It's been a week now, not a puff. I can walk a round and have my cup of tea with friends while they smoke.

 

How I did it: Was going on a road trip, decided to leave the pack behind, a split second decision, just like that, and that's it...done. 

 

- Had a severe headache on the 2nd night, took a pain killer and slept, woke up super fresh next day. 

- You can notice improvements in your breathing within couple days.

- All food tastes so much better now, it's all so vibrant

- Do I get urges to smoke? yes, if there is a trigger, for me, it is stress at work, I resigned anyway, so I'm not stressed. But If I feel a trigger, I just get uo, go drink water over 2 minutes until the urge subsides. 

 

I've been a smoker for ~7 years, For ~5.5 years, it was 3-5 cigs a day, over the last year and half, due to work stress, that kinda went to ~10-12 a day. 

 

tl;dr, there's a switch in your brain, you just flip it, it's all in the head.

I'm happy for you. The health benefits, the amount of cash you'll save smoking near a pack a day, the pride you'll feel knowing you kicked a damn hard habit. Remember that feeling of happiness brother, knowing you didn't cave.

Congrats buddy. Just remember, this is a long term thing and you'll get the cravings for quite some time.

 

I quit 3 and a half years ago. I had smoked for about 16 years, a pack a day on average. One day, due to a number of reasons, I quit, and have not touched a cigarette since.

 

Despite the cravings (particularly during the first 6 months) there eventually comes a day when you have gone too long without one to ever consider having another one again...and when that day comes it's truly over.

 

How long it takes to get to that day depends on the individual (it took me quite a while), but hope you get that day sooner rather than later, brother!

Nice job Shah, I quit in 2003, I smoked since I was 14 and was a 20 a day smoker, but have never looked back since I quit, good luck

I actually did break down after this point once (about a year after my last smoke), and bummed a smoke from a friend at work. It was the nastiest tasting thing I can remember.

I have to say quitting smoking was one of the hardest things I did, but when I finally did it I was so glad I did.  I remember I used to have smoking dreams, I'd wake up and think I had smoked and think, "oh shit, I have to quit again," but then be so relieved it was just a dream.  Pretty soon food will taste better to you and you will find that you are less winded than you used to be.

Some people I know who quit still have cravings even though they quit 10 years ago, others haven't had cravings since 6 months after they quit. So keep it mind it might suck, or it might not; but overall you did the right choice and I am happy for you.
