To be fair though, the UN is actually pretty useless in its current state. Unless the long-debated UN reform happens (it won't), it will fade into irrelevance. It was designed for a post-WW2 world and it shows.

 

Now that I do agree with, it definitely needs the reform but it's better the U.N. as it is now then to have nothing.

Hello davidrbr, nice to start fresh. I'll take that opportunity. Full disclosure, I have never known anyone named David that wasn't trying to screw me over or steal my wife, so that issue is my responsibility to overcome.

 

The country has always been divided. Getting all 13 colonies to sign on against mother England was not an easy task. In their wisdom, our founders knew they had to set aside certain differences for another day. When that day came, the country was more divided than it could possibly overcome. Republicans and Democrats had their first, and hopefully last, great war to settle those differences. After much death and suffering, the horrible scourge known as "Slavery" was forever banished from the United States.

 

Now after that war, the Democrats as a political party was pretty much destroyed. They didn't have much success until a couple of Republicans by the names of Theodore Roosevelt... who had jumped into bed with a new movement called Progressives and began the practice of bigger government... and Howard Taft, who as President shifted things back to the Republican principle of limited government... well they got into a big fight over the direction of the party, and split the Republican vote. Progressives had jumped ship from Roosevelt, and took over the Democrats when Taft was President. So when there was this split in Republican support... we were all blessed with Woodrow Wilson. And Progressives have been in control of the Democrats ever since.

 

With Progressives came an ever increasing size of Federal Government. It really jumped with Franklin Roosevelt... yes they were related. It jumped big again with Lyndon Johnson, and that was after John Kennedy tried to dial it back... they never got along... a bullet ended that argument. With bigger government comes bigger liability. Richard Nixon could not make it work. There was simply not enough gold to cover the value of all the cash that had to be printed... so he had to take us off the gold standard. Now this cut the cord and created a new, and much easier way for him, to balance budgets... but did nothing to stop the liabilities from continuing the ever increasing path to insolvency. That would be left up to future Presidents, and they all crossed that line. That's where we are today... insolvent. Broke. Bankrupt.

 

We are one careless step from financial ruin... and Progressives will not stop taking. This is the real reason we are divided today. This isn't a global warming scheme to seize control of what powers the planet... this is real. This is why I have never voted for a Democrat, and never will. I love history, and I have learned from it. Everyone should.

I guess you can say that he owned that moment but the U.S. right now is going down hill.

The economy is going bad with each day and he still has the confidence of going up there and saying the economy is going just great when its really not the case.
