Republicans punish officials who fail us (most recently Kevin McCarthy), Democrats re-elect and promote them.

 

 

Remind me when Republicans punished David Vitter?  (Or is cavorting with prostitutes while dressed as a baby considered not-"fail"?)

Note to others: after publicly apologizing for his association with prostitutes, he was re-elected to the US Senate from Louisiana, garnering 88% of the vote from Republican primary voters.

 

By contrast, NY Gov. Eliot Spitzer, a Democrat who also associated with prostitutes around the same time, actually resigned.  He tried to run for NYC Comptroller, and lost in the Democratic primary (i.e., he got neither re-election or promotion).

 

I guess the people of Louisiana decided to accept his apology as sincere, and keep a Republican Senator they trust.

 

Eliot Spitzer was New York Attorney General before he was Governor. How many people did he put in jail for committing the same crime he was stuffing his face into with unabashed fervor? It was quite embarrassing, and much more spicy than Vitter's little play.

 

Some people are too creepy for even Democrats to support. Anthony Weiner almost pulled it off when he was running for Mayor of New York, but he got busted again, actually pulling it off with "Sidney Leathers". They blessed themselves with Bill de Blasio instead. Bill Clinton is the big tuna... what a fuckin' horn dog... the fact that Hillary didn't divorce that scumbag proves her participation.

Ultimately, anyone who is willing to put up with that much bullshit for the sake of power will always have some screws loose. Of course, I have yet to meet a person who doesn't have some screws loose. Politics is pretty much a high school popularity contest on steroids. There shouldn't be any surprise when you discover something horrible about someone involved in politics. The question is always how it reflects on their ability to do their job. With Hilary, that's a definite. With Spitzer, I'm not so sure, but I differ from the majority on the prostitution issue, anyway.

 

As far as David Vitter is concerned, Louisiana is by far the most socially liberal part of the south. There's a reason Mardi Gras continues there and blue laws never got a lot of traction. They have a lot in common culturally with the Caribbean and celebrate their connection with France. You have to view them through the lens of Catholicism, rather than Fundamentalism. Catholics tend to be more accepting of individual sinners and absolution, while Fundamentalists will turn you out of the church after a scandal. Vitter would not have gotten the same second chance in a Protestant part of the Bible Belt.

Joe Biden just announced he isn't running in 2016. Rather interesting news as I expected him to end up clashing with Hilary.

Well Uncle Joe isn't running... either he was having too much trouble fighting the Clinton machine for endorsements, or they're pretty confident that nothing will happen over the Benghazi hearing tomorrow... or both. Look for Obama to roadblock anything coming at Hillary from the Justice Department or the FBI... they have been doing that on everything for 7 years. If they do squeak out an indictment, any conviction will be quickly pardoned by the lawless President.

The thing with Benghazi is GOP no2? blurted it's a partisan issue being created for political points, so that takes the edge of in eyes of people and make GOP looks more silly than it already is. But if there is something really solid there, we'll know in couple of days, but it's alot of murky things, it'll get buried in political noise. Presidential pardon would destroy the Hillary campaign.  In any case, Brenie vs Trump will be the most exciting Presidential race since I've started following these (GW Bush campaign 1 onwards).

 

Lys do guide me here if there have been some more good ones, if you know of any good political documentaries, I'd really appreciate it. I really liked a few documentaries on how Bush cheated in California and saw Bill's campaign documentaries. 

 

Would be interseted in seeing some Reagan campaign documentaries, but something more contemporary if there is any, else, i'll take whatever best is available as per your recommendation. Reagan appears to be held in very high stature amongst the GOP followers. Would like to know what the fuss is all about.

 

When Hillary speaks, I doze off, when Bush speaks, I doze off so much that I fall over. It's like they have this software which churns out canned responses.

Let me know where you land, you might have too damn much fun to want to go back. Next year will be full of campaigns, primaries, caucuses, and conventions, so it will be a serious time with politics. Go to Disney World if you can afford the second mortgage it will take to pay for it. Quite an amazing experience.

 

The plan is still in the air, so let's see how it pans out. Would def. let you know. Maybe it gets scrapped and everyone goes to Thailand instead lol.

The truth is that the attack on the Benghazi compound was a planned operation by heavily armed combatants, including mortars and RPG's, intent on killing our people and taking whatever they had there. What they took, and why there was so much CIA presence there, is "classified".
 
