I read the Zombie Survival Handbook (at my nephew's insistence) and I am somewhat confident that I would last at least 4 days in a true zombie appocolypse. The thing that would probably destroy me wouldn't be zombies, unless I got injured, but my problem is other people. I could not refuse to help another person, easpecially a child, if I were alone and she needed my help. This would make me easy prey to murderous lowlife, but I don't have it in me to do it.

Now if the situation was slightly different, i.e. I'm responsible for the well-being of others, I do not know whether or not I could turn away the little girl in question. My fear isn't only about deminishing resources, but there could be a Negan (sadistic sociopath) using the kid to get to me and my group. I like to think I'm strong enough to put the good of my people above my sense of guilt, but I don't know if I could.

Oh definitely send the friend. I'm a darned good friend, but family over friendship.

Being that you've only known this friend for two years and your family for your whole life, you choose to send the friend. Quickly shoving him into the room there is an immediate sign of conflict in the room. He shouts for help and your family runs in. While your mother and father run around trying to find your friend you search the wall for a light. You find the light and turn it on only to see a feral zombie is standing in the middle of the room, your friends blood covering his face and his body behind it. Further down the wall is a shelf of both food and a double barrel shotgun. You've never handled a gun before but are afraid to waste any food resources on distracting the zombie. Pick up the shotgun or the food?

What??? Are you suggesting using food as a weapon?

The food would serve as a distraction to deter the zombie away from your family so you can make somewhat of an escape.

Shotguns spray, fairly hard to miss even without proper training or practice. Might fall on your ass though. I'd use the shotgun. You'll need all the food you can save. Only issue would be would the noise attract more zombies?

I'm gonna personally choose the shotgun regardless of the obvious consequence of firing off a shotgun at night in the middle of an Apocalypse.
