafay had explained his ability first. This therefore could be a cover for the scum roleblocker or strongman... hm.

I tend to write my "novels" by multiquoting major bits said since my last post and then responding to them in stream-of-consciousness fashion. So I've just now come to this particular line of analysis about Kaz-as-scum... which seems like it might actually hold water. What do you all think about this?

-Preston

Preston doc protected Lyner last night he says. Well I says, phooey on that. There is no way that man protected Lyner last night. I know this for a fact. Preston was jailed last night by yours truly.

I am the towns jailer. They are protected from night kills and cannot use their ability. I targeted Imran N1 and Preston last night.

Wow.  I will be changing my vote to Preston, but I will be damned if I change it right now and see the day end before more people post.

Interesting. Given the scum's strong arrow, explain to me how you can say my doc was not overcome by it? And furthermore did you forget that Imran verified my rolecop role last night, while Rafay in turn verified that Imran targeted me...? He could not have done so if you were in fact a jailer and sealed me off from other actions.

I think we have the first verified lie of the game, EM.

Vote: Electric Mango

-Preston

Oh, and while I'm thinking about it EM (Really wish I could edit posts to add this to my original): unless you also roleblocked ABD, the scum still have a strongman and a roleblocker. Which of those two do you claim I was blocked from doing? Both occurred last night.

-Preston

hmmm. Preston and EM going at it. He also claims to blocked Imran n1? Then who blocked ABD N2? Unless somebody is lying here. its clear though EM and Preston aren't scum buddys. Some pieces fit, some don't.

Okay, did not expect that. Hard thing is I can't confirm any of this because I was role blocked, coming from a scum position, EM could have actually role blocked me (for those not reading, I was RBd last night watching Preston) and is throwing suspicion to Preston and the beauty of it is if people did lynch Preston and he turned out a townie, EM can just shift the blame off himself saying it's true what he did and what he believed in. Already seen this before.

Coming from a townie perspective he should have jailed me on night 1 (seeing as he viewed myself suspicious) and picked someone other than me, instead he stopped Imran in investigating. So it's obvious EM has done nothing but harm the town so far with his night actions.

I am stating my position of suspicion of EM because unless someone has anything else we should know, it will be EM's words against Prestons and right now I have no reason to trust EM considering his actions. That again I don't have complete trust in Preston as well, namely that he can easily say that he protected Lyner, hell, someone could say right now that they watched Lyner and it would be valid (because apparently Rafay is a townie).

But very well, let's see what happens, I won't be taking EM's side any time soon though.

My role states that you cannot be night killed and you will be role blocked and nothing else. Imran's claim may still be valid. If you had really protected Lyner last night you would have known you were role blocked just like Imran was.

Preston, you like to write novels, consider this your final chapter.

hmmm. Preston and EM going at it. He also claims to blocked Imran n1? Then who blocked ABD N2? Unless somebody is lying here. its clear though EM and Preston aren't scum buddys. Some pieces fit, some don't.

EM has been fairly quiet and laid low throughout the game up until now. For all that, he still had some town credit because of the arrow he took on night 1 - from my prior post I was looking at Kaz and possibly Rafay or Robert, but not him. With d3mon dead and nearly all the other roles claimed, it makes sense for him to be acting a little desperate since it leaves him on the short list as we hunt the remaining 2-3 scum. Putting the attack on me like this isn't an unreasonable move - however he seems to have missed that verified actions WERE performed on me last night, and scum still did a roleblock and a night kill of their own.

Unless EM is accusing Imran of being my scum partner and fake-verifying my role, or accusing me of being a fourth scum on the basis of my doctor failing when trying to stop a strong arrow that overcame Lyner's 1-shot arrowproof, I'm not sure what he's hoping to accomplish here.

-Preston

I'm assuming you did not have a chance to read my follow up post regarding Imran's night action.

Also your claim of me being desperate, reeks of desperation itself. I was not high up on anyone's scum list and would therefore have no reason to accuse you if I were not telling the truth.

Imran, I didn't have anyone that was high on my suspect list going into night one and basically was just trying to get lucky.

I targeted Preston the 2nd night because I was suspicious of his JOAT role. He also placed the final vote on d3mon but only after it was bound to happen anyway. Seemed like it was a last ditch effort to try to separate himself from the scum team. I'm also inherently suspicious of him because he is always a vocal leader in these mafia games and I like to check on my biggest threats 1st, which is another reason why I chose you n1.