Barack Obama and Hillary Clinton came out, right in front of the caskets, and bald-faced lied to everyone... saying it all was "a spontaneous uprising of protesters to an awful internet video we had nothing to do with". 4 Americans died in the siege, including an ambassador, and no one lifted a finger to help them. We will get the truth.
 
Kevin McCarthy was running for Speaker of the House and appeared on Sean Hannity's show. He stuffed his own foot down his throat when he said that Hillary's poll numbers were dropping because of the Benghazi Commission. This gave fuel to Democrats constant bellyaching and lying, that the only reason for the Benghazi hearings, is politics. McCarthy quickly pulled out of his desire to be Speaker, because he no longer had support of the Republicans in the House.

You are smack in the middle of an armed uprising, offcourse some could be more "organized" and "ready" then others, doesn't stop an anrgy mob comming along to aid in the scuffle (or other way around).

The only reason republicans are going in full force of Benghazi is political. No doubt some government agency is also working the case but as with the mail-server malarky, a public hearing in black/white fashion is needed to get out all the personal attacks possible. Both sides are equally guilty of this, god knows howmany time they tried to impeach Bush with just words spoken before 1 factual argument was made.

The thing with Kevin McCarthy was only context. He was really trying to say that no one would have known about Hillary's private server if the Benghazi Committee had not been created, because they discovered it. How it sounded was the committee was created to drive down her poll numbers. None the less it was a political blunder of epic proportions. Not tolerated.

 

I watch historical documentaries like most people drink coffee... and I drink coffee while I watch historical documentaries. Most of them are on everything U.S. History. I'm like a dry sponge for the stuff. I'm really huge with the English Monarchy, anything Roman Empire, World Wars... I love the stuff. I should have been a history teacher, but I didn't realize it until it was too late.

 

Modern politics would bore me to death because I have lived through it. Ronald Reagan's great legacy really revolves around how he managed the world affairs with the Soviet Union, and changing so much without a great war. If you are really coming to the States, The Reagan Library will tell you all you want to know about him. My wife and I went there a few years ago and it's really the best way to form your own opinions. He's buried there too. Hard to believe he was once a Democrat... and a Hollywood actor.

I haven't been to Disney World in 10 years... but my wife and I took our daughter and her boyfriend to Disneyland in California in May. Just admission cost us a cool $600.00 for the 4 of us. There is much, much, more to do in Florida. Walt is rolling in his grave.

Hello my friends, I apologize for my absence, but I was unable to see this congressional grilling for I was on a plane to Hawaii the entire time. Big anniversary trip, and by the time I hit Waikiki I was only able to catch the last hour.

 

The media set the bar so low for Clinton that all she really had to do was sit there, drink water, and not say "What difference does it make?"... and they will all crown her the next President. That's what happened. Nobody cared that even after presented with ironclad evidence, she lied before, lied after, and continues to lie still. When everyone gets over how well she was able sit on her fat ass and not answer direct questions, then they will actually pay attention to how badly she failed us all.

 

On January 15th, Michael Bay will be telling the story of those brave few that did something when no one else would.

Its not the media who set a low bar for her, it was the Republicans who did it. They trailed it as going to be her total destruction, so as long as she survived they didn't meet their own expectations. 

 

They also had no strategy. When 70% of respondents to a poll say that they consider the hearing to be for political purpose, reading out random emails you found on your trawl that are irrelevant to her role as Secretary of State and the matter at hand really does just hand the advantage to the other side. It was a Trumpesque performance if I may say so.

I like Dr. Carson, but I don't think he can win the nomination. He's not a strong enough leader. I will support the one who wins the nomination. Trump will run away with it if they can't convince the Republican voters that electing a successful, popular, and outspoken billionaire that has no interest in politics as usual, that he will destroy the country. I don't believe they can make that case, and the Trump haters will fail absent an act of God.

 

So back to the topic of Hillary... she had a good week because of her supporters, but it will not last long, it never does.

The one piece they showed here did indeed make her seem dodging a question. Not that anyone went after her when she dodged it.

Here is the thing. From the votes side it doesn't matter what happened in the room, its the impression in the media that counted. And far far more people got their information from the media than from the live news feed. Ultimately, the Republicans (including you) said that this would be the end of her....and it wasn't. Therefore it was a major win as it made the party look foolish, the media painted the panel as partisan and silly, and once again Clinton walks away to continue leading the Democractic race. 

 

Therefore, she won.
